Hi Allyn! I have about 25,000 sq ft of grass to mow. In the very front of the house I use my Toro Hand Mower around tight spots with the curbing. We did purchase a 2019 Gravely ZT HD 48 last Sept. A Landscaper told me to go real slow on my turns. The exhaust is on top. I won't let my Husband mow. It is the best mower on this planet!! The only thing I have to learn is use the Weedwacker and Edging so that my Husband can take one of the boats and go Fishing! Finally got my cordless EGO Blower & I love this. Your lawn looks super as I have been watching you for a long time. Thanks for sharing! Big Hugs from Northern Idaho!!

Your "How to choose a mower" video was a huge help for me. I have an Ego mower (trimmer, edger, blower and snowblower, too), and it did pretty well, but it wasn't quite the result I was hoping for. I had to overlap a lot, and even then I still would get a lot of mowhawk areas in the lawn, and even with the high lift blade it left a lot behind when I'd mulch. I felt we needed something a bit more, so I bought a Toro Timemaster. I've had it for 3 weeks now and love it. I go wheel on wheel when cutting, rarely have a blade that isn't cut, and the difference in how the lawn looks is amazing. It also cut my mowing time in half (or more due to how much I had to overlap previously). I'm not saying the Ego is a bad mower - quite the contrary, I just don't think my yard (very uneven) and mowing style was a good fit. I still have the Ego mower and use it in some areas of my yard, and still enjoy using it. Thank you for the "How to choose a mower" video - it was a tremendous help.

We have an old (like 2006 area) Exmark Lazer Z with a 62” deck at work (building and grounds for a school) it is our primary mower and don’t have any issues burning grass. The exhaust on all of our mowers (the Exmark, a Ventrac 4500 for the embankments, and a Walker with the grass collector for around the building) all blow out the side of the mowers not down.

I have had a couple mowers that did the same thing with the exhaust, and would burn the grass when I got off of them to open my gate to the back yard. I went to the big box store and purchased some sheet metal and then fashioned a heat/exhaust deflector below the muffler and then painted it with black bbq paint for a finished look.

My Toro MX 5075 has the same problem; as in burning the lawn from the hot exhaust if I sit in one place too long. So I have learned to keep moving. The higher grade Timecutter HD and Titans have an exhaust that is directed off the back, and not down on the turf. Otherwise, I love it. The other issue is that it is so much fun to use that I often double cut, and thus the gas consumption goes up. The My Ride system is super comfortable, and the quality of cut is great.

Hey Allyn! I have the 2020 TimeCutter 50" model with the Kawasaki engine, and it also burns the grass if you sit in one spot for a little bit. My previous mower was a 2018 TimeCutter 50" with the Toro engine, and it did NOT do this. Must be something they changed for the new models?

Awesome! Always wondered when you would grt a zero turn for the aug, as a lawn care owner I have a 42” John Deere z335e I believe it was 2600 and I have put over 280 hrs on it. Still leaves a great cut and never had a problem. But when I cut st aug with it, it’s probably the most satisfying thing to cut. Push mowing it doesn’t get that same satisfaction.

I have a Timecutter 4225 that is a couple years old. I also get those burn spots if I sit for too long. I let my son mow this Spring for the first time. That of course led to long pauses in the yard given instructions and 3 days later I had burns all over my lawn. I had actually even sent you pics via Twitter I think. But I figured it all out after I remembered that he had mowed. I usually get a couple spots throughout the year, but this was real bad. I now make as many turns as I can on pavement and haul more ass when mowing so not to stop. I think it is a design flaw with those Toro's.

my sapper zero turn also blows exhaust downwards, although not straight down but at an angle. I actually put a little piece of flex pipe on mine that blows it upwards. just used a little self tapper to hold it on. Before that, i just idled it way down, gave me a few more seconds if i needed to hop off for a minute.

My Question is when you want to go back n forth when you mow instead of in a box the whole time and you have lots of obstacles is the Zero Turn worth it over the "Regular" riding mower when on average for the 42" models the Zero Turn is $800 more. I have an old rear engine Toro rider and need to get something new as its pretty tired out and parts are getting hard to find, I find myself with worn out arms between all the turning I have to do on the steering wheel by the end, my detached garage is at an angle behind our house and we have lots of trees soo I'm constantly turning

I have the same mower in 50”. First time I mowed I had burn marks all over the yard. Toro said it’s because my grass is too short (4”) and heat stressed. I could tack on a heat deflector but it would probably interfere with the bagger I’m thinking of getting. Spending this much on a mower I would expect things like this to be figured out ahead of time. Other than that I’m happy with the way it rides and cuts.

