Is the Omega Planet Ocean 43.5mm too big or is it actually the sweet spot and the ultimate hard core dive watch?

Always look forward to your episodes Andy and this was a great journey on the PO. So yeah I was also surprised at how they do seem to “just fit”. This young kid who works at the boutique I was in was as skinny as a rail. Angel hair pasta wrists, but he was rocking that 43.5 ( the black and orange you mentioned). They are all gorgeous watches. And I agree, far better looking than the 300 !

Thank you. I like your style and the type of information you share. That is, your experience and feelings about the watch. I have the black model and I last set it four months ago and it is off three seconds. It will lose a bit while wearing or on a winder (I’m talking 2 seconds in two weeks, but it will gain it back when stored crown up.). So the accuracy is phenomenal. And I have no issue with the size on 7-1/4” wrist. Thanks again.

Great vid! I own the same Omega Planet Ocean in the black on the Blk rubber gator strap and it’s been a favorite in the collection since buying it new in 2017. At first I wasn’t sure about the thickness but certainly has grown on me. The dial is quite fascinating to view and all markets and hands are very legible at any time. I own 10 watches currently, 2 Panerai, 3 Tudors, 2 B&Rs and a few others, but this one gets half of the wear time.

Hi, Andy! I bought the exact same watch in the spring of 2020, special appointments due to covid and all, and love it. I bought it on the bracelet, and like you, have subsequently bought the exact same rubber strap. I wound up damaging the crystal and sent in to Omega requesting a crystal replacement. They repaired it under warranty. I can't speak highly enough about that level of customer service. I planned on paying! On bracelet, it weighs the same as my Deepsea, but it is much more wearable to me. All the weight in the Deepsea is in the watch, but the Omega bracelet is much more substantial, so spreads the weight evenly around the wrist. It's a watch that wears great on bracelet, on the deployant rubber strap, on NATO, I have two NATO straps I wear it on in summer. It is one of the few watches I just have no regrets over. A happy surprise to me after I bought it is was the quick set hour hand, I travel a lot for work and that is such a useful feature. It wasn't even on my radar. I was shopping the SMP 300M and tried the PO and decided it was the one for me. 🙂

What a great, thoughtful review! I've always thought that the Planet Ocean was a far more attractive watch than the Seamaster 300m. Besides the non-tapered, 'blingy' bracelet, and scalloped bezel with a poor grip (as you mention), I really dislike the skeletonized handset on the Seamaster 300m. There's not much room for lume on them, and they just look like a sort of corny party trick to my eyes. I love how the Planet Ocean carries on the tradition of the broad arrow handset (double broad arrow?), which looks stunning. Fantastic review, thanks for sharing!

Excellent no nonsense review, and the most important point is the one that seems to appear in the PO reviews - it wears small for it's size, so do not be put off by 43.5mm. It is also such a great step up over the 300m Seamaster. For a while, I considered the titanium model, but tried on the stainless watch in an Omega boutique, and it wears lightly too.

I bought the black 42mm Planet Ocean in 2008 but handed it over to my father after picking up the orange chronograph one year later. I fell in love with it even before buying the three hand PO but I wasn't sure if its size, weight and color would keep me invested over longer time. Now I am in my 50s and I love it even more than 14 years ago when I bought it.

Great review thanks. I've been through four different wave dial Seamaster 300m's and finally decided I wanted to try the Planet Ocean. I have a wrist smaller than yours, but I'm used to wearing bigger watches - my largest piece is a 43mm Carrera chrono with 16.5mm height. I initially wanted the blue dial version as all my other watches are either black, orange or silver, but finding blue on the grey market within my budget was impossible. I end up picking the Black and Orange version of the PO in 43mm (on rubber), rather than the plain black version. The lug to lug is less than the wavedial Seamaster so I know on that basis it will be fine for me. (Meant to say, I have the old and new Breitling Superocean, the old one is particularly noteworthy with it's 500m rating and a very slim watch considering).

Couldn't agree more. The new 300m is too fussy looking. The older 2254.50 with sword hands and the Speedmaster bracelet is much better looking and thinner. I have both the GMT and Electric Blue versions of that watch and love them both. As to the newer Seamasters, I have the 43.5 PO in black. Great watch and very comfortable on the wrist. I think it's a more adult look than the Bond 300m. You've got to try on the Ploprof. It's also has a short lug to lug and is a great watch. I tried one on in Switzerland and couldn't resist! The You're Terrific KZfaq channel has a great review of the watch.

