Hello Hanna. Naturally, when you speak of XTC you have my full attention. I immediately noticed the Big Express behind you, front and center. I was living in Montana when Mummer and The Big Express were released and it seemed like I was the only person in town who was a fan. I loved both of those albums because the band explored new terrain for them. So unique. The cd versions have extra tracks which are brilliant and worth checking out. I am just beginning to explore Juliana Hatfield and Sad Lovers and Giants and like what I hear so far. Off topic, but I was wondering if you've seen the KZfaq channel, In Depth Music? Found them a couple of months back. They feature a lot of the more obscure music, primarily of the genres that you love. From the late 70s and 80s up to the present time. Much of it from overseas. I worked in record stores throughout the 80s and am discovering just how much music never made it to the American market. They have full albums, EP's and songs. They have become a great resource for me. Really looking forward to your best albums of the year video! Unexplored territory for me. Thanks as always and take it easy on that Jazz!

Hey there, Todd! Love your comments as always and you're one of my most loyal viewers, and I so appreciate your presence. You must have been the coolest person in your town with that love for XTC! I'll check out In Depth Music. Thanks for the channel recommendation! Glad you are exploring Sad Lovers & Giants and Juliana Hatfield! Expect to see some more jazz filtering in my channel for some upcoming vinyl finds videos but jazz will never overtake my love for what I usually show here! I'll be prepping for that favorite albums of 2022 video soon! Happy holidays!

The wonderful lady is back in our living rooms. Carambolage was a band associated with "Ton, Steine, Scherben". Some members of Carambolage were in a relationship with the musicians from "Ton, Steine, Scherben". "Ton, Steine, Scherben" was a very interesting left-wing political band with one of the best German singer-songwriters of his time. His name was Rio Reiser. He wrote working class songs, love songs, great ballads or good pop music with intelligent lyrics (e.g. "König von Deutschland"). "The Chameleons" are a great band. Sometimes they remind me of Adrian Borland's "The Sound".

You gotta get the EPs by Ride. Those songs are incredible, especially Grasshopper. Unfortunately I bought the expanded editions on iTunes before I knew these 3 albums were being reissued. The band says these will be the definitive versions so I’ll probably break down soon. Merry Christmas!! PS-no Amanita :(

Hey J J! Apparently Amanita by Bardo Pond was released in November 2021, so that's why I didn't include it here. I want to show it in an upcoming finds video as I don't think I've shown it on my channel yet! My copy is crackly but I'll run it through the Record Doctor again! I guess I've held off on the Ride EPs release for now because I have a promo 12" copy of Today Forever already. The others are essential, though. I'll be getting it in due time! Merry Christmas!

Hello again, Hanna! Don't forget Kim Simmonds, the man who started and stuck with Savoy Brown to the end, passed away on December 13th. ... I can't remember the last time I bought a vinyl reish (way too expensive) but I find and purchase many CD reissues out there in the wild because they are always cheap in price and usually have extra non-vinyl tracks. I haven't fallen into the jazz rabbit hole but do purchase artits such as Tomita & Kitaro to get me into what you call the "Zen" mode - I just recently found a near mint copy of the quad version of Tomita's "Snowflakes Are Dancing" classic at the local Goodwill for $2.99. I don't have a quad system or 4 speakers but the mixes are different and more vibrant than on my stereo copy! Speaking of Walmart (ugh!), the last "reish" I purchased came from there - The Beatles "White Album" Anniversary 4-LP box-set with the Esher demos for $49.97. Absolutely stunning! They had many other reissues but none were really that unusual or interesting for the prices wanted. ...Have a Merry Christmas and a happy New Year!

Hi Bill! Yeah, some vinyl reissues can be incredibly expensive. Luckily many of these I got at my local record store with store credit from a massive pile of LPs I traded in earlier this year. I haven't heard of Tomita & Kitaro. Will do some investigating. I appreciate the comment, and Merry Christmas!

Hello Again Hanna - Both Home from 1994 & Laugh from 1997 are excellent solo records from Terry Hall. His track with Tricky Poems in 1996 is really awesome as well from the Nearly God project. What a great talent he was. I really like both The Chameleons & Associates reissues. The track No on Sulk is an all time favorite of mine Billy with the gift of a golden voice. Enjoy The Big Express by XTC .. Wake Up is an epic opening track. See Ya in 2023 ✌️

Shoegaze is the area of my collection that watching your videos has most prompted me to delve into and reassess. By the end of the 80s I was more interested in Techno and House. Even though I bought plenty of Shoegaze records they didn`t get played much. Perhaps a surfeit of Indie guitar music over the previous decade had dulled the senses. New bands became an indistinguishable blur. In retrospect, things like the early Ride releases are far better than I realized at the time. On the subject of XTC - last heard Andy Partridge on a BBC Radio 4 doc about Judee Sill. He`s a huge fan.

