They're popular because they're inexpensive, stretch well, They're offered in some relatively oddball sizes, they grip for days and they have nice sidewall & tread designs.

Exactly, they look amazing. The only downsides are slightly weak wet performance and they are a bit noisy. At least the NS20's on my MK1 Golf are.

I agree for the most part with this video but anyone looking for a serious track day tire should take a serious look at the Nankang NS2-R and the AR-1. They're more popular in Europe and are almost universally held in high regard as an excellent value for money performance tire. They are also used in motorsport. Check those two models out.

Yup! Nankang AR1 & NS2R are some of the most popular budget-ish semi-slick in Europe. For my car Nankang is the only option in stock size ( both AR1 and NS2R come in ridiculously small 165/50R15 ) They also don't need a lot of heat before working optimally so it's great for me who don't do many back-to-back laps. AR1 tread also looks sexy as hell 🔥

Thanks for the great review of Nankang. After hours of comparison videos I was ready to buy Goodyear Eagle F1 Supersport 235/35 R19 for our Audi S3 (MY15). I had been advised on a service and inspection last week that the left rear was lower tread than the rest and probably only had 5,000 km left in it. I was ready to sacrifice all other tyres on the car and get 4 new ones at a cost of $1,100.00 AUD. I had to check the brand on the front as I new that they were a Chinese brand that had only been added 2 years ago; Nankang. I have never had a problem with these tyres losing traction like quite often happens with the Continental tyres in the rear of an AWD car. I'm now thinking of getting 2 Nankang on the rear only as the fronts still look relatively new with ample tread. These only cost $154 AUD each. Every time someone works on my car they feel the need to comment on the cheap tyres on the front. Tyre shops included. Sure, they sell the brand, and they'll sell anything to anyone, but they don't know how good they actually are. They just see them as a cheap tyre.

I ran a set of half worn nankangs, the texture was actually picture perfect, and razor sharp. The veterans told me that the tires are slippery. To my experience they were gripy at a more excessive angle, like if a typical road tire has a lateral grip angle of 4-6 degrees, it felt as if the set I ran had a grip angle of maybe 8 -10 which to me felt actually more fun and forgiving, because the grip was more aggressive. The tires felt like the car was more responsive overall, just the extra grip at an exponential angle...

I've had Nankang NS-20 225/40 R18 on my car for about a year with harsh driving and am now switching over to the new NS-25. The last winter freeze we had here in Portland was a breeze with the NS-20 tires and they did not slips even once, and that's on a 2012 Scion XB. Meanwhile I'm seeing Subarus and Jeeps stuck all over on the sides of the roads. For the price, they are EXCELLENT tires and with daily driving they work fantastically. Just don't expect them to perform like a $300 tire.

There's this Mk5 Golf GTI in my town with BBS CH wheels on it, the fitment and stance is on point but every time I see the tyres I damn near jizz and I don't know why. I don't know what the brand is because I haven't got a close enough look but there's just something about them that looks right, they're not too beefy, they're not very stretched but they just look like a full on track weapon setup and really completes the look. Care to do a video on this?

Yokohama are one of the best tyre brands in the world. Yokohama produce some excellent tyres. Yokohama are personally my favourite. I might be 2 years late, but if you are on a tighter budget, Nankangs will do the job just fine. They are solid mid range tyres that will last the test of time. If you want to spend more money, Yokohama is the way to go.

Give a slight stretched look but they actually look slightly stretched when they are off the rim. The federal Formosa in the same size is square looking on the same rim.

My little kei car runs on 165/50R15 NS-2R and has more grip than I really need. Quite surprised to see a performance tires offered in such a narrow width. AR1 is also available in the size but I think that is a bit ridiculous, though I do really like the AR1 tread pattern...

I’m looking for opinions on tires to get for my new set of wheels. The specs will be 18x9.5 +30 and I’m looking for either a 225/45 or a 230/40. Looking for a performance tire with good dry and wet handling and I will use my stock wheels in the winter time.

Have purchased several sets if Nankangs for different cars...never an issue with wear, ride comfort or road noise. And should I ever wear them out, at their price point, idk...just swap em out for new ones.

Interesting to see this four years on as they are doing loads of motorsport series now and also you just have to watch KZfaq to know they are giving Toyo, Yokohama and all the other big names a run for their money at a cost point that's really affordable. I've just started a BMW track car and after lots of research it's Nankangs I will be running...

@fitment industries I need help deciding on ns-25 vs sumitomo htr a/s po2. The sumitomo will be $70 dollars more. My commute is 1 mile of dirt road, 15 miles mountain backroads and 5 miles city. I will be mostly driving in dry, wet and sometimes mud in rainy season (wet dirt road) Any advice from you all will be appreciated. Thank you.

Try looking at the Nankang SP-9 Cross Sport tires. I just put 4 of them on my 2015 Lincoln MKC AWD. And they are BY FAR better then the stock OEM Michelin Latitude Tour HP my vehicle came with.

Put NS-25's 245/35 on the back of my 135i. They're cheap and grippy (thumbs up) but flexy (thumbs down) over 35 mph and 60+ requires constant course correction straight line or through curves. Great for drifting lol
@hokiedokie
@hokiedokie 4 жыл бұрын
Damn this is what i hate the most that flexy feel..feels like driving on ice..im going to try the federal evoluzions after reading this for a few more bucks.. they claim stiffer sidewalls

Im in a new development where i was replacing tires on my 545i every week. Not even joking. And the rear tires are a special order no one had them in stock in my area. So i said screw it and ordered 3 rear tires from nankang and ended up loving them. Had great all season traction even light snow. And great tread longevity.

I ran NS-20's in 255/30/18 on my BMW 328. One day I'm merging onto freeway on a soaking wet onramp, ass end slides out and I'm thinking "OK, these are shit tires in the rain" I get home, look at the tires and they're BALD! So then I'm thinking "Well maybe they didn't last long then", I find the receipt and they're just over 3yrs old. They wore perfectly flat and I'd never known they were bald until I slid...unlike when some 20's I'd bought already had Lexani's on them and they were garbage due to sidewall buckling and flatspotting when parked. I've upgraded to the NS-25 since the NS-20 lasted so well (I also needed to go down sidewall size due to rubbing and they didn't have NS20 in the size I needed) and I'm looking into getting them on my X5M as well.

Just tried ns-20s for the first time on my rwd twin turbo. Skeptical at first was emergency as my pirellis had worn pretty bad. After a week they worn in and are really comfortable. They stick and I cannot hear them. Cost me 200aud each fitted 275 40 17. The pirellis were double the price

They holding up well - 10,000 miles on them - road noise is a bit loud - I use them here in New England for the Colder weather but are a great year round choice with plenty of grip in all temp ranges and rain - i would buy them again.

Nankangs are good if you're on a tight budget. I had the NS-25 before when I was on a tight budget and it served me well for 2yrs. Like what he says, "bang for your buck". If you're willing to spend $100 more I'd go with something like Toyo HP Extensa II or similar price range from a better brand.

They are great tires. I have had over 50 cars in my life with all kinds of tires and Nankangs ride and perform better than some of the high priced tires. They turned a stiff bumpy riding car into a soft rider. I am hooked and it's not just the low price.

"The Truth" for a title is a bit misleading and immediately makes you think the company is shit. Which they are not...!!! So I think he should change it to "The History" of whatever brand he is reviewing. So these tire companies can be explained to consumers properly.
