Dan finds out that a homestead is only a place of work when the love of your life is not there! Great work on the top looks ready to be christened with a curry? Keep the faith and continue to look after each other.

@theoriginhomestead how's it going with resendency. I'm sure it's tuff. Seems to be loads of people heading to Portugal. Probly getting a bit stiff on rules. Good you are making go of it. Both young enough to keep plodding on. We're praying everything comes good. 🙏 sean & Mary belfast 🍀 ♥️

Hi Laura and Dan, you lovely couple! I am very happy to see you! Laura I am glad you got to spend some time with your Mother. That is always very special. Dan, you are a blessed husband and the surprise for Laura and you missing her warmed my heart. The kitchen looks so great and the tiles came out perfect. I watched that segment over and over, pausing, so I could take it all in. The beauty all around you and the darkening sky is magical. It will be so cool when you all can sit at the table, chat, cook, watch the sunrise/sunset, and enjoy God's creation. TY for creating yet another gorgeous and inspiring video. It truly does my soul good to share it with you. God bless you & Love in Christ. ~John

Wow! That countertop, stove, and sink is beautiful! Feels good to be with you experiencing this. I mean, you are manifesting a functional aesthetic piece that your life will revolve around, and that little mosaic artwork that Laura did is forever whispering her name to those who know. For us, it was only a few minutes that Laura was gone and it was different but for Dan, it was four whole days! Having a part of you missing for four whole days...I guess life demands that sometimes we make sacrifices. I was hoping to hear an update on the snake, rat, and ceiling thing? Other than in the movies, I don't think I have seen a snake that big in my life! It brought the ceiling down, and there was screaming...ha, ha. Was that Laura who screamed?

Regarding your immigration process. An encouragement message. Born in Eastern Europe, escaped at 18, sold by neighbor country and sent back. Spent 10 months in political prisons, second time escaped and crossed all the way to Western Europe. Was shot at at one border, long ordeal, hunger, freeze, etc. One month later after Christmas father shot and killed trying to escape the home country.. Crossed the pond legally and lived in USA. My point is that while not all things are created equal NEVER EVER GIVE UP. You guys are young, decent, unpretentious, brave and hard working. Whatever happens it will be OK and you'll be fine! Keep going, and don't look back...

Just noticed a couple of screws not countersunk , It is nice to have a countersunk bit to allow the screw to have that fixed first before you put in the screw, so that the head of the screw doesnt have to push away some of the wood to make a nice job out of it.being flush.

Hey folks, let me give you a tip. You could've made the countertop out of concrete with some reinforcement bars and you'd never have to worry about humidity ever again. Just don't forget to set up a "wind blocker," or else the stove burners will go out with the slightest breeze. 🌬And finally, get some covers for the stove and the sink because the winters around here aren't a joke. Keep going strong and... barnnnnnnnnn! 😛
@theoriginhomestead
@theoriginhomestead 9 ай бұрын
yes this is something we thought about a lot and had originally planed to do so but we could not find the products in portugal to do so. As you may or not no to do a concrete mould like a counter top requires certain products for elasticity and other stuff and we could not find :)

When the wood starts to shrink all the tiles will fall of. You should have made a concrete slab to set all the tiles.

Somehow I missed this one. Looks great! I'm trying to think of an idea how to build a cover for the countertop. I'm thinking if you have to clean and prepare the countertop every time you want to use it, that'd be kinda discouraging to ever use the kitchen. I was thinking you could put a cover on it and put it on a hinge. That way its easy to open and everything stays clean and ready to use.

no worries glad you get to catch up :) Not sure what you think it would get dirty with weather? just apart of living in country so doesn't bother us 💚

Outstanding job guys! Being outside you will need a little wind guard of some sort to keep the flames from blowing out. A couple of pieces of plywood screwed together will do the job, it doesn't have to be fancy. Again, GREAT job!

Just a little tip when cutting the tiles, cut the face of the tiles not the back thats probably why your getting bag cuts. Transfer the marks from the back of the tile to the front using you tape measure and a streight edge. Looks good thought keep up the good work but hopefully be a bit easier for next time 👍

Also tile adhesive a little bit wetter it helps to spread easier especially when your in a really hot climate