Greetings! I'm glad you have enjoyed my focus on shoegaze throughout the years. I have been meaning to do an update of some kind or maybe a ranking of my favorite shoegaze albums or bands in 2023. I will be featuring at least 2 shoegaze releases from this year in my next video. Classic shoegaze is still my preference, though! What a time of creativity. That BBC doc on Judee Sill sounds interesting. Very cool that Andy Partridge took part in that. See you next time!

I saw someone post on Facebook those Ride albums. I had to get "Nowhere" and "Going Blank Again" . They arrived from UK in perfect shape. I picked up a Slowdive reissue this year that was a few years old by now. If only Lush and Catherine Wheel would re-release stuff, I'd be in Shoegaze heaven. That Heartbreakers is a classic. I did not know it was repressed.

Hey there! My Going Blank Again on the wall is a reissue, but not from this year. I got it a few years ago. I still need to grab the early EPs release! That Wichita label is doing a great job! I love that "newest" Slowdive LP from a few years ago. They have been working on a new one. Yes, I'd love the entire Lush catalog to be reissued. That would make my 2023! I was able to pick up the MOV reissues of the first 2 Catherine Wheel LPs a year or two ago. And I hope you can find this particular reissue of the Heartbreakers' LAMF! Yeah! You steal my heart with XTC and The Chameleons! My two favorite bands not named The Beatles. Also, your shout outs to Boston with The Lemonheads and Blake Babies (and your love of Ms. Hatfield). You would have loved the music scene here from the early 80's to mid 90's; bands like Dumptruck, Big Dipper, O Positive, Cavedogs, Tribe (I could go on and on ...). Unfortunetely I was too young to go see any of those bands but the local college stations were all over it. Happy Holidays, Hanna!

Off the top of my head, i can only think of 4 records i've bought. I need to check how many more there are since there probably is more. Merry Christmas Hanna! Pasi

Very cool video with some cool pickups. I picked up all of the Ride reissues, including: Nowhere, Going Blank Again & 4 EP'S. I previously owned copies of the original Creation Records pressings of Nowhere + the early EP'S (RIDE, Fall, Play & Today Forever). Sadly these got thrown out when CD's hit the market in the UK. I was a bit sad about that as they are worth a decent amount these days, but from what I've heard these pressings sound pretty faithful to the original presdings. The 4 EP'S is definitely worth getting as Ride did put it out an album called Smile, but that only collected selected tracks from the early EP'S, in comparison to this repressing that contains everything. 😀

I forgot how great The Lemonheads album was, one of the most impressive sounding reissues I got this year along with Six Pence None The Richer- This Beautiful Mess(2021 reissue). I just got the Juliana Hatfield Three(yellow vinyl) reissue yesterday and it sounds pretty good. The Alice In Chains reissues the last couple years have sounded amazing. Thanks again for this great review Hannah. Hopefully not too cold there in Omaha🥶If I think of Omaha, I think of the snowy plains of the Coon bros movie Fargo, but I may be geographically incorrect. Or was it in the series Better call Saul? The Gun club is certainly among my old time favorites too. Have you tried Dead Moon yet? Although quite different sounding, they were kinda peers of the Gun Club among favorite underground artists in the Netherlands in the 1980s-90s. The whole XTC discography is Great to my ears. “Dear God” deserves new airplay in these times, or perhaps a revival like Kate Bush’s “Running up that hill”. Wishing you a Merry Christmas and great music filled 2023.🌟🎶

I recently got in an album from the UK, now album. Two songs were scuffed so it ticked on each rotation. They said no problem send it back and we will send another one. I just got in the next copy. The shrink wrap was so tight it gave the record a slight warp. It plays but so disappointed. I missed that Lemonheads reissue, I bought that when it came out, my favorite. RSD Heartbreaker album was great, fantastic sound. I got into Jazz when I was in my late 30s thanks to a jazz musician introducing me to Miles Davis. I was hooked. Merry Christmas Hanna. Hi Steve! Sorry for the delay! Yeah, quality is lacking on a lot of these new pressings. It's such a shame. What a hassle to have to bring it to the company's attention. Sometimes I do that and am ignored. I think I started listening to jazz 2 years ago, but very casually and sparingly. Art Blakey remains my favorite out of what I've heard thus far! Happy New Year! Hi! Two days ago I received the wonderful reissue of Juliana Hatfield Three "Become what you are" in that very nice sunburnt vinyl from American Laundromat Records! It was difficult to get the original LP here in Germany, so I was really happy when I read that it will be re-released. And let me tell you - you have a really good taste of music :-) Best regards from Germany to US!

