The Cleons plot was the most interesting plot in the show, I could watch an entire series about them. Terminus was quite boring, even with the conflicts within it. Also, how could the people in Terminus just forgive the anacreons so easily? How they never questioned on how Hari planned his murder and thus the people from terminus ship killed Raych. Gaal going to her home planet was quite a dumb idea, she knew by the time she arrived there, it wouldn't have anything left, now she's stuck there.

Great series. I loved the tension of the exploration of identity within brothers Dawn, Day and Dusk throughout this first series and in the final episode where the soon to murdered brother Dawn asks out loud some of the questions which must have beset each of the clones over the centuries. I'm excited to see what becomes of the dynasty but also excited to see where to next for Gaal Dornick and Salvor Hardin as these two not only have some powers which we are led to believe place them outside of the Psychohistorical picture but they also have the knife that murdered Hari Seldon and seems to contain elements of his consciousness and his device which unfolds the entire psychohistory model. It also seems that Gaal Dornick had earlier found a flaw in Seldon's plan and this may play into future events or it may also be something which Seldon had actually predicted! Either way, things are set up for a fascinating season 2.

@@WiLDCHiLD. what you call problematic, I’ll throw a Harry Sheldon line at you and suggest that in the future mankind, if it survives the insanity of our current times, will look back and say that these where dark and dividing times, that almost tore the world apart. That the people that believed the where doing the most good, where actually the most blindly lead. The reasons given to them, only used to control. Why is it in the modern world, that the people that claim love and compassion for all, will the moment they perceive “wrong” or “problematic” things happening, they will attempt to destroy all involved. Then when they see something so outrageously heinous, as to require action, they will fall silent if they believe that person to fall into their category of human. Why is it that something completely factual, and indisputable, suddenly becomes not so, because someone perceived things differently. Why is it that now we have a large group of people that believe the world is flat, when intelligent scholars discovered it wasn’t centuries ago. The world will not survive this lack of intellectual thinking, and those that see more clearly, and hopefully more compassionately, will step up and help all move forward. The alternative is too horrible to contemplate. This is what clever writers who’s material you call problematic, understood about humanities future.

I know the genetic Dynasty is not in the books but I love the concept. I love the character of Gail I remember the first couple time jumps I didn't even realize it at first. Which is very cool how smooth they were with it. Jared Harris as Harry Selden I mean that man's gold anytime he's on screen let's be honest. Lee paste as brother day he's so Kick-Ass and it's so cool to think since the show started he's played two different versions of brother day. Now with the massive time Jump will get to see Lee Pace plan a new version of brother day in the other actor whose great I don't know his name who plays brother dusk. Don't know who Brother Dawn will be a kid or a teenager. Seriously I'm over the moon about this showing it kind of sad to me that I don't hear that many other people talking about it. Demerzel killed Dawn because she wants the empire to die of its stagnancy. If Dawn lived he would introduce change by not being a perfect clone. It was a power move under the guise of protecting the Empire. But she isn’t supposed to be able to harm an Emperor. Next season will be her face off with Day. But she’s have a running start. Since he’s consumed with grief over his legacy Dawn & his own imperfections. He’ll be doubting himself & fighting with Dusk.

asimov has the robot rules so maybe demerzel as a robot has to take into account the well being of humanity as a whole when choosing to act. demerzel has that line that states her programming means she must be loyal to the cleons. i like her story arc as one of defying this programming by way of robot rules that might supersede the cleonic loyalty programming. spoilers: i think in the books the character is revealed to be involved in the creation of psychohistory and has been guiding humanity on a path for a long time. i'm interested in how the changes to Cleon genes manifest in the next season.

OMG Thank You!! Late to the game for me as I just finished S1. After finishing the latter episodes of S1, it occurred to me, the writers broke with Isaac Asimov's the Three Rules of Robotics (as noted in I, Robot). I was.......disheartened, to say the least. Please accept an additional 'thumbs up' to you for noticing it as well. Going forward with my viewing (if I can stand it), I've created a little game called 'Phrases from the late 20th Century' in the year 12069GE ( 1FW ). In S2e1, there are at least two. They are: 'play it by ear' 'dropped the ball' 'I'll take shotgun' 'up to speed' The above muttered in S1.

