You are so very welcome dear. I'm 70 years young and both my parents are gone. My hubby passed 6 years ago. But you just have to keep on living. Yes coloring and listening to Utube videos on coloring keep me busy and content and not so lonely. Keep your chin up

I loved how you said 70 years young !!! That's the spirit and attitude that's amazing !!!! Loneliness comes in the moments in which one doesn't enjoy his/her own company. Once you learn to completely love your own company you will never ever feel lonely. Meditation helps a lot too. And colouring is a form of mindfulness as well. Keep up the spirit !!! You are doing great !!!

you'll probably not see this since it is January, 2019 but, i started coloring this past summer. I love it. Stopped all my other hobbies because they don't work for me any more ( you can only knit your friends sooooo many pairs of socks before they beg for mercy...)but coloring just fits. I'm 70 also. Coloring and listening to Utube on coloring makes me happy and relaxed. The best to you.

I'm so sorry about your mother. I lost my 52 year old husband two years ago to stage 4 colon cancer. It's heart breaking, but we go on the best we can. We all grieve differently as well. I have gotten into coloring. I'm not great, but I'm not terrible either. I don't care if anyone likes my coloring, I do it for me-it's great therapy for sure. But I am learning here and there from wonderful people like you who do video's for us. So thanks for all you do and thanks for being you. Hugs, Brenda

I have almost every brand of pencil you can think of! I like having the choice of using high end and low end pencils because they all give a different texture and pigment layout. I use my cheapest pencils (dollar general and dollar tree) for burnishing mostly and for me they work great and my crayola pencils I use as much as I use my prisma and my castells! I’ll use them all on one picture sometimes! Coloring is my zin after a stressful day at work! Tfs!

I think the reason the cheaper pencils won't layer well is because they have more filler,. i.e. wax. When you try to layer, you get wax bloom much earlier than the more expensive, higher pigmented brands.. Your Crayola pages are beautiful! I have learned that working with colored pencil requires layers and the time to do them. Basically, you get what you pay for. (my opinion). I am fairly new to your channel and I enjoy your videos very much.

Linda, I agree with you 100%. You can really tell it with the Staedtler pencils, too. I daresay it's almost like using an inexpensive crayon. They're definitely intended for students - not artists. Thank you for your compliment, too! Yeah, I put a lot of time into those, and they were some of the first pages I ever colored. Something else to consider is paper quality. Even my Prismas are hard to use on slick paper because it doesn't hold the pigment well. The pages you saw that I did with Crayola - that was on 67lb vellum bristol cardstock. It really helps! Thank you for watching and subscribing!

Simple Art for Adults Must be karma. You are the third You Tuber that I have heard say they like the Bristol Vellum. I am going to try it. As you know, many coloring books have things to color on both sides of the page, and I don't want to color one side and have bleed through or ghosting ruin the ither side of the page. I copy most of the pages that I color. Then, I also het to choose the paper I want to use and that give me freedom of choice of medium, also. My favorite pencil is the Derwent Inktense and there are very few coloring books that will take even a light touch with water. So thanks ever so much fir the recommendation. I will let you know how I like it! Color on!

That is a really good tip on recording your colors on post-it notes, simple. Several times I've set aside pages "knowing" I would remember the pencils I had just used, only to pick it up later and have to waste time trying to match my previous pencils.

I just found you tonight and this was only my second video to watch. You make so much sense and seem very kind & fun to be around so of course l subscibed. I've colored all my life ( with my kids or grandkids as an excuse) & now with all this adult coloring, etc. l took to it like glue& l finally realized l don't need an excuse to color. Several years before the adult coloring craze my sister sent me a 152 Ct of Crayola crayons & some regular coloring books as kind of a joke. She know how much l love to color & l love the SMELL of new crayons. I load up with them in the fall with all the back to school goodies. Then l discovered this new coloring wave & l went nuts. Nobody l knew had heard of this new thing as l tried to introduce them to it. Finally, they are catching on. I couldn't believe what a stress reliever it was and such a mood lifter. I am 73 years old and l color almost every day. I have chronic depression & it really helps with that, better than medication. I also have a lot of chronic pain from broken back(years ago) & l have diabetic neuropathy, causing severe pain in my feet. All of these things are greatly helped with coloring. I also do a lot of crafts (card making at present) & those things help too, but coloring gives me the best results. They all keep me sane & my husband says l need to step it up! Lol He thinks he's so funny. Anyway, l'm glad l found you and this great thing called coloring!! I'm so sorry about your mother. I still miss mine & it's been 13 1/2 years. I lost a younger sister to breast cancer and she's been gone over 15 years. She was only 52 & was my best friend & it is actually painful to miss her. My mother was 93 so it wasn't so tragic but l still miss her. She was a wonderful mother who taught 5th grade for years. She had 5 of us kids & was always there for us. I'm talking way too long so l'm going to close but l'll be back. I promise not to go on forever. Take care for now. Great Big Hugs...🤗🤗👍✏️✂️❤️❤️❤️

