This video will illustrate how to replace the Backup Battery (CMOS Battery, Coin-cell Battery) in your ThinkPad T440, T440s, T450 or T450s laptop.

Easy enough. My system wouldn't power on. I used this guide to reset my CMOS battery and it booted right up. Thanks for this info.

Hello, I didn't use my T440 laptop for 8 months. Now it displays that it not charging and powers of when I remove the AC adaptor. So, do I need to change the only external battery for T440? If so, do I have to open the whole laptop as demonstrated in the video?

Hi Mohammad. Thanks for reaching out to us. Try doing power drain first. Remove all peripheral devices connected to the laptop including the charger and the external battery then press and hold the power button for 15 seconds. Once done, plugged in the charger and just let the battery out and turn on the laptop. If the laptop turns on with only the charger then the external battery is defected and needs replacement. Suppose the CMOS / RTC (Real Time Clock) backup battery of a thinkpad fails. Will the BIOS complain about RTC or checksum error if the thinkpad is either constantly connected to either the AC power supply or the thinkpad's non-depleted main battery? I would assume that as long as the RTC is still powered by the AC power supply or the main battery, the BIOS wouldn't complain. The reason I ask is that I left a thinkpad in storage for a few years. The CMOS battery seems to be still powering the RTC, but I'm not keen on opening many things to replace it in case it fails. If there's an alarm about the CMOS battery dead every time I turn the thinkpad on even though there are alternative sources of power to keep the RTC alive, then that would really suck.

I'm not able to update the bios on my l440 using conventional method of. Exp and Cd drive? Will removing cmos help?

Hello.. ive lenovo w50 which isn't booting up.. no issue with the ram.. the led light on the power botton stays on when ac adapter is plugged in. Could it be the backup power cell that's faulty?

How to disable internal battery if you cannot get a boot to BIOS? Trying the old, "pull battery/AC, push power button, plug AC & try to power-up" trick....Is it a "crack-open-case" situation?

If you are unable to get into the BIOS you can remove the bottom cover and disconnect the internal batter cable from the system board as shown in the video. It has the same effect, we just include it in the video in case users were unable to enter the BIOS, as in your case.

In a T440 20B7SOREOG where is the WWAN 4G slot?Just over the Hard Drive as we see it in that view?Can I replace it with an M.2 (2242) SSD?In the boot menu after hitting F12 i have 2 options ,one for my hard drive i 'm using and another one PCI LAN.Where does this refer to?When i press F1 startup_then _boot i have 8 options ata hdd1 ata hdd2,what are these ones too,please?

may I ask if the internal battery of the t450 T440 and t440s are the same ? because i have a T450 model and i'm looking for buying an internal battery and i always find in the discrption of the battery thath they are for the T440 model

Actually Sir, when I'm press the power button my T450 thinkpad doesn't start and sometimes after lots of try maybe it's turn on...now still happening this problem so what should I do?

You can try doing a power drain. Remove all peripheral devices connected to the computer then press and hold the power button for 15 seconds. Plug the machine back then turn it on. -Jomz_Lenovo

@@LenovoSupport Thanks for response , no there were no updated or changes , it was working fine but suddenly it turned off and then never turned on , i tried different charger but no luck , i have tried different solutions given online but nothing worked , also i would like to tell you that the battery was already deads so i was using laptop directly since long. I want to ask that is it reccomended to use without battery? Also since its not turning on then it means its internal battery is also dead now. where it is located ? and does it has anything to do with cmos?

Thanks for writing us back, Sadaqat. Have you tried to update your BIOS? Meanwhile, kindly follow the steps below if you still haven't tried it. 1. Press Windows key + I to open Settings. 2. Choose Update & Security. 3. Select Recovery from the left pane. 4. Under the Advanced startup, click Restart now. 5. Choose Troubleshoot. 6. Select Advanced options. 7. Choose UEFI Firmware Settings and click Restart. 8. Reset all settings to default and reboot your PC. We'll wait for your update. Fraineee_Lenovo

Hello Aymen, Thanks for reaching out. Please let us know if you have a password set in your BIOS? Because if this is the case this will set the time options as read only. You can try resetting the BIOS to its default settings and check if that will fix the issue. Jack_Lenovo

EVERY TIME when i turn on the PC , i got to adjust the date and time , otherwise pc wouldn't turn on . because when i start it , it starts with no DATE AND TIME after every time . DOE S REPLACING the battery like in your video , will solve this issue ?

@@LenovoSupport so , this morning happened again . if i need to replace cmos battery , that means the battery on the motherboard ? if it is that , then it is a battery wrapped in yellow tape . and if it is cr2032 ? do i just take the battery out of the wrap , and put the new one and wrap it ?

Hii , When I turn on the laptop I getting a msg as {"battery1 has failed due to normal wear. The battery can't be charged. Replace the battery."} Instead of this I won't have any issues it's normally working good but iam getting msg like this as above👆.. What can I do now please suggest me

I wish you would use terminology that countries other then the USA could properly understand. The CR 2032 is *not* a backup battery. It is a CMOS battery, frequently called the BIOS battery but backup battery it is NOT! It may provide trickle voltage for the CMOS to keep the BIOS settings when the mains power is disconnected or the laptop battery is flat/run down/exhausted/out of go juice but it does not even back those settings up.
