I've always been a big fan of movies that are "so bad that they're good," and most of my all time favorites of this type of film are by a director named HG Lewis. Here is a look at one of his all time classics, The Wizard of Gore (1970)

Actually I saw an interview with the writer and she said she purposely left it ambiguous as to whether Bateman was being a father figure or trying to smash. She said it’s up to the viewer

I don't believe in just labeling a movie "bad" or "good". I think THAT approach to reviewing is simplistic, un-objective, and stupid and usually say's more about he reviewer than about the movie being discussed. Rather, I think a review should cite and emphasize, in fair and equal measure, BOTH a movies defects and assets. Of course, some movies do tilt further on one scale than on the other, sure. But reviews of THIS kind I really don't trust in terms of evaluating a film.

I love Herschell Gordon Lewis. Me and some friends caught up to him to say hello and thanks as he was leaving a convention once, and he just hung out for like two hours. HGL told us about all the projects he had planned, but would sadly never get to do before his death. He's one of the nicest, most genuine people I've ever had the pleasure of meeting.

Vincent Price was the master of this unintended genre. He made some awesome stuff at the end of his career. He said screw it I have to eat and was in some monumental stinkers. But despite how bad it was I watched till the credits rolled. A true master of the craft!

I remember seeing the trailer for this on an old TV special on Netflix. It was called Mad Ron’s Prevues From Hell and it showed a bunch of old grindhouse, horror and exploitation movie trailers. I think it’s still on there if anyone wants to check it out. It’s really cool

I actually have the Something Weird DVD release of this. While _"Just For the Hell Of It"_ (another HG Lewis movie) is one of my favorites, "Wizard of Gore" is entertaining as well. Haven't watched it for quite a while, though -- this reminded me to get it back out now.

DUDE! When I was a kid my babysitter was watching this movie after my sister and I went to bed. I woke up to get a drink, stood behind the couch watching the movie and was honestly shocked by what I saw. I scared the hell out of my babysitter when she saw me out of the corner of her eye. She paused the movie and put me to bed. Ever since then I've been searching for this movie but couldn't properly explain it. Thanks for finally solving this mystery.

Oh hey, Coil sampled this film on "Further" on Stolen and Contaminated Songs! Great album. Requiescat in pace Jhonn and Sleazy... Edit: And now I completely understand why they went with *this* Herschel Lewis film. The ambition on display and how the questionable production values simultaneously undercut the realism and heighten the Surrealism is really impressive.

I adore The Wizard of Gore, it is one of my all time favorite movies. And Herschell is one of the most underappreciated directors in the history of film. I would love to see this continue as a series and I'd recommend some stuff from Andy Milligan for future episodes, like Torture Dungeon, Seeds or The Ghastly Ones.

As a lover of Good Bad Flicks, I'm going to enjoy this. I saw several Hershel G. Lewis movies on TBS back in the day. I was like " Wow this is awful-ly great. I still think You have the BEST facial hair on the web. Thank You for all you do for your drooling minions.

the so bad it’s good is what makes me love mars attacks so much. it’s so hilarious in a good way. it’s script is genuinely funny and takes advantage of the cheesiness of the whole film it’s the prefect movie for me

I'm actually scared of saying this but: The Greasy Strangler. I love it so SO much that I'm actually scared of people discovering it, it feels like a little personal gem. But seriously, it's great

How about a video on Birdemic? It's meant to be a horror movie with an environmental message but it is so bad it's hysterically funny. The dialogue is a particular treat!
