I specially agree with Ms D that it's time we look at people individually rather than collectively.

Yup, born and raised in the same state but we come from different regions. Our families made the same dishes, but used different ingredients. Our accents were more distinctive when we were younger lol

It’s a combination of both movies and social media. Like but when I was younger I never had a bad image of African Americans, although there is negative media, I feel like there was a lot of positive media I saw growing up, and it’s possibly because my family showed me positive media, like I remember seeing a lot of comedy, romance, like daddy’s day out, or pursuit of happyness although it shows a poor black American family, it also shows how hard working the family is to make it in America. So I think individuals also need to be hypercritical and not rely on media to tell them facts about life

I think USA people tend to understimate how extremely different people's culture is over Africa, like if it was a country, the same for Europe but that's besides the point. Point is the skin color is just a cover for most people there, not what identifies you, they usually use tribes, language and other types of cultural background to do so, so most actual African people can't relate to Afro American people black vs white past (and present) issues unless they have lived somewhere where there is a white majority. They see each others differently even if their shade of black skin is similar (not usually the case either), they are not a joined community in terms of we are black, black panther is our leader Wakanda forever you know?
@TheDemouchetsREACT
@TheDemouchetsREACT 9 күн бұрын
I'd have to disagree. We are not a monolith in the US just based on skin color. While we share a collective identity, we recognize and appreciate our ethic, regional, and individual differences. It's easy for some of to view the world as it is.

As a Black American Woman of Cape Verdean descent, I AM an AFRICAN descendant of the African Diaspora and therefore I DO NOT IDENTIFY my Identity with the Portuguese who were our Oppressors on the CV Islands, as well as any other White Oppressors who participated in the Slave Trade of the CV Islands and who took ADVANTAGE of those African Slaves, bought and sold there, as well as being Shipped to other parts of the WORLD! I see BRAZILIAN Blacks as being the closest (in My Opinion) to Cape Verdean culture and looks! Of course, we are a Mixed people (Kreole) from Light, Bright and damn near White to the darkest of Ebony Brown Complections Even within our most Recent Familiy DNA! MY family certainly represents that facr beautifully! People of Mixed Races iften, not always, are Confused regarding their blackness or black ancestry because Some of them can gain White Adjacency because of th color, or lack of color, of their skin AND/OR because of the texture or "grade' of their Hair as well as their Facial Features. Or All of the ABOVE. Iam from the first established Cape Verdean Community in the US which is in New England. This city was the Richest city in the World per Capita in the mid 1800s because they wre very successful WHALERs here and Lit that 19th Century World with whale oil lamps. Cape Verdeans wer recruited as workers by the whaling ships in Cape Verde and helped to develop and grow that business and wealth that the rich, white people enjoyed while the Cape Verdeans, Azoreans and even Indigenous Natives of the US barely EAKED out a living for themselves and their families, either here in the US or where else they were recruited. Many, of course, died during those oftentimes 3 year excursions to return with as much whale blubber in their holds to maintain their status. I am 70 years old so in 1954, wgen I was born, my Birth Certificate caregorizes me as 'white'. I am a medium to light Brown woman with wavy, curly hair (once black)! It didnt matter because in 1954 Cape Verde was Colony of Portugal and therefore everyone under their rein was "Portuguese" and NOT to be confused with the Azorean Islanders, who were similar but lighter skinned and called us Cape Verdeans the "N" word! Because if their Adjacency to Whitness, even though lots of CVs fit into that category as well. My grandmother was one of them. Her skin was light and bright, her hair was thin, straight and fine and sh even called some of her own children the "N" word because her husband was a dark skinned man and I gyess sh hoped her children would not inherit his darkness. Surprise. Most of them did and those who were not dark had features and tanned skin which hinted at their descendancy but not conclusively. My grandmother died before my birth but there ar family stiries about her White Adjacency and discrimination and outright Racism toward her own children! Whew! That was a LOT but I thought I'd give as much history and backgrond as possible. CVs live all around the world because they often left their impoverisshed, driught ridden islands in search of wirk to feed, clothe and care for their families. The Smithsonian Musum in DC has an exhibit about CVs and their presenc hre in the US, particularly in my section of New England in MA! N closing Ill say that there are some within the African Diaspora who still think being close to Whiteness is the Way to Go. I understand it but it will never b m r my friends and family. I am a Free Thinker and draw my own conclusions. CVs All over the World, I believe, seem to mired in this dichotomy of RACE and its so sad to know that people are struggling with this as a means if saving themselves the misery if being Black. This was definitely what the first ones to come to this country faced as well as those on the islands of CV! There is a larger population of Kighter CVs in paces like BRAVA becase f the bigger pevakence of Portugese influence upon thos once African people. Hence my thoughts n internalized racism against one's own people as oppsed totheir Real Oppressors! Thanks for reading all this. I KNOW how Verbose I can be My Apologies. Lol!

Portuguese themselves think they white but they have the largest North African ancestry in Europe due to the moors. Look at the soccer players too. Same goes for Spain. Iberians have an inferiority complex. My cousin was in Spain and they called him the N word.

Not to mention players like Ruben Amorim, Christiano Ronaldo, Goncalo Ramos, Nuno Gomes etc… who are fully Portuguese(could have North African ancestry) but could pass for North Africans or Latino. Portuguese and other Iberians just impose their self hate onto others. I’ve been to Portugal and Spain too and a good portion of them pass for Latino/Arab.
