Thanks for the review. Based on graphs, most customs seem to reduce the pinna gain and lower treble peaks (like, U12t vs A12t). So can CIEM version of the L4 tame the 2-3khz brightness and sort the issues with the tuning?

It's possible, but there's no way to know for sure until someone actually measures one. The other issue you might run into is that you'll lose some resolution by lowering the ear gain, the UM MEST custom being a good example.

I love the ER4XR sound but just feels it is a bit beyond what I am willing to spend, would the L4 be a good compromise or what else would you recommend at this price point ?

Did you try foams? I've experienced BA "congestion" before with ikko OH1 and tip rolling took them from a meh to my EDC. My L4s should be arriving this week 🤘

My unit sounds super closed in, unit variance perhaps? Other than that, there is little to criticize about the L4, it has good tonal balance and decent resolution for the price.

Which iem would you recommend over the legacy 4 at this price point? And which would you choose between legacy 4 vs. Kbear believe?

One more question! Which bluetooth amp/dac do you recommend? I absolutely love your reviews. Honestly one of the best reviewer I've heard so far

I have not heard the Kbear, sorry! While there isn’t a comparable hybrid IEM that comes to mind, I do prefer the Etymotic ER2XR and Moondrop KXXS mainly for coherency and timbre, even though they’re not as technical as the L4. As for Bluetooth amps/dacs, tbh I just slap on my AirPods Pro if I’m using wireless!

Hey, so I borrowed an FH3. Just listened to a few songs and here are some impressions: They have similar bass shelves w/ the L4 being a little more incisive tonality-wise and significantly more controlled intangibly. The FH3 exhibits some unevenness around the upper-midrange/treble regions. FH3 is warmer, at least relative to the L4's stock setting. Technicalities lag behind the L4 with the crossover between the DD/BAs in the midrange being more obvious despite the extra warmth, and transient attack being softer all-round. Hope this helps!

@@Precogvision yes, there is a weird peak at 5.5KHz, how about the bass quality? my favourite thing about FH3 is the bass, and I'm mostly listening to metal songs,

@@digitalnation2876 Tbh, the FH3 sounds blunted in the mid-bass relative to the L4 to me. I think the L4 also slopes out more controlled at around ~400hZ relative to the FH3 at around 1kHz. Of course, what you qualify as good bass might be different depending on what you're looking for.

The L4 is more technical and I’d say it’s tuned a little better. You’d want the L5 if you are looking for a smoother, more warm listen.

Kxxs or L4?

Just depends on your preferences. KXXS is more tonally pleasing to me, and the timbre is better. L4 is brighter with more treble presence and better technicalities.