Hi, I don't usually comment on the videos I watch but I thought I would this time on your video. I really enjoyed it you did an awesome job and I know it takes work to compare pencils. I think that crayola is a great pencil to start with that is what I started with years ago as well because it was what I could afford. After watching your videos I tried the prismacolor I just have a small pack and I absolutely love them they blend very nicely and really expand my colors very well. Although I only have a small brand of them I used them alot and enjoy them. Also after speaking with a friend I learned about a different set of pencils that are called shuttle art. They are similar to prismacolor of course they aren't the same but they are pretty close to pigment coverage and blending well together. They are a waxed based pencil. They are very affordable. I don't do videos myself, I'm very shy so I just watch them. I would love to see you do a video of the shuttle art pencils if you ever get them. Your coloring is so beautiful and your very nice and sweet about coloring even on a budget. Best of luck to you with your videos and I will continue to enjoy them. Thanks again for sharing and giving great ideas about adult coloring along with great advice about using budget friendly coloring pencils.

I just received my Crayola 120 count from Amazon and I’m thrilled. Now, I’m waiting for my new 150 space pencil case. I personally don’t like to dig through a box on a can etc. having my pencils lying out in a row is really helpful to me. I have a few diff sets: Marco Reffine, Artist Loft, Prismacolor Scholars, Prismacolor Premiers and now the 120 Crayolas and I always ordered the 12 count Farber Castel Metallics ( which are gorgeous!). I think there is room for lots of pencils, except Staedtler or however you spell it, because I agree. Those pencils were not good. Like, I would rather use Crazy Art or Rose Art!

Staedtler scholar grade pencils are really bad. I bought some when I first started colouring and gave them to a friend's son immediately! I have a set of hard pencils by Giotto. They sharpen to a needle point yet lay down a decent amount of colour. My favourite artist grade pencils are Lyra Polycolur. They are reasonably priced, oil based pencils. I have bought a few Polychromos in colours I don't have.

I get a lot of my coloring books from Ollies Store in the book section. Dirt cheap and I get a lot of my gel pens there. I always keep a check on the clearance isles at Hobby Lobby for the coloring books. Mark downs from $15 to $3.00 heck yeah. I have also ordered from amazon. I am going to look into WISH on line they got art supplies and coloring books dirty cheap. Trust me I don't and can't afford high dollar items. My health has went downhill and doctors are disabling me. I can't afford the ESA animal I would like to have. I pray your mom is okay and take care of you so you can be there for her

My mother passed away early in September. She was at home with her best friend and peaceful. That's the best anyone could ask for her. I'd also suggest Hobby Lobby/Joanne's/Michaels/Office Depot clearance sales. I've gotten some of my best things in those stores for a fraction of the original price. Please be very careful with Wish. Many people have received counterfeit items of very low quality. For instance, someone received Johanna Basford book that was 1/2 the regular size and printed on the equivalent of newsprint. Some of the pencils are put in the more expensive pencil tins, but when you open them, they are very low quality and not what the tin says on the outside. Not saying you can't get good deals from Wish - just please be very careful if you choose to order from that site. I will keep you and your health in my thoughts! Coloring is a wonderful coping mechanism and the community is a great source of happiness, strength, and courage.

