It’s always good to see Asian representation in sports. But if the mixed athletes don’t have distinctive asian features - they’re only going to be seen as the color of their skin. And most of the time, that’s the case and the asian part of them is dismissed.

Not only that, but because their Asian side is mostly from the mother side, their last name isn't Asian neither, so it's really hard to know that they are even half Asian at times. I literally just found out that Jalen Green is half Asian from this video and I'm pretty big into the NBA

Jordan Norwood's brother Gabe plays professional basketball in the Philippines. Nikko Remigio has good stats for Fresno State so he might go on to NFL too. Doug Baldwin just retired in 2022 from Seatle Seahawks as a WR he is also half Pinoy. As for NBA..Ron Harper Jr also plays for Toronto Raptors. His mom is Filipina too. He has a younger brother Dylan who played with Jalen Green when they were teens in the Philippines repping FilAm team in basketball. Dylan will most likely be in the NBA next year.

The reason why Asians struggle at getting into the big leagues of American sports is because they are constantly overlooked by scouts due to their race. This also happens at high school and college sports where Asian athletes, if they get picked at all, are left on the bench even if they might be better than the other players. I've personally experienced it myself and seen it happen to my Asian friends at other schools. When you're being penalized for your race, it's only natural that Asian Americans eventually stop trying. And then people start wondering if Asians are unathletic and bad at sports

You guys make a good point especially why you specifically chose contact sports and bringing up how genetics play it’s part. You can have a really good athlete in non-contact sport who is pure Korean, or Japanese, or Filipino but when it comes to contact sport like NFL, genetics will play it’s part as these type of sport would create advantages for people who have a bigger bone structure genetically. Why wasn’t this video longer 😂 it was entertaining

I know this isn't the main sports discussed in the video, but Chloe Kim as well. Her dad revolved her childhood around making her successful. I think sometimes Asian parents don't prioritize sports as much so even if genetically/athletically a full asian is capable, they don't get the development opportunities to be competitive and make it pro. I noticed a good number of professional players have been playing the game since they were kids (so they honed their skills over a long period of time). From my prospective, if good enough to make it college athletics but not in the pros, still its a free education to develop a career with. So its not quite a bad thing.

The full Asians Americans that want to have a chance to be part of the professional sporting landscape in the USA need to get into sports that requires different type of physical capabilities and talent. The two types of sports are baseball and soccer. IMO, soccer and baseball should be the sports that full Asian, born and raised, should be investing and spending their time with. You don't have to be very tall, muscular or incredibly fast to become a legit professional player.

Tons of Polynesian/Pacific Islanders in football! But I'll argue that Baseball even though is "non-contact" in relation to Football, Basketball, and Hockey there still is a level of physical talent that is necessary in order to make it to the highest level whether that be arm strength, speed, or power (when batting). It's really hard for someone who is under say 5'8 to generate alot of power whether pitching or hitting so the players who are are around that height are usually speed/finesse players

I'm mixed, I'm definitely physically different. Most mixed people come out more like one side or the other, but there are some real inbetweeners. All these guys you featured are inbetween. I could have gone the boxing route and been a heavyweight half Filipino but my parents wanted me purely on the academics. I don't know if we'll ever see a heavyweight full-blooded Asian boxer. Don't feature Bautista's fight, please, hahahaha!

@@joelparas2508 Oh, I've seen him before. He's half Pinoy, like me. Another inbetweener. I even look similar to him since our Dad's are Pinoy. Kids come out different when the father is the Filipino. Vera is tall, huh? I'm the same weight but only 5'10". I've got the stocky Tyson build. I wish I had pursued martial arts, I coulda been a contenda!

Forget mainstream sports. I wish there was an Asian American (or any Asian born and raised in any country) who was a professional dunker. Dunking a basketball is a skill that even Whites struggle with and to see an Asian do it would be the ultimate Alpha athletic talent.

If you look at the NHL you can see it's comprised of mostly Canadians. It absolutely comes down to the type of system put in place in the country. Many of the NHL's top talent is Canadian, and has been for a very long time. There is little to no genetic differences between the average American and average Canadian. It's all about the time and resources invested into the development of the players. Not to mention, competition breeds innovation. The more high quality talent there is, the more likely stronger talent will emerge.

Being short is an advantage in long distance running due to low center of gravity and less weight needing to be carried a long distance. I mean, have you known a 7 footer to finish even a marathon?

Other part Filipino NFL athletes: Josh Jacobs and Doug Baldwin. I think that being mixed nationality is part of the reason these mixed Asians can make it so far, but I honestly think the Filipino genes play a factor as well. As a Filipino male, I think that athetically, my strongest attributes are quickness and explosiveness, which these NFL athletes possess to excel at their positions.
