Today we take on another of the scenarios from the Quest of the Ringbearer book from Games Workshop where we dive back into the Mines of Moria and see how the Fellowship will cope with being attacked while in Balin's Tomb!
Can the Hobbits survive?
Will we meet a Cave Troll?

Those heroic actions would have made a big difference as well. Being able to charge and whatnot would've made this a different game as well. Great video as always guys!

Utlizing heroic moves and heroic strikes (specifically against the troll) could’ve won the game for the fellowship. Great battle report as usual!

Loving that terrain! Your custom set of Dwarf Captains are on their way to the gym's office, Turin and Fingolfin have fallen into the box too ;) would make my year if the dwarves made their way into your army

Great battlereport once again! Strategically speaking i think i might have been a good idea for aragon to have used a free point of might to do heroic move so to help boromir against the cave troll - also because of the heroic fight special rule so that the fightvalue would become higer than the troll. And remember that every hero (including frodo and sam) has heroic move so they could have gotten out of some sticky situations. Though i understand your choice of keeping the might on the squishy hobbits for winning fight, aragon ended up having not used several of his free points of might due to the fact he was wining combats anyway Anyway good job cant wait to see more!

Also dont the cavetroll and boromir have the same fightvalue? why did the troll automatically win on 6s?

Yeah a lot of annoying things happened here haha my balin's tomb games are quite different as heroes EVER have initiative cause heroic moves and Gandalf just immobilize the troll every turn

I did a homebrew version of this scenario cause I feel the troll underwhelmed and the goblin hordes too op compared to what we can see in the film (just opposed) 1: if troll chain impact as ranged weapon, the enemy is knoked prone. Also the chain gives the troll a free heroic strike every combat that improves his fight value in a D3. Might points cannot be used to wound the troll. 2: just moria goblins that enters the game via door can actually charge in the same turn. The others are trated as reinforcements.

Using Aragorns free might for free heroic combats and heroic moves might have helped swing things more in the fellowships favour, great report guys!

Killing the goblins seems pointless as they simply re spawn. I’d just hussle the fellowship up on of the stairwells and place Gimli at the top, with the goblins having to funnel into him as an immovable killing machine

now I am going to watch the battle in Balin's tomb movie version. EDIT: I am now on round 3, it is still awesome and the dark lighting really fucking sets good tones.

Sorcerous Blast used to be bowling. It got nerfed pretty hard but honestly it deserved it.

i bought the box game of balins tomb to get me into wargaming and i love it ... i built 3d terrain and ordered the armies and rule books ... to play this scenario with the real rulea, will i meed other models ? if so which ones ? thanka

You guys need to do some rematch videos. I think the fellowship could have done a lot better starting further back.

hey guys ! great video, but be carefull, you made some mistakes during the combat phase between troll and different hero from the fellowship. they have both 6 on combat skill so the troll doesn't win the combat directly. You forgot to roll the heros attak and in case of equality, roll the dice to know who win the combat. boromir, and after gimli are the two combat l've already see for the moment.

I noticed it as well, I was like why dont you roll for boromir twice in a row and gimli as well xD Pay more attention to these details they can be very important Also the goblin hitting gimli had 3str gimli has defence 8 I think thats a 6/4 or 6/5 to wound

The problem with this game is the basic mechanics of combat and numbers counter heroes and makes these epic battles pretty easy for the hordes

Yeah you're right for sure. It is slightly off balanced and the bigger army will normally always win. But thats when might and heroic actions have to be sed selectively and tactically :)
