OMG! The P1000 has restored the enjoyment of photography. My dslr with 300mm lens was seldom used as it did not have enough zoom to bring birds & critters up close enough to make it worthwhile. I sure wasn’t going to spend a thousand or more on just a lens - which still probably wouldn’t do want I wanted. This camera does. And my moon shot @ 12,000mm handheld is so impressive that a child ran her finger over the print to try and feel the craters. This camera is great, and I haven’t even gotten into the video capability yet!

I agree but the worst part about the P 1000 is no one has been able to show you can copy and paste any video file you can take with the camera. You can take videos with it, but you cannot copy or paste them...

Yatukih001 , I just did a video for the first time. Put the SD card in computer. The video is mp4. The program which auto ran it (in Win10) is Photos. Can Trim, add music, text, slomo, etc., then save edited file. No problem.

2022 Update: I would HIGHLY recommend using DXO Photolab 5 with this camera (and really any crop sensor machine) even if the final editing is done in some other product. Applying just their "Standard" preset corrections and Deep Prime AI noise reduction to your RAW files will provide improvements that are nearly as exciting as the massive zoom lens on this gigantic "bridge" camera . . . pixel peeper heaven! 😎

Here’s another consideration, I like to hike and I take either the P1000 or it’s little brother the P950 but I use them as my binoculars it’s difficult to hold a 50x set of binoculars steady, but my Nikons go even farther and have great stabilization, plus I can snap a shot if I want. less weight in my bag because I don’t need binoculars anymore.

Great to catch your video's on the P1000 and agree with your honest assessment of it's capabilities. I've had mine for over 3 years now and found it really good for what I want. Not only for taking photos but also as a spotting scope while out bird/animal watching, although as a result I go through a number of batteries (5 in one day while out in Scotland recently).

For those who can afford it, the P1000 “coupled” with a Nikon D7500 using the Tamron 18-400 DX zoom have the best of both worlds and a formidable photographic setup. The APS-C sensor for closer shots and the P1000 for those “further away” shots is such a cool blending of technologies to achieve massive photographic potentials. I think the real trick is to be able to maximise the pixels in the shot, giving maximum detail and cropping optically other than reducing the digital image is a great way to go. Cheers

Yup, its a good idea indeed! I often bring my P1000 along with my Olympus OM1 with the 100-400mm lens. One for long zoom shots and the other for action shots. It should be the best of both worlds, except that carrying both together is really heavy and bad for my back. 😆

Such a thorough and well balanced review. Thank you. I am getting the P1000. It just looks like so much fun, which is they most important part of photography. I have had many very expensive gear, including most recently a Sony A7RV, but have not found much true joy using it for non-pro shooting. This camera is a cheap thrill, and delivers what it sets out to in the most spectacular way. You really get your money's worth. Anyway you earned yourself a new subscriber. Looking forward to more great reviews.

Hi Snap. I wish you can explain to us how exactly the ISO should be understood in this bridge camera. Because I've made some indoor test in low light condition and "seems" that indoor this camera can shoot with a flash with iso 100 to a shelves of books, and capturing well details and texts very well....and seems to equal to a 1600 in my DSLR Canon 77D. I understand the Crop factor about focal lenght and aperture. But how the ISO is to interpret? Nikon B700 (same quality as P1000) -> ISO 100, 1/3 at F4 WITH FLASH handheld Canon 77D+ 18-135 USM -> ISO 1600, 1/4 at F8 WITH FLASH handheld (F 3.5 or 4 came of terrible quality) I've gained quite the same quality picture and pixel pipped on them. Raising the ISO on the bridge to 400 has increased the quality to the picture, but aswell would happen to the DSLR over 1600. So I've came to this conclusion: Applying the crop factor on a bridge camera on F4 , would mean an equivalent of a close aperture on a DLSR which we'll use for landscape. But the problem of the Bridge is: even if we are raising the aperture to 8 to gain even more detail, the camera merges all things on the distance and quality is not there. But on short distance, the differences can not be noticed that much on both devices AND.... AND... with the compact point and shoot toy I've shot easier and with less way shots rather than the DSLR. Strange uh? And because of this I've became sad... because: The hell is this! This toy is shooting at ISO 100 and gainig the same quality as the DSLR on 1600. I'm inviting you to take the same pic, around at 24-30 mm on a pile of books over the shelves, to see the level of details on low light "with Flash". So you can spot the differences (quite none)

I don’t have the P1000, but is very interested on it’s capabilities as compared to the 200-500. If I have the P1000, I would use something similar to the RRS MPR-192 rail/plate to keep the center of gravity forward under the lens.

Good review and sold me on the p1000. We are very camera novices . Our 1st "real" camera other than a phone was a Nikon p610 3 or 4 years ago. We love that camera for simplicity and zoom but on our last trip to Yellowstone in 2017 it didnt have as much zoom as we needed to get a good shot of a grizzly across a valley eating dinner. We could see it, others couldnt, but not great and the pictures were so so. This time MORE zoom is needed for our next trip this summer. Thus, me doing research and watching reviews. Thanks for the info.

