Well if you do that for years professionally every day basically 10hours, its no surprise + music theory and western music twelve tone equal temperament is really simple, afterall. Its all the different instruments and sounds you do with the same simple foundation that makes it sound different, even the building blocks are the same for every song. Thats why its very simple to grasp.

Think of it like this, when you hear word spoken , then you can easily repeat them. well with music it is the same , but it feels like it should be radically different simply because most everyone doesn't spend the same time ' learning' music as they do using words, except musicians of course

As a so called "musician" with formal training on a few different instruments, it's only drums that I possess the ability of "playing by ear." Shit is ludicrous. I've seen some peeps with a similar ability, but it usually varies in technicality or specific instruments/genres. In the end, the comments above are right about Western music being extremely easy (I believe computer coding has a similar vibe) and usually that's what it is. Then again, some of us, myself included; just sing/hum along and then can just naturally make the body follow along. I have no idea how the other instruments do it, but drumming just made sense. Years of listening to the early drum line boys "bark" at each other, and as a saxophonist mocking them... They literally taught me. Lol. Do it every day, anything becomes nature.

I would just like to mention that Insomniac is a great record. Obviously everyone loves Dookie, and the Smooth records and Kerplunk hold a special place in the hearts of early fans, but Insomniac is sort of forgotten. Simple music like Greenday is a gateway to rock for a lot of people. I heard power chords and the sing along melodies when I was 13 or 14 and was hooked. I started playing guitar doing the same thing… and, while i may have developed a taste for more complex music, I still love a good pop punk song.

I was obsessed with GD in middle school (2008-2010) as they were the band that introduced me to rock/punk and got me into music and playing instruments. These days I much prefer their 90s era stuff, especially Insomniac. American Idiot and 21st Century Breakdown still hold up, imo. Anything after that, I stopped keeping up with as I got more into electronic music. They still haven't released anything that's stood out to me, I'm hoping they deliver something substantial with this new one

I think the issue that Green Day are facing is that they're playing it safe. They're not a bad band by any means, but one of the things that have made them so revolutionary, is the fact that they're not afraid to change their sound. This song to me sounds more like an outtake from Revolution Radio, while not a bad thing, I think a lot of us expect something new... while still maintaining their roots as a punk rock band. I can't say much because it's literally just ONE song from the new record, but I hope we get some true bangers out of it.

Justin, nice shirt. I was fortunate to see The Darkness play at the 930 club this last Sunday. It was a fantastic show as always. Do you enjoy when your fans attempt to sing along like I did the whole show? There was a section during Makin' Out towards the end where the instruments stop and you generally sing "mamamama making out with you". Well that night you didn't sing that part, but I sure did, rather poorly. It was a great experience for me either way because it caused you to make eye contact with me, haha. Great stuff. I can't wait to see you again. Ps. often times ;)

The post chorus and guitar solo are basically a copies of "Basket Case". This new album is coming out in 2024, which is the 30th anniversary of "Dookie" so it makes perfect sense to have an homage to that song on the new album.

“It couldn’t be simpler” 😂 Yup! That’s our Green Day all right! But that’s why we love ‘em. Simple riffs, basic chords, catchy refrains and three guys with access to the fountain of youth! Seriously though, Billy Joe just doesn’t seem to age at all! 😂 Will be adding this album to my wish list. It might not be sophisticated but it’s “happy music” and there’s nothing wrong with that! 😁🥰💖

I'm sick of people making excuses for bands making mediocre music, when they've proven in the past that they're capable of so much more. It's just lazy at this point.
@NinStardust
@NinStardust 8 ай бұрын
@@jimboc669Not every song can be exceptional. If they all were then exceptional would become the new mediocre. What would you expect then? No band can have hit after hit after hit. That’s just unrealistic and unattainable. Even Queen had flops. But you wouldn’t call them “lazy songwriters”. Just because a song doesn’t meet your personal standards doesn’t make the band lazy or a complete write-off.

@@jimboc669Sounds to me like you've a hard time to understand, that other people like songs, that you don't like. This is punk. Punk rock. Pop punk. Hard rock. Call it whatever you want. Let a musician tell you: Green Day were always very simple. There's nothing stupid, bad or even new about it. They are just simple. Catchy, folky. They even often make better songs, than many bands with much more versatile, complex music.

I saw Green Day play at Tipitina's back in the early nineties and after the show, found them walking the streets of the quarter. Billie Joe was only interested in finding an Irish Pub to get drinks in, so not surprised he has this Irish folk bit.

@lavenderllama7725 all brilliant songs. Tbh I love everything green day has done minus the trilogy albums and the last album. A lot of guitar minded people like Justin don't rate them because as he says their guitar work is fairly simple but to me that's the beauty of it all.

@@86paul80Exactly! Same here. I stopped keeping up after 21st Century Breakdown as I had gotten really into electronic music throughout high school. The trilogy onward is very hit or miss for me. I'm a punk guy through and through, so I never really cared for complex guitar work. It's nice sometimes, sure, but i can do without it. Good simple riffs with a good bite can go a long way. Green Day and Nirvana are great examples of that
