Building a Brick Cooker in my Garden. The food tastes AMAZING! #4

The Last Homely Garden

The Last Homely Garden

10 ай бұрын

I've finally been able to finish this video! Anthony White, my neighbour and friend built the Brick Cooker a few weeks ago, but the rain here has been relentless, and I have been away for my other channel The Last Homely House so finally, yesterday, I was able to go round the garden pick all the vegetables that were ready and make an amazing plate of food! The potatoes are a variety called Pink Fir Apple, the beetroot are that old favourite Bolthardy. I picked broad beans, onion, courgette, lettuce, plum tomato, cucumber, flat leaved parsley, basil, mint, and thyme. The lemon and the garlic were not my own, nor the seasoning, but most of my food was home grown! I have some chilli growing in the polytunnel, so next time I'll use that!
It was so much fun! I just hope the weather continues to be warm so I can cook again and again!
Thank you for watching! If you are interested in the full version of the first time I used the cooker, when I could barely see for wood smoke, then visit Patreon on Friday at 5.00 pm BST. I thought my patrons would enjoy a good chuckle at my expense for that Behind The Scenes honest first attempt!
/ thelasthomelyhouse
I post these videos when I have something to say about the garden and when time allows, so, not to a regular schedule. It's a good idea to click the notifications bell when you subscribe so you don't miss these random postings!
Thank you to Owen Jackson for the drone shots!
And thank you for your support here! I hope you enjoy the music too. It is from Epidemic Sound and is called in the order you'll hear it ...

Take care
Happy Gardening!

I think growing potatoes is one of gardners great pleasures in life. I also love watching other gardners growing beautiful vegetables like yours. I love baking my beetroot the same way, then once cooked and cooled a little I cut into wedges, olive oil & pepper then put them in a flat bread with rocked, walnuts and goats cheese (or nutritional yeast for vegans). Watching your videos gives me impetuous I need to get back into the garden despite the summer heat. I love your outdoor kitchen.

What a lovely video from creation to completion to culinary triumph. This will be a wonderful fulfilment of the beauty and abundance of your garden, bringing it all together outdoors. Now you just need a little roof to shelter your stove from rain, with a rain barrel attached, so you can cook in all weather, and you can do the washing up outside as well!

Love the drone shot. The garden looks so neat and tidy. I'm pretty new too the last homely house and garden, but have watched so much. As a widow living alone, I so appreciate what you do and how you keep busy. I am also a maker (Jack of all trades Master of some). My activity is very different here in Florida. Stay outside as much as I can to avoid the news. Politics is not my thing. Wish I were able to find helpers like you have. At 86 there are a lot of things I can't do alone. Hang in there and carry on. Barbara

If you attend church don't be shy about asking your church family to help you. My dad mowed the lawn of a lady who could no longer do so for many years & both she & my dad enjoyed the mutual company. My mother had her over for Christmas, Easter & other holidays and we kids got to hear a lot of interesting tales about Oklahoma before statehood ..."cowboys & Indians" & all that.

I just returned from a camping trip with friends, and most of the cooking was done over the campfire - including a lovely dessert of canned fruit slices (peaches, pears, and mangos) sauted in butter, drizzled with maple syrup, and served hot over a bit of vanilla pudding before being topped with whipped cream. You can get very fancy with cooking over a simple fire, can't you!

Hi Kate. Your garden looks amazing. The fun thing is, I've watched the building of a brick oven a few days ago, but I must say yours looks way better and more beautiful. Nice job, Anthony. That looked so tasteful. I use a trick on the broad beans when they are a little too tough. You can what I call "double peel" them. The thin layer of the bean can easily be removed, and the beans will taste so much better. Enjoy your lovely oven/grill. ❤❤❤❤xxxx

Your beets brought back such a pleasant memory growing up in Iowa and eating out of my grandmother’s garden. My favorite were beet greens. She would clip some when they were young and tender. We cooked them and ate them with butter and a dash of vinegar. Just delicious! Wish I could grow these in SC. Too hot, clay soil, and TOO MANY deer and rabbits.