Nice work man. As to your question about the exhaust, no I run ZTs all day and haven't noticed that issue. Most of ours point straight out the side or back. I have accidentally set a hay bale on fire at our farm before though when i got too close to it with one of my old mowers 😬 Another tip would be to pull your throttle to idle for starting and turning off the engine, I know they say to turn it off at full blast on some of those smaller ones but you can end up developing engine issues eventually as a result.

this is a tough question, one of those 'ask 3 people and you'll get 6 different answers'. If you have a smooth lawn and don't have any hidden rocks or bare roots, razor sharp is fine. Only downside to a razor sharp blade is that almost any knick will take a chunk out or crack it. That's why 'butter knife sharp' is a pretty common sharpness. You'll get a good cut with little risk of cracking or chipping the blade(s).

You’ll really notice the quality of the cut improving when you step up to a twin blade commercial mower. The faster the blade turns, the better quAlity of cut. I just purchased a Ferris Fw15 walk behind with 32” cut. Great quality of cut and it stripes very well also. If you really love to mow and want a exceptional cut, it’s well worth the money to purchase a commercial mower.

I DEFINITELY have burn issues when I idle. I also have a Timecutter, from 2018 which isn’t the my ride. It’s a design flaw. There’s not many on this mower, but it’s one of them. The other is the oil drain hose. The end slips into a fragile plastic engine shroud. You have to be VERY careful getting it off or else you’ll need to get a new shroud cover cause it’ll break the plastic nipple clean off. With all that said, I love this mower. It makes mowing fun and fast (when it needs to be). It cuts cleanly at any speed, as you say.

Ive always ran 60" exmark commercial mowers. All of them have the exaust pointed to one of the sides, ive never had problems with the exaust burning the grass. However I did have that problem with some hedge trimmers a while back. I have some now that discharge sideways. I do beleive it is a design flaw in the mower, however it seems like an easy fix with a 90 degree elbow for steel water pipe. Or just turn it off when is stationary, you cant enjoy the mow if you just sit around the whole time. 😆

Also, if you want to get better stripes, after cutting the grass, drop the deck to about the lowest setting WITHOUT turning the blades on and redo your passes. Tire marks will disappear and lines will be more vibrant.

I have an Ariens zero turn and it exhausts out the back. I’m surprised Toro didn’t install a heat shield if they weren’t got to pipe the exhaust a different direction.

I've got almost an acre of irrigated floratam in houston area, some of the hardest variety of st Augustine I've found to mulch when growing season is on superb awesome variety but man it can be a challenge to mulch if it's over 5" im using a 721 front deck grasshopper mower w medium lift blade and complete mulch kit, do you guys see much of grasshopper out that way. they've got some of the best deck-airflow technology ive seen on their true closed chamber mulch kits.

It is the construction of the Toro, there are brands that have a higher exhaust construction or the exhaust in a different place. And you have to mow your lawn long, that makes sense to.

I had a mx5075 with myride. I bought it after selling a ferris is700z 52". I traded the toro in for another ferris is700z 60" with a suspension seat and certainly can tell a huge difference. Not sure its a terribly fair comparison due to the ferris being about twice as expensive, but my goodness it's way more enjoyable. My yard is terrible bumpy, the toro was very comfortable riding on it, however it was tough to keep a straight line with how bumpy my yard is, with out going turtle slow. On my ferris, i can go way faster due to the shocks.

Yes, the burning in the grass is from the exhaust. It depends on the make of the mower and where the exhaust is but I had the same thing on my John Deere x310. The exhaust was pointed down in the front towards the grass and would burn the lawn when staying in one spot.

Oh great, here's Hane parading around "I got da 1st Time Cutter in the U S of A over by dare!" That's a small notch above people claiming "First!" On a YouChoob video. All seriousness, that's pretty cool you can claim the 1st one.

Muffler burning is more common than you think. I've got a Hustler with a Kohler and it doesn't burn, but the same exact model also comes with a Kaw engine that burns. Then again, I don't stop much... with 6 acres I don't have time to stop.

You should be doing a perimeter pass first, riding the edge with your left side bc you have 1-2" of overhang. That gives you the clean edge. Love my Timecutter