Hello there, Hanna! Sad to hear of the deaths of one of the guys from The Specials and Felt's Duffy. I have never heard the whole Lemonheads "It's A Shame About Ray" LP. I am going to listen to them today. Juliana Hatfield Three "Become What You Are" is a fantastic album and my fav of hers. I did not know it has been reissued. Not heard of The Skids before. On my list too, to listen to. Bill Evans is about the only jazz pianist I can listen to and I love jazz. Just not into too much piano. That Heartbreakers LP is fantastic. I love that song "Kim The Waitress." My favorite version is done by Sister Psychic. So catchy. Girl, that Alice In Chains...I had no idea you liked them. They're my favorite grunge band. I don't have any of their releases on vinyl. OMG "Mummer!" I do not have that on wax yet. My favorite off that LP is "Love On A Farmboy's Wages." I have XTC's "Wonderland" picture disc and the B side is "Toys." So good! Did you know back in the '90s that XTC had a newsletter, which I *think* was called "Chalkhills" or "Chalkhills And Children?" I had a few of those but do not know where they went. Bill Evans was a wonderfful pianist and that Acoustic Sounds audiophile reissue should sound excellent. The Heartbreakers album is terrific and Johnny was actually the sweetest guy, at least in the few times we talked together. I think the first two Gun Club albums are unique and excellent. Crossing the Red Sea with the Adverts is a classic punk album from early 1978 that should be a lot better known. Yay! As promised, the video I have been waiting for. So happy you grabbed the Lemonheads and the Blake Babies ;) I figured you would be all over those...as well as the Juliana Hatfield three. Starting out with the brand new ones to me. I am not familiar with the Skids, Associates, Chameleons, or Crambolage at all. I guess if it's foreign, it's harder and harder to find unless you stumble upon it. My favorite punk album of the year is a German one. Okay...you told me about the Epic Garden Music from Juno and that's so disappointing. I am starting to notice their packaging is getting more and more flimsy. I am going to have to dig into Feeding the Flames. I love atmospheric music from the post punk era. I cried when you showed the seam split on the Bill Evans. I am okay with a small seam split, maybe an inch but one of that size scares me. I hope you got a good deal on it. You made me laugh on the Jazz rabbit hole as it is a huge rabbit hole. It was for me ;) I saw that Gun Club reissue just recently. I am pretty sure Juno had it featured a couple of months ago. Material Issue...now there is a group I haven't heard or seen anyone feature in the VC. Too cool to see them on vinyl. And Dirt...I played that CD to death in the 90's. It was my first AIC pick up and then I circled around to their previous two. Ride's Nowhere is a classic and it's another one I haven't seen on vinyl before. I figured the Lemonheads and Blake Babies would be in the top five. I will have to check out Crossing the Red Sea with Adverts if it was your number one.

Thanks, Paul! Curious to see what German punk album you'll be showing in your 2022 rundown! Yeah, the seam split on this Bill Evans is not nice, but I got it for $21 used instead of the $36.99 new off Amazon! The vinyl is absolutely perfect. No biggie! I think in Michael 45 RPM's video review of this release his also had a seam split at the top. And his was brand new. WTF? Yeah...I don't think my account can handle me going down the jazz rabbit hole in addition to the rabbit holes I'm already deep into. LOL. Early Gun Club is so good. Loving the heck out of this press. I'm going to grab the Blixa Sounds reissue of their "Miami" album today off Amazon as it's been marked down to $23.99. Yeah, that's a great deal and there's demos and extras included. It's a 2-LP version. I think my intro to AIC was their "Unplugged" release and then I went back to their early material. I can listen to Layne sing all day. He was such a talent. Yes, this Adverts reissue is so very good! They were so awesome!

