He arguably lost to Jan and definitely lost to Izzy their 2nd bout. Alex luckily beat Izzy by ko after losing, even being dominated, the entire fight their first mma bout. So what’s your point?

I don't get the Ankalaev hype at all. His best wins are Walker and Smith, which age worse by the day. He has 1 submission win (Maybe? Although I feel like a rare fan of ank who lives in the west, always thought he was a good representation of a light heavyweight(although seems a bit thin for it) he’s prob not the massive threat on the ground we think. Alex is so big and survives in bad positions. Ank doesn’t seem to have a big sub threat. I’m personally a big fan of both, would love a competitive fight. Ank seems the most defensively safe of the top few lhw’s. Just don’t see how you can be perfect, which is literally what you need to be against Alex. Ank needs to train with khabibs guys if even possible right now. Alex of course doesn’t need to change anything. Also I’m pretty sure that’s Ali tweeting for Ank lol

I'd say Jan is more defensively sound on the feet due to his low kick defence but the takedown threat from Ankalaev might make Alex more hesitant on the feet which would play in Ankalaev's favour so the question is whether at that point after having his back taken by Jan in round 1 was Alex more worried of Jan taking him down or will he be more worried about Ankalaev's takedown in their fight. Either way it is not impossible to stay competitive on the feet with Alex at least enough for the grappling to potentially edge the fight your way. I think the key thing that worked in favour of Jan was the fact that, despite actually outlanding Alex in terms of headshots, he wasn't overextending himself looking for a 1 shot ko, which so far worked once for Izzy when it was Alex who went for the finish too hard, but stayed composed and made Alex think about the takedowns throughout the fight

It's not that he's scared. Jones has fought killers before, it's not a fear thing. He's been pretty straight forward about it. Aspinall is the current champ, sure. But no one is saying that Aspinall is the greatest Heavyweight of all time like Miocic. Jones only cares about beating other legacy fighters because it makes his legacy better, regardless of the circumstances. It's just like how people praising Garry for his win over MVP even though it was a shit performance. The "win is a win" mentality is what Jones is leaning on. Jones respects Aspinall, but the level of effort needed to beat him wouldn't equate to the same impact for his legacy like the easy win over Stipe would. To Jones, being the greatest LHW of all time, and beating the greatest HW of all time as well means more to him than beating the current HW champ. But if Alex comes up and beats Aspinall, then the legacy impact of beating the current HW champ, and the first ever 3 division champ would stamp Jones as the greatest MMA fighter ever, and it would never be questioned because those circumstances will never be recreated.

And couldn't take Jan down once in the first 3 rounds despite trying repeatedly which the fight was contracted for btw (which is at least somewhat important as Jan's cardio is a little sus). Also in the fifth Jan tripped before Ankalaev even touched him so that speaks more to Jan being gassed than Ankalaev's amazing takedowns. Also the damage in round 5 wasn't anything special like you make it out to be. You are not fooling anyone with the "I'm not a fan of Dagestani fighters" line ^^ edit I guess I forgot about that takedown 10 seconds before the 3rd round ended that at that point he couldn't even do anything with so kudos for going 1 of 7 on takedown attempts in the first 3 rounds 🤷

Idk about that, Ank was the only one who looked beat up at the end. Also gotta factor in that Jan beat the shit out of him with leg kicks too, he could hardly stand after that. Alex leg kicks are the best leg kicks in the entire sport. He also doesn't have the striking Jan has to close that distance and get the takedown, so he's more liable to get clipped in the mean time. Then there's the fact that he's only been training it more and getting better. He doesn't need to know everything, he just needs to know how to survive to the end of the round, which based on both of them fighting Jan, he absolutely can. Then next round they're back on the feet and he's liable to spark him.

I just rewatched it, Jan did an amazing job blocking in round 5 and his face was clean at the end of the fight. He also landed some good elbows from bottom.

Ankalaev was almost finished by Jan's calf kicked. Alex's kicks are even worse.

I dont understand why people like to point out Alexs grappling improvement againts non grapplers which are the easiest to learn grappling defense for. Of course Pereira adapted well to non grapplers in the grappling department.

The guy has been shielded from grapplers pretty hard for a reason. Jiri's take downs are garbage. A shitty double leg dosen't make a grappler. the yellow belt in judo says it all.

People's gut said Jiri both times. Alex proved them wrong. He will do the same against Magomed, then he will knock fat Jones tf out to become the greatest of all time.

To be fair...Jiri and Hill are both dogshit. Not impressive wins. I say that because Alex is a high level kickboxer. Most UFC fighters are absolute shit and shouldn't be fighting in an organisation that prides itself with having the best fighters in the world. Anthony Smith, Roman Dolidze, Jiri Prochazka, Jamahall Hill are in the top 10 but are all terrible fighters. Johnny Walker as well. These fighters will lose 9/10 times against fighters like Alex Pereira because he is a specialist and actually dedicated himself to the craft. What did Jiri do when the fight was booked? Locked himself in a shed for three days with no food or water, instead of learning how to keep his hands up and checking leg kicks. Yes I get it, you won't be the best leg checker or have the best guard with three extra days of training and drilling, but that is what he should have worked on anyways.
