as someone who uses taboo to reclaim trauma. there's a fine line between taboo and straight up horror. credence crossed it in the first few pages. i have no issues with ***fiction*** about things that are taboo, but there's also a line i personally draw and oh fucking god. no thank you SDFHJKFHDSJK

This actually would’ve made a great horror story about a young woman who has to escape a dangerous cult like situation after getting trapped by these grown ass men who groomed her into a false sense of security while also dealing with themes of childhood trauma and abuse. Like.. the horror themes were RIGHT THERE

Also, I've just finished the entire video and just wanna give you a Super Thanks on how the hell you got through that whole horror show of a "romance book." I hope you continue to do stuff like book reviews on your channel My thoughts are that Kaleb needs to rot under the jail, Jake also needs to be in jail for being inappropriate with a minor, and Noah is just a weirdo. I was hoping that Tiernan run as far away from these sick bastards but i guess we can't have that according to Penelope. Smh. And i thought Colleen Hoover's books were terrible. Overall, that book was cringe but I'm glad you said what needed to be said about that book. This book is not romance, it's disgusting

40:15 They went quiet because they realized what an easy prey she is, easier than they believed she could be. Normally they would probably only try to break her, confuse her until they get what they want, then make it seem as if it is her problem, but because she does not have a feeling of "right", they can freely mess with her head. They realised, they just got a new servant, so they should be more careful as they have more to gain. Also, he is being rude and spoiled, but he is projecting onto her. This is not a normal parent-child relationship (at least not in a modern family, before modern family you were a property of parents (or slave-owner), which was bad). Even if she wouldn't be traumatized, he is still trying to pressure weaker and less experienced kid into S, his words have no meaning, he is just testing which button to push till he can start making her doubt her own judgement, so she is less able to resist his "judgement". It is also a bad tactic in general, one girl was telling me how her schoolmate was knowingly shaming her so she would have bad enough self-image to sleep with him. He is probably also trying to do that, lovebomb, tear her down, then present yourself as her saviour, but if he is good to you, you have to be good to him, feel grateful, it is probably what he would do, if she wouldn't straight out tell him she is already broken, no tearing down is needed.

What's weird is how spot-on the men's names are... > Jake = Short for "Jacob". In Hebrew, this means "Supplanter", and he certainly supplanted Tiernan's parents. > Noah = Always drunk, right? In the Bible, Noah was a vinter whose drunkenness got him into trouble. > Caleb = The animal man. Oddly enough, Caleb means "Dog" in Hebrew.

This book reminds me of one fanfic I read where a rich family adopts an abandoned and traumatised boy and their biological son takes it upon himself to "study psychology" and "heal" his brother's issues, because getting him actual professional help would be too embarassing for their parents as it would get out through the grapevine and would make people talk. His solution? Demand they both move in together when they're barely of age and engaging in a weird and disgusting power-play BDSM dynamic, controlling him and treating him as his "pet". What is more, the "healer" brother describes his brothers nether region as "pink and completely hairless"... I will let you draw your own conclusions from that. The author herself with boast her "knowledge" of psychology, would block anyone who criticised her precious work, and would basically call her critics too weak to handle how she write a dom-sub dynamic. There was no indication in her writing that the scenes described there were extremely wrong and disgusting. You were supposed to root for them, because, well, shipping and hot steamy smut! If you can't handle that - blocked. She was also planning on publishing this thing and... let's just say, some people are delusional. To clarify, I didn't find it disgusting because they were two guys or because of the BDSM dynamics. I found it disgusting and problematic because sex was presented as a solution to trauma + the incestuous and frankly pdf file implications.

As someone who lives in Colorado, can guarantee... this wacky stuff doesn't happen even in the more mountainous regions. The only place I could see this happening would be the more conservative leaning area just south of Denver. It's in between Castle Rock and Colorado Springs and let's just say Colorado Springs is evangelical christian conservative heaven. Or maybe the east more towards Simon where there is nothing but grass and highway for miles and miles until you eventually run into St. Louis or Chicago. I'm not even kidding... that's how empty the Great Plains are. I mean, there's little towns here and there, but none as big as Denver, Chicago or St. Louis. SOOOOO... who knows. I really don't like this hearing this book tbh 🙃

So, I’ve been an ardent reader and occasional writer of fanfiction since middle school, so believe me when I say that I know taboo romance. I’m not a huge “dead dove do not eat” reader, but I’ve scrolled past a whole lot and read enough to know what good and bad treatment of taboo topics looks like. I’ve only recently been getting back to published romance recently after being scared away from the genre a couple years ago, so I’m less familiar with published taboo romance, but let’s be real, wattpad and published novels are overlapping more and more every year. This book is giving off a particular kind of energy that makes me want to run far, far away

I will say, as unhinged and deranged as this book is, I’m very glad it’s marketed as a dark book. It’s not pretending to be romance unlike some very popular romance books that are actually horror. I read trashy romance as a youth because my stepsister collected the paperbacks. It was corny but whatever. Since 50 Shades people have somehow decided garbage writing with twisted characters mixed with shock value equals money and literature has died in its wake. Sure shock value has been in classic books but it’s there to make you uncomfortable or to further a character not just sell books to desensitized degens and hate readers. I put this in the same class as these demented far right “moral values” books that all give off weirdo vibes. I mourn for the trees that gave their lives for these things.

When it comes to straight up erot... you know, I'm gonna censor that word before we make KZfaq even madder, but I expect most people can add an -ica. ANYWAY Amazon has what's commonly known as the 'adult dungeon' policy for erot... that's *too* taboo. Once your book's in the dungeon, Amazon basically stops promoting it. Actual -ncest is a 'straight to the dungeon, we might possibly delete your whole account' foul. So the whole emphasis on step-relationships comes from a former erot... author who's decided to cross over without changing their approach too much.

The beggining of this book sounds like Amy's parents from Gone Girl a bit.

Thank you for suffering and sharing the misery! This is an absolutely horrific book, and never have I been more grateful that my stepparents don’t have kids of their own 🤢

Listen sometimes i do like a little cheesey romance... But this is like over the top fanfiction. First off, how the eff did you fall in love with them? Sure they talked here and there but was there any real bonding? Did i miss something here? Especially since all they've done is hit her, berate her, and treat her like a piece of ass. Now they are all in love like a little incest love nest... As you do. The psych in me makes me think maybe it's because she's effed up but then it's like... No just no none of these people. You should've gone off and got therapy and just wow
