In this video I will restore about 200 year old corner chair from Sweden. These are called also powder chairs, from the time when hair powdering was popular. The work took much more time, than I was prepared for. Was the result worth it? Let me know in the comments.

The fake wood effect really works when you do everything with that technique! I was surprised by how fake and bad it looked when you first started, but then altogether it tricks you into thinking it's real wood! Nicely done!

Oh thank you so much for rescuing this chair! I don`t want to know how many furnitures have been additionally damaged by this strange fashion trend called "shabby chic" where people developed the idea that old furniture could be improved by painting them with a completely improper white paint. It makes me happy to see such craftsmen like you who knows how it really works.
@BrooksMoses
@BrooksMoses 28 күн бұрын
Indeed -- but the "shabby chic" trend has damaged the old furniture far less than many trends that had the idea that old furniture could be improved by throwing it away and buying new. With so many of these things, I try to keep in mind that everyone who took an old piece of furniture and painted it some color-of-the-month and put it to use was someone who kept it out of the trash for another few decades, and without them we often wouldn't have the piece at all.

I say this for the entire package: competence, brilliance, the work you do almost like perfect magic. Not to mention the excellent quality of your videos without those unnecessary distractions like landscapes, pets, conversations or boring explanations, tasteless music, etc. Your work is almost magical, your sensitivity when dealing with any piece is enviable. I saw a similar rattan chair from Vienna that was dated to the 1780s. Without a really fine investigation of the wood used, my guess is that this is a chair from the early 1800s. The interesting feature is the falling front seat of the chair, which is a highly unusual feature and unseen in later chairs. Excellent restoration in the full form of the word. Thank you!