So, a few thoughts (I just finished the finale, of course I was behind). I'm a huge fan of the novels, and I get that there had to be some changes. That's inevitable when you adapt a story so long. In addition, so much of the Foundation novels was dialog and internal monologue, it would make for a...well, lets say a very different vibe that would likely not grab the attention of a modern audience. I definitely question some of the decisions though. First, for those not familiar with the novels, the Seldon Crisis in the finale is actually the combination of the first two from the novels (and done very differently). There's going to be a fairly significant plot point from the books that isn't likely to be included (relating to how the Foundation exerts influence over the Periphery). I also question how the Invictus was included into the story. The point of psychohistory, even described in the series, was that it doesn't rely on the actions of individuals; yet that was the ONLY reason the ship ended up where it did. In the novel, the ship was present, and was a plot point, but only in the end to demonstrate the absolute irrelevance of it in the face of the overwhelming actions of the mass of humanity. The ship itself was never important, and all the power it entailed was meaningless, which was precisely the point. I get that they tied in Hardin's special abilities there, but that's exactly the point. Those special abilities were ALL that allowed this apparently essential plot device to manifest. I'm a bit confused as well why the showrunners and writers decided to make Terminus such an absolutely tiny encampment. I mean, budget maybe? But in the novels, Terminus City is at least moderately sized, and there were over 100,000 people sent there at its beginning, to a world that really in the books was practically boring in how ordinary it was. It wasn't the world that was the hazard, it was the neighborhood. A larger, established population would have made their role more believable to my mind. I did like the Empire side of the story, and I think the genetic dynasty has actually played out pretty well in the series, especially as a fulcrum for the coming Fall. Oh, and anyone that's read the novels (and probably quite a few who didn't) might have a good hypothesis as to who might have been the saboteur of said dynasty! If it's who I think, I believe we'll be in for some very interesting storytelling for season 2. For all its issues (and I do have more....Hardin - Dornick baffles me as a plot choice), the series has been fun to watch, and the visuals are just stunning. Looking forward to the next season.

Ah, that "dread" of just how different the screenplay will be different from the source novels! Thanks for the post! I've never read the books, but I had to wonder why individuals ended up as part of the psycho history model.

I enjoyed the season and the storylines were quite interesting and built off each other well. Did like the Brother Dawn storyline the most and was surprised by Brother Day deciding to spare him, wonder what will happen when they awake his clone will Day influence them to gang up on Brother Dusk, feel like there's lots of possibilities and do hope that the Foundation a century later is strong as heck since they've been hidden from the Empire. So much to dig into for season 2!

They do point out that (a) they can scan the memories of dead people and (b) the clones have a neural link to keep them up to date. Maybe the new Brother Dawn will be closer to the old one than they expect. (Unless, of course, Demerzel has other plans up her sleeves)

Some ideas on Demerzel… Dermezel is not the one who "tainted" Cleon's clones; nor, does she have anything to do with any of that. Dermezel is programmed to be loyal to Empire and Cleon I’s idea of perfect copies of himself to rule. Her killing Brother Dawn, despite Brother Day wanting to let him live, is in line with the interests of Cleon I’s original intentions when he decided to clone himself. Dermezel is conflicted because she loves the “Cleons” and does not want to kill any of them. Like she says to Brother Dusk before we see his death, “You always leave me”. In killing Brother Day, she is essentially killing a Cleon that she considers to be like a son and a new iteration of Cleon I, whom she loved dearly. Dermezel discusses how she feels torn by what she wants and what she has to do in her scene with Zephyr Halima. The loss and the constant actions that go against what she truly wants is tearing her apart.

I’m glad I came across this during my first year of college… I’m taking a few cinematography courses, and I’ve been rewatching it several times, and each time I’ve noticed something different. It’s amazing just how much other sci-fi films have been influenced by it, including all of the Star Wars films(ex. midichlorians & Empire’s nanobots, Salvor’s visions & Force visions) and Dune. Here’s a pitch: Hari’s equation (“designed to predict the outcome of very large groups of individuals,” Hari Seldon, Episode 1) is a reference to the butterfly effect.

I am hooked... love this show and story. It's a challenge to keep up with the timelines of the clone emperors since they're identical, but great story. I've read very hostile reviews of this show by nerd fans of the books. their chief complaint is the director turning it into Star Wars with the planet killing Invictus ship.

I totally agree. This could be a great epic and as it matures into the seasons, hopefully having the finances to continue to the end of Goyer’s adaptation, I could see this to overtake game if thrones easily but I doubt that it will have the fanfare as Thrones has as that was ripe for followers to get addicted to it. Who knows, if Goyer can keep it up all the way through to the end of his take in Asimov’s Foundation then it can compete to that level and even surpass it. Just keep the viagra by your side Goyer and keep it up.

@@Chris-ey7zy that’s true. It was the same for me and fantasy series’. I didn’t watch GoT till about the 5th season as I just kept dismissing it for just that reason, fantasy is not my cup of tea, wizards, warlock‘s and witches never did anything for me, not even a semi, well apart from some raunchy scenes in GoT. But the setting of the story never had me interested, what got me is the story. Sci-fi on the other hand is my cup of tea, especially when they don’t steer too far from reality. Foundation seems a very likely future, maybe exaggerated for cinematic effect but generally grounded in a possible future. No matter what the setting of the story is, so long as there is a good story it can capture non sci-fi fans over time.

I absolutely, positively loved this first season of Foundation. I totally tip my to the Apple TV for going all out and creating such an exciting show. I actually started wondering… Why isn't the world talking about this show like they did Game Of Thrones?? Because, to me, it's right up there with GOT. And then it hit me… No ultraviolence, gore, blood or nudity. Just an incredible science-fiction story. So it makes me wonder… If Foundation added ultraviolence, gore, blood and nudity… Would the world then be acknowledging it right up there with GOT???