I have the 43.5mm PO 600m with black ceramic dial and bezel, I love it. I wear it everyday and noticed I was putting some scratches in the bracelet and clasp so to preserve the bracelet I took the bracelet off and replaced it with an Omega black with orange trim rubber dive strap, the same strap as the black one in the video except with orange trim, I think it looks amazing, the black with orange trim compliments the black dial and bezel and the orange Seamaster logo on the dial as well as the orange tip of the seconds hand, the rubber strap also makes the watch a lot lighter feeling to wear.

Great video as always. I do like a good dive watch and the Omega PO was a new one to me (only really looked at the Seamaster 300 before) & i like it. At the moment my daily driver is a Sinn UX (EZM 2B), which i recommend a look at. The UX is perfect for everyday as its a high precision temperature-stabilised quartz movement (might lose a second a month), 44mm case and only 13.3 mm thick which is mad as its 5000m WR. Keep up the great work 👍🏻

Great review thanks, I had the black & orange in late 2019 certainly not a young man’s watch as your sales guy explained as I had it for my 50th ! I had it with the stainless which is great but I also got the black/orange strap & clasp (genuine I don’t do fake or aftermarket) free of charge £450 worth ! I use the rubber strap mainly as it doesn’t mark like the stainless can do, just tiny marks but it bothers me. The black/orange rubber strap is super comfortable & also less sweaty than the stainless strap in hot weather. I like all the PO finishes but had to be the black/orange for me it stands out beautifully. I love the black ceramic chronograph too but I did see one on eBay at a very cheap price as the corner where the spring bar is located had chipped off so for an expensive watch the ceramics have put me off so stick with the steel case. Thanks again for your review & your love for the PO, an amazing piece of engineering !

Well said, awesome watch. A bargain and totally under appreciated. Orange bezel is my favourite. Generally, I prefer smaller (36-39mm) watches, but when I went for the PO, I went 43mm (The 39 looked too small). It wears so much smaller, with its short lugs and dial proportion. The thickness disappears on the wrist and is completely fine. I think it wears smaller than my 41mm Sub - let alone the SD43 (and it has better QC than my Sub). , I'd say the 39 is for people who like very small watches or have small wrists and for women. And women looking at 36/38mm divers should really look at the 39 PO - a totally manageable choice for a female friendly pro diver. A very nice watch with outstanding quality and who knew, a dive extension and quick adjust that actually goes over a wetsuit.

Nice watch. So lately I've been getting into smaller watches like the trend is going. I have Seiko speedtimer 39mm. I have a 7 inch wrist, and wears very well. I just came back from the Omega boutique, and the 39.5 wears like a woman's watch. Like i said, my Seiko is 39mm, and looks great on my wrist. I thought it would be a great fit, but the 43.5 was better. That seems to be the consensus with people who have actually tried on these watches, or own them. These watches(excluding thickness) wear much smaller than listed specs. Great watch

Agree with everything you say. I also don’t like the 300m and agree the only real dive watches are the Pelagos (owned and sold 3), Planet Ocean and Sea Dweller. I also had the 43.5 in blue and only wore it on a rubber strap. Same as Deep Black strap but blue. Don’t sell it anymore. Was a great watch. I now have the Sea Dweller 43 and a Sky Dweller, which are my perfect pieces, but want to add a Planet Ocean to my collection again. And we agree again as I’m likely going to get the all black Deep Black. Wears so well (I have a 7.75 inch wrist), incredibly comfortable, love the strap, ceramic case, transparent case back which I miss having Rolexes.

Hey Andy, great review as always. I’m really in love with this watch and i’m planning on buying it. A blue dial version just like yours. The only thing I’m worried about is the thickness. And above that i think it will be replaced soon. And if it’s being replaced for an even thick version it’s no problem for me but when the newer version has a thickness of around 14-14,5 mm that would be a bummer. Because i think that’s the only thing that’s “wrong” about this watch. But nevertheless i’m going to buy it. It just tickes all the right boxes for me (exept from the thickness). Greetings from the Netherlands.