Roxanne Wilcox ... I've been ordering items from Wish and their sister site, Geek.com, for a couple of years now and I've had a blast. You can get a LOT for just $5 or $10! All the items are made in China, I believe, and are sold by individual sellers. Unfortunately, they don't combine shipping. I've never had a problem with my credit card or with sellers outright ripping me off. Be careful as with any site - read descriptions and reviews, look at the pics, and use your common sense. (Don't buy their coloring books, they're very small.) This is important as the English is lacking (an understatement!) Some prices are the same or more than on Amazon - probably offered by the same seller. But, a lot of things are dirt cheap and surprisingly well-made. Their Search engine sucks. You'll spend a lot of time just scrolling through page after page. However, that's a good way to discover other items you might be interested in. Remember, every item can be offered for sale by more than one seller. If you find an item you like, go to "Related" and start scrolling thru. You can often find an item at a much cheaper price! Be patient on receiving your items. They take a long time to arrive due to the distance travelled and that they have to go thru US Customs. One of the Best Buy's: Keep an eye out for a coloring glove (don't remember what they call it but it shows up in art supplies, black, only has 2 fingers, made of stretchy material, & very well-made), that you can get for only $1 plus $1 shipping. Order at least 2 for yourself as you're gonna love it! (I HATE trying to color with a piece of paper under my hand.) I've seen what looks like the same glove for $15 elsewhere. Those are my Wish/Geek shopping tips. Have fun. :)

Roxanne, on colored pencils from Wish/Geek... The higher end pencils such as the Marco Raffine and Marco Renoir pencils can now usually be found cheaper on Amazon - always check the prices, tho' as you never know. They're decent pencils, a Chinese brand. The Renoirs are MUCH better than the Raffines. BUT, Prismacolor has come down so far in price, I believe they are now cheaper than the Raffines and if you check often, they are on sale a lot. I've seen the set of 150 on sale on Amazon for just $55! They'll be on sale thru the holidays. Wish/Geek has some surprisingly good cheaper colored pencils. Keep your eye out for some called "Sweet Secrets" - they may not have that name in the title so you'll have to check out the pics. They usually come in a cardboard tube (set of 36 or 48, can't remember), with a pic of a little girl and boy on it. They're surprisingly pigmented for the money. I got some by Colore, I think, but they had more binder than color. If you use water brushes, you can get a set of of their minis (S, M, L; tank is shorter but still holds a lot), for $2 plus $1 shipping. They're not fancy at all but are surprisingly good brushes. I like them better than some of the name brand brushes I've bought elsewhere. Keep the little black stoppers that you have to remove before screwing on the brush part. With the stopper, you can fill the tank with no worries about leaking. They have good prices on lots of different types of gel pens but not on the big sets. They offer refills now, just check the prices on Amazon. I often use some beauty supplies as art supplies, so check those out. You can use eyeshadow like some use pastels for backgrounds and so forth. They have good prices on storage items and empty squeeze bottles, screw top containers, etc. If you do any watercolor, I've bought a collapsible dog's water dish to use for water for my brushes for $1. Be creative. :) I'm there with you on the bad health. I'm housebound and about 95% bed-bound, so I understand. Shopping on Wish/Geek is a good escape for me as maybe you can tell, LOL, and it's also fun to get a package every now and then. :) I've been disappointed in things a few times but most things are pretty decent for the money. If you spend some time shopping, you can buy a lot for very little. I rarely spend more than a dollar or two per item (plus shipping). It has saved me a lot of money and it's fun! Declining/bad health is certainly no fun and we have to do whatever we can to cope and find things to distract us. It's important to keep a good attitude. I wish you well.

My problem with Crayola pencils is they crack and break the first time you try to sharpen them--no matter what sharpener I use. Going to try heating them up as you suggested in a different video and see if that solves this problem. Yeah, I'm not a fan of Steadtler color pencils either. I gave the set I had away.
@2Old2MinceWords
@2Old2MinceWords 6 жыл бұрын
TheFluffyPeacock ... Try a helical blade sharpener- like the old school wall-mounted sharpeners with the funny looking blades. They're a different type of sharpener and handle cutting thru the wood better than anything I've tried. I don't use my Crayolas much but I've never had a problem with them and that may be why. It doesn't matter if the sharpener is a hand crank type (you can get an X-acto brand on Amazon or Walmart for around $7 US), or the electric version (Laneco has one for about $13/14), just as long as it has the helical blade. If you have Prismacolors or plan on getting some you'll need one of these for sure as they stop the Prismas from breaking. Anyway, good luck, hope you get your problem solved.

I had a lot of trouble with the Faber Castell Polychromos and eventually the consensus was that they didn't like the cheaper papers. We still haven't exactly bonded so I would always say buy 8 or 10 first. I do agree with you though although I have to say I use my Prismacolors a lot and I have quite a few brands that cost much more.
@SimpleArtforAdults

Haha. Yeah, I have an easier time with the Polychromos than the Prismas, but they're both a learning curve. It takes time to get used to them, and they're both completely different pencils.
