In this video, I make the mortise/tenon joints and taper the legs.

I am making a simple writing desk for my son's birthday. He doesn't really need one, but I promised my daughter I'd make her a vanity table/desk for her birthday, so that meant my son would have to have one, too. (FYI, the project was completed a little while ago, so it's already on my Instagram, see below)
As usual, this is a 100% hand tools project, not even a battery powered drill.
This will be a series, but not an extensive one. In this first part, I rough cut the main case components: the 4 legs and 3 main rails.
If there is interest, I'll make some sketchup plans, but in reality, it's not very necessary.

Nice work tapering the legs. For my writing desk, I am debating on making a tapering jig for my table saw, but you convinced me to try my no. 5 1/2 plane instead.

I read somewhere the rule of thumb for tenon's is 1/3 the thickness of the material, so a 1/4 inch probably would have been fine. I made a desk similar to this about a year ago and used 1/4 inch tenon's. Recently, when moving the desk as we were getting new flooring I ran a leg into a wall on accident and it split the leg but the tenon was still intact. Thankfully an easy split to reglue!

That’s a strong tenon! I had heard the 1/3 rule and thought maybe I could stretch it here because of the leg thickness being 1.5”, so effectively 1/3 of the leg. Well... I guess I’ll say that it wasn’t the best! Now that I think about it, the larger or thicker the stock, maybe this rule isn’t so applicable. Anyway, won’t do it this way again!

Looks like your intersecting mortises turned out fine. Another way of dealing with this is to cut a piece of scrap to fill the first mortise while cutting the second.

@@athmostafa2462 Best practice is to chamfer both of the tenons.