@@TheEnglishWatch hey Andy, Thanks for your reaction. But I’m afraid i’m misunderstood. I meant to say that whats “wrong” with the PO is the thickness (too thick) so I hope that New one is not so thick as this one. The PO, in my opinion, is a perfect diver when it has a thickness of around 14 to 14,5 mm. So when I buy one now, it will be a bummer of the new one is not so thick as this one because then i will feel bad for not waiting for the newer PO. But apart from that I really am in love with this watch. Sorry for being misunderstood, but I’m not a native english speaker. Greetings.

Great review. I have the same spec P.O in blue also, however on the rubber/leather strap. I was thinking of buying the bracelet for my P,O What would you say is the most comfortable. I have a zenith el primero stratos blashford on bracelet which is comfortable also my first dive watch oris aquis small second on bracelet which weighed 276g so bought a rubber strap for lightness and just looked better in my opinion Would appreciate some feedback from anyone who could help. Thank you

I don’t have experience with the other watches you mention, but if m sure every Omega AD out there has a PO on bracelet you could try. Personally I think it’s comfortable.

Agreed they are better looking than the other dive variants. If I was after a chunky monkey I’d go SD43. I was offered a two tone one but I think they look a bit Frankenstein like a two tone DJ mated with a Submariner or some such. Also they are very head heavy. The James Cameron even more so. And there lies the rub with larger dive watches they are just uncomfortable to wear and clatter off every door frame in the house and out and about like wearing a tuna can on your wrist unless you are very very careful.

Hah. Just realised I was in standard Rolex mode. Actually ADs seem to have planet oceans just sat there and sat there as other Omega models take the limelight. I’m sure you could come on strong for a 20% discount especially at today’s super inflated prices. With Omegas aggressive ten percent year on year price increases outdoing even Rolex these watches will gather ever thicker layers of dust at ADs. Once they get up to ten grand they won’t be able to sell any of them and ads will start closing. 2023 plus they will feel the pinch.

I think it wears it thickness well, unlike the slap sided Tudor Just wish they would make a no date version and keep that 3

More likely to get a date at 6 as per their other watches. Get the 3, lose the 6. I’m with you though, the Ultra Deeps look fab dateless apart from the size.

Love this watch and I'm hoping that this model will be my next watch (& potentially last if you listen to my wife) but looking at the orange rubber inserts on the dial and orange 6, 9 and 12. I'd love them to offer a second strap as I will probably end up buying the orange and black rubber strap available on some models but whether I can get one from the dealers, one can only ask. Nice, considered and honest video, worthy of a follow.

You should be able to get a discount and a strap thrown in. The strap and clasp combo is worth around £500 and well worth having. Goldsmiths told me they can go to 10%, but a good Indy should be a little better.

Worth a shot. I assume they are supplying grey / preowned, so the price should be pretty keen leaving you a bit over to source a strap 👍. For info, they have about 30% markup on straps, so ask for a bit off also. You can phone Omega directly to get a quote.

Yeh the Omega is a nice watch had the orange one many years ago, is it as good as a Rolex deep sea? Buy what you like. I preferred the SD over the Planet Ocean. Omega seem (to me) top heavy with the straps be too narrow.

I like the PO, but I prefer the original design. I liked the metal inner ring on the bezel. The orange bezel variant was the best imo. They were also thinner then too. I feel omega have gone down the rolex route of steadily increasing their prices , and tudor are now filling that gap. I remember when they were 2.5k , and now 6k , which is a lot of money for a steel dive watch.

martin, i have that orange bezel 42mm 2500 PO and i agree with you 100%. if i wated one of these shinier PO models, I think i would try to get one of the liquid metal limited edition 42mm models.

Sir, I am considering getting the model with the orange rubber insert in it. Have you heard any bad feedback on that orange insert that is rubber. Is there a chance of a cracking with age and possibly falling out? Thank you.

Great video, thank you! I will buy the Planet Ocean now for my wife and myself. I had doubts about the color (black or blue) but I now decided for the blue one and it fits very well with an Omega watch. One question; the smallest example is 39,5 mm? Dot you think this will be suitable for a lady? Thank you! Pascal, the Netherlands.

I not watched it yet , but i own a older model PO . Is the watch too big ? It depends on your wrist , on a 16cm , yes probably . On a 18cm and bigger , it fits perfect . I bought a SMP this y , wanting to go for a Moonwatch and nope , Moonwatch too little for my wrist and i am really sad about it , but it just is what it is .