A late comment. I have a P1000 and have found it far easier to stabilise it hand-held, rather than using a tripod. I'm considering (once the warranty has expired) making a mount that I can glue to the base of the lens where your hand usually rests. But either way I find bracing myself when using full zoom is sufficient for decent images.

Maybe attach a Desmond DPL-150 Long Lens Quick Release turned long way to stabilize on a Tripod: I had a Nikon 1 V3 with an F mount adapter, it was a 2.7 crop factor CX sensor. Mounted that camera on my Nikon 600mm with a 1.4TC :) Lots of fun, almost as much fun as your Nikon P1000. Thanks for the review.

I think the last major point they made is important, maybe the camera isn't going to give you quite that pixel perfect photo as well as your mirrorless or whatever, but it lets you take some pictures that wouldn't exist otherwise if you were doing a more traditional setup. You may not even realize what you missed out on. Don't get me wrong, I love my full frame mirrorless camera, but so often I end up going with the p1000 instead just because it simply sees things you wouldn't be able to see otherwise.

Coming to this video late but it makes me miss what I could do with my p100 back in 2010 and all the trials and tribulations I had with it. It just feeks so tiny now but at the time it was my first "good" camera. I have the D500 now and am saving up for a 200-500. I passed on the p1000 after experiencing the limitations of bridge cameras but now I am giving it a rethink. I would loke to maybe wait untill they figure out the kinks if they do manage that with allmthe trouble they are having.

Fine series about the Nikon P1000 superzoom bridgecamera. I think these bridgecamera's are underrated by photographers for mostly the wrong reasons. Besides my Sony fullframe A7 and my Sony A5100 aps-c bodies with lenses upto 500mm. fullframe I still own and use my Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ200, with the same sensor as the P1000 but with a max. zoom of 600mm. With this handy, light bridgecamera I have made lots of pictures aboard ship (as a now retired merchant mariner) which hold their own against the more expensive Sony's with their telelenses. If you have the time and chance I would like to hear from you your findings of the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ80/82 as a travelcamera, because it is smaller and lighter than the P1000. Regards from the Netherlands, Dirk the DutchTugMaster.

Great video (and the previous one too) One area that these bridge cameras are making inroads is as a better camcorder. They're quite popular with YT'ers as you get better IQ and way more control than your average camcorder and not *stupidly* more cost. At least thats what I use my FZ2500 for.

Raymond really reminds me of super hans from the peepshow series 😄 Serious note though, these nikons are really underrated. I took mine out today and got stunning photos of sea birds and their young on a cliff face. I don't think 600mm and cropping would have got me as good results. Leigh, I have RX10 IV last few months and the only complain what I have about it is that stabilization for stills is only the standard one (other two better levels of stabilization are for video only). And I have also Sony HX90 and HX400V, which both have better stabilization, especially HX400V pretty much "locks" the picture. So if you would come across with RX10 IV, I would love to hear what you think about that, would you like to have better stabilization on RX10 IV for still images or you think it's sufficient (I often do shots in the forest in late afternoon with extended zoom). And if you could afford to spend a whole week with RX10 IV, that would be even better! Thank you. ;)

Enough so that I think you convinced me that this is a good choice for someone like me who is a passionate enthusiast, and certainly never going to earn a paycheck from photography. No camera is perfect, but for the price, this checks off a lot of boxes. Thanks again!

can we expect a comparison between p1000 and p950?

If it had been an option at the time I bought my used fossil dslr I'd have been sorely tempted to buy the P1000.

A "fossil" DSLR would cost 20 times lower though.
@TimberGeek
@TimberGeek 5 жыл бұрын
@@HandleIsNewAndBad Not quite 20 times (it's a higher end fossil) but less than a third at the time and it supports F-mount lenses from 1977 on.

I don't get why most people complain about the size of this camera, yet some 800mm are twice the length of this..

You will crack your camera body if you don’t use a tripod mount from the huge front end weight. I picked up a reasonably priced one and now don’t worry about it

Hi, any chance you can link what you use? I think a macro rail might be a good solution.

I have not used the P900, though it seems to have as many fans as the P1000.

The p900 is like the p1000 but 33% lighter, 33% shorter zoom, no raw, no focus ring, no 4k, no hot shoe, no snapbridge...still a great camera, just a few years old.

For the stability of the camera, one can use rail system on tripod head. Something like this www.amazon.in/dp/B00QJWQW6E/ref=cm_sw_em_r_mt_dp_U_cQZjDb2FTY696

Your talking image quality i find know fault in my P900 images and they sell yes i have other top range nikon cameras but the p900 is ideal for wildlife. I am talking from 48 years with a camera. The main factor for any bridge camera is stay away from the digital zoom yes there your images will know doubt be shabby looking but optical zoom is just fine.