The Raveonettes - Whip It On/Chain Gang of Love the OG. Not sure if it counts as a reissue as only one side of it is a "pure" reissue - or if it's even available outside Denmark - but it's a goodie nonetheless. Otherwise I bought a lot of PJ Harvey reissues (and their companion demo LPs) - through 2020-2022. Well worth checking out. All of them. Also some nice Adrian Borland/the Sound "new" vinyl issues of previously unreleased or deleted CD-only stuff on the Sounds Haarlem label this last couple of years. Also not sure how much they count as reissues. Re- Ride - I had an original Creation copy I bought for 50p (less than a dollar) back in 1991 that I ended up selling a few years ago for a lot of money. It would have been a great instrumental LP but the singer's voice did my head in.

The Lemonheads... interesting alternative band... they are best known for their cover of "Mrs. Robinson" of which I remember hearing during Wayne's World 2. What fascinates me is about their lead singer, Evan Dando, who kinda co-write a song with Noel Gallagher (Formerly of Oasis) back in the day called "Purple Parallelogram" which would later be made into Oasis' "Roll With It" song.

The Chameleons reissue is remastered and a good reason to get it if you have the original Imaginary versions. It does sound better to my ears (and the cover art by Reg is fantastic). That Juliana Hatfield is KILLER dude! Have you discussed yet: BARK PSYCHOSIS?

@@TheOmahaIntrovert Wow no Bark Psychosis. They are a must hear ambient dream pop post rock UK legends. BTW thanks for your recommendation on the SACD version of The Church Starfish. The remaster sounds amazing. Since it's a dual layer disc you don't need a SACD player to hear the remaster. A regular CD player works. The definitive version!! The only downside is they omitted some of the best bonus tracks in order to fit on one CD. So keep your 2cd remaster set from 2005! 😎

Jazz is awesome and Bill Evans was a master of the craft. Careful though. The devil's jazz can overtake you and before you know it your shelves are sporting hard bop, free jazz, bossa nova, space jazz, smooth jazz, cool jazz, fusion and dixieland jazz. Anyway, I enjoyed the video (as usual) I always learn something new and that's a large part of what I'm looking for in VC videos. Thx!

Hannah, did you read about the 4 cd box of the full 4 shows Cheap Trick did during one weekend at the Whisky in 1977? Real Gone put it out a week ago and it's already sold out. Both reviews I read compared it to the Who's 'Live At Leeds.' That's how hard it apparently rocks. It's a co-release with the Epic/Legacy imprint, which makes me wonder why they only did 2000. UGH. Real Gone doesn't do represses and discogs has it for $200+ already. I get the whole 'limited edition' thing, but not when it's a band that has tons of fans all over the world and when it sounds like an important piece of awesome rock and roll.

I don't claim to be a jazz head but there was a time from the late 90's to the early 2010's where I was listening to jazz on and off... mainly the kind of Sinatra-esque stuff and similar artists in the modern era doing that stuff. I've been to a jazz concert twice, and it was to see the same artist twice lol. I felt so out of place because I am a rock guy.

Merry Christmas, Hanna (the budding jazz purist). That is some stack of goodies: Become What You Are (when it arrives), bought it in 1993, has since disappeared from my collection, boo; Skids ('Albert Tatlock!'), Carambolage (only stumbled upon them last year), Bill Evans, The Adverts, The Associates, The Chameleons (who played in my city earlier this month & I missed them), The Big Express (the last XTC LP that really does it for me; they lost their spikiness after that; love all the albums up to The Big Express except for Mummer which I've always had a visceral yuck-hate-it reaction to, songs, sleeve design, production, everything, yuck!) Keith Levene died? I missed that one. Cat kisses for Scamper! (not a Melt-Banana song title, though it could well be). Have a frohes Weihnachtsfest! (had to Google that). 😄

Tapete is a great indie label. They put out most, if not all, of Monochrome Set's 6 or 7 albums since they reformed. The label doesn't have a US distributor, so it's unlikely to find any in the wild and they are also very expensive. If you pick up any of those Set albums, will you talk about them in a video? Also, I was wondering if you've heard the EP that A. Partridge and R. Hitchcock made? I didn't pick it up when it came out. Thanks for the video and stay warm! It is scary cold here in Lincoln.

Your video reminded me of kzfaq.info/get/bejne/f7R6ZKuArtqqnXU.html . I can see why I liked it, although those drums couldn't be anymore '90s if you wrapped them in a lumberjack plaid. Not that the Blake Babies weren't rollerblading towards that vintage '90s vibe also.
