Black Sabbath changed music forever for me at 12 years old . Now 63 I still feel it .

This is their 1st album. Its the album that totally changed my concept of what music could be. Before this there was no dark, brooding sounds like this going on in rock. For me in 1970 it was life changing. Everything doesn't have to be bubble gum, and lollipops to be enjoyable .

Similar scenario here. My older sisters boyfriend at the time gave me a load of old cassettes he didn't want anymore, and this was one of them. I put off listening to it for ages as i was more into Iron Maiden at the time and the album cover just spoke 'doom and gloom'..lol. When i eventually got around to listening to it i was hooked. The album started a bit moody, but once i got to the tracks listed on this video it was on repeat for weeks. Still one of my fave albums of all time... It's a joy to watch this guy discover them too :)

How about this T- they were all 21 or 22 when they made this album! The long extended jam on “Warning” Is because they were given two days in the studio, and were only supposed to record a single and a B side. They laid most of six tracks down in 8 hours(!) and the producer said, “if we can pad out one more longer track, we’ve got an album here, lads”. The record company was actually a bit surprised to be presented with an album, but when they heard it, they rushed it to the pressing plant and released it quickly.
@patrickmohan2220
@patrickmohan2220 2 жыл бұрын
Nonsense. They had a full album ready and recorded it in 8 hours. Warning was a long cover jam, in the fashion of the time, and Rodger Bain never said anything as crass as that. Vertigo were not surprised, and were presented with the full album, and released it on the intended date 13/2/1970. Do your homework poser.

Love your enthusiasm through the reaction! This album and song formed the bedrock of my blues/rock journey when I was about 7. I have loved and performed many styles of music, from classical to jazz to bluegrass to punk and new wave. However, at 56 I still often come back to early Sabbath. Their authenticity and artistry remind me what music is meant to do: stir the imagination and elevate the soul. Thanks for sharing!

That cover said, "Hey, you know how music used to be? Well we got something new you won't believe." Notice the 2 different guitar solos going on simultaneously? Sabbath and many bands did this back then. That was very unique for the time (Freebird is a prime example of this technique).

Love Sabbath, but as musicians...they couldn't carry water for Zeppelin, Cream, or Deep Purple. They simply couldn't. The members of Zeppelin and Sabbath were very tight. Ward wouldn't let Bonzo play his drums because Bonzo would hit them so hard, he'd bust them every time. Fact. Heck, Bonzo was best man at Iommi's wedding! Song for song, album quality, production, musicianship...it's Zeppelin all day long.

Another masterpiece by the creative genius Tony Iommi. Great reaction! Released Friday the 13th, February 1970. Not just more distortion, but also detuning, slow heavy riffs and string bending that no one else can do to this day. Iommi was so creative he started his own genre and subgenres of doom and even thrash. Just about everyone playing anything heavy even today can trace back what they're doing to something he created. He even started out using banjo strings until he was able to get the superlight flex strings he needed manufactured. Even modern great doom bands like Benthic Realm cite Iommi as a major influence. Metallica's James Hetfield cites Iommi as a major influence on his band's sound. Iommi wrote all of Sabbath's music and all lyrics were basically Geezer Butler. The greatest songwriting team ever, in my opinion.

This IS the very first Black Sabbath album. Self titled. What you are listening to is the Birth of Heavy Metal music. When you listen to this album and you keep in mind the time it came out, and what music was sounding like around that time, for a band to come around and make music like this... they were the only ones. They literally invented heavy metal with this album. Hence the dark evil vibe of the opening track. \m/

So good to see someone enjoying these gems from their first album. Warning is an amazing blues/jazz fusion song. This is a song that I like to play for people who would claim to "hate" Sabbath and heavy metal. When I play it they always say "this is really good, who is it"? When I tell them, they don't believe me. Wicked World has that amazing Jazzy intro and great fills along with the harder driving riff and dark lyrics. Classic Sabbath all around!

Perhaps I didn't read far enough down in the comments, but "Warning" is a cover tune! The original song was recorded by (drummer) The Aynsley Dunbar Retaliation and the original lyrics were, "I was WARNED about you, baby, but my feelings were a little bit too strong." (Not "I was born without you baby.") The original song is only approx. 3:30 min long, but Sabbath turned into almost half an album side! It should be called "The Warning Suite."

What a great reaction. First your analysis of the music and personal ranking (I moved up Deep Purple between BS and LZ later in my life) was spot on and very intuitive. Second, your reaction seemed alot like mine in 1971 when I first heard this album in the dorm with my friend, both stoned. After that I used my meager funds and bought their albums and saw them in concert 2 times in the early 70's. Best money I ever spent! I love your reactions and your wife's too.
