I survived my first keto thanksgiving by fasting for 18hrs before the big meal, than eat a full thanksgiving dinner and started again the next day. It worked, I lost 3# since then.

My psychological trick is going carnivore for whatever amount of days I can manage. So by the tme i go back to keto it feels like a luxury and I'm spoiling myself. The added bonus is a few quick kilo or two loss as well.

I asked what the menu was going to be for thanksgiving! I made sure I had something keto to fill in because EVERYTHING except the turkey was carbs! I are ONE bite of each….dressing, corn, cheesy potatoes, and cranberries. It was fine. I know not everyone is okay with one bite, I’m lucky in that 😊

That's what I did too Vicki. But it was more like 1 teaspoon of everything and I loaded up on the turkey.

I've been on strict under 20 gram ketovore for 20 months. At thanksgiving this year I gave myself permission to have a couple of bites of a no crust, not overly sweet cheesecake. Now I can't say I've never cheated, but not beating myself up over it. Staying strict keto is definitely a mind set. I watch and enjoy all of your videos, but recreating the foods that got me into trouble in the first place doesn't work for me. However, it's a great comfort to know that if there ever is something I really want you guys will have figured out how to make it. Good luck to everyone over the holiday season :D (edited to add: Your suggestions are all terrific)

I have lost 128 lbs in a year doing low carb (not keto) and I get the comment all the time, "Once isn't going to hurt you," or "You can have a cheat day" or "Oh well, it's a holiday". I just usually say , "yeah" and move on and eat what I am going to eat - which occasionally IS that slice of pizza they ordered delivered for everyone, or to accommodate others who want to stop for pizza (unplanned while we're out), but then I get home and get right back on my low carb because I watch your channel and others like it who teach me how to cook the foods I want but low carb. (which includes even better pizza 😁) Thanks so much for all your tips and test kitchening!

This wouldn’t be for everyone, but an example of a holiday tradition that doesn’t involve food is a Thanksgiving “Turkey Trot” which could be walked, not run, and family members could do it together. It helps if you start thinking of yourself as an active person even if you never have been one. And when people ask what you are doing for the holiday, imagine when you get to say “I’m doing a 5k turkey trot”!

This is my first holiday on Keto. It is definitely a lifestyle choice. I have lost some weight and I think people are jealous of my weight loss and look to sabotage me. I remain steadfast in my Keto journey. For Thanksgiving, I got the turkey and a spoonful of the other foods. When you consume the protein first, it helps keep the carbs at bay. That way, I could say I tried the food.

Those were my five days, too, plus all the other days in-between!! My history with low carb/keto mirrors yours, too!! A few years ago, after losing 40 lbs. for the umpteenth time, I concentrated on creating keto treats using a variety of sugar substitutes for the holiday period. It was the first time in my life that I was able to get through it without cheating or gaining weight!! It worked!! However, as always, my success on low carb/keto was limited as my sugar addiction would always end up overpowering me at some point and I’d gain back most of what I’d lost and have to start over. In 2022, I discovered the Carnivore way of eating and started that. By taking all sweetness out of my diet, I was able the rid myself of my cravings and sugar addiction!! I know it sounds so extreme, but the freedom I feel at not having that monkey on my back is soooo worth it!!! I don’t miss sweetness at all and am a much happier and content person. I understand about traditions and all, so I just have homemade eggnog without the sweetness. I love crème brûlée and ice cream that way, too. My whole outlook has changed so that I don’t want any sweetness as it’s just not good for my health and I want to continue feeling as well as I do now, without the six drugs I was on for various health ailments. I can be around anything and everything without any twinge of longing because of how well I feel. I’m careful not to say anything to others because I don’t want to ruin their good time. I just thank God that I’ve been delivered from my addiction, as I’m an abstainer not a moderator. That being said, for those who are moderators or are wondering which they are, following the keto way and using sugar substitutes to make their holiday faves is a great way to stay the course and make it through this long season. I sure wish I could, like I did that one year, but alas, it’s not for me, Thanks for a great video that covers a variety of topics on how to successfully navigate through the season and come out on the other end happy and without the dreaded weight gain!! ❤❤❤

I think I may be in the same boat. Often, once I have something sweet ( KETO or regular, but regular is much more difficult), I crave more and it's really difficult to control. Do you also skip low carb fruit such as berries? Do you eat low carb veggies?
@luanneneill2877
@luanneneill2877 6 ай бұрын
@@jeannielamarca4918 I'm strictly carnivore. I eat meat (mostly beef), eggs, and butter- that's it. I also have a decaf once a week with heavy cream, when my husband and I go out do coffee. I never get tired of what I eat. I hate to cook, so this way of eating is right up my alley!! Because I feel so relieved and grateful to be free of my sugar addiction, I never waver when it comes to sweetness. In fact I love egg custard and creme brulee without the sweetness. Creme brulee is so creamy delicious!! Look up Dr. Ken Berry, Dr. Anthony Chaffee, Dr. Shawn Baker, Judy Cho (Nutrition by Judy), Kelly Hogan, Laura Sapth, and many others in the carnivore community. I belong to Steak and Butter Gal's community, so check her out, too. She got a great community!!

I am one of those people who cannot eat artificial sweeteners except for in very few products. Perfect example is choc zero products. They have been a game changer for me! But my point of bringing this up is that I love that you say technically keto because I am technically keto even though I eat things like fruit or berries or honey. However, and to one of the points of your video, you can eat things like honey, as long as you keep portion sizes under the carb amount. A perfect example for me is a berry vinaigrette with honey. Homemade of course! Bottom line is to NOT punish myself and enjoy what I'm eating WHILE being responsible. Love you two and your videos!!! 🙏

I eat what I want on the holiday day, then go back to my low carb lifestyle. I try really hard not to overeat and if the scales go up a pound or two, I step back and look at the big picture at how much weight I’ve already lost. By the way, I’ve lost 120 pounds over the last 2 years. One or two pounds does not make a huge difference in the long run. I’m also super dedicated to weighing every single week without fail. It keeps me accountable. I’ve been able to find low carb substitutions that make up for “normal” foods I used to eat all the time. I’ve also found a lot of new foods I really enjoy. It’s been a pretty incredible journey.

I love these kinds of videos. I remember I was going to my friends daughters birthday party. And I made sure I ate before we went. Because I know they were having pizza. I remember My friend's mom was all like ( I was on keto. It's OK you can have one slice of pizza it won't hurt you.) Yeah right they'll kick me right out of ketosis. Once I get kicked out it's so hard for me to get back into it. It's not worth it to cheat at all. And that same friend always says you've lost the wait you can go off of keto. And then I gained the weight right back. And people never understand for Thanksgiving all I eat is the vegetables and the Turkey.

Since even before I went keto...I have never liked pie (except chicken); I don't like sweet potato casserole, or stuffing, or mac and cheese and didn't before I went keto. I have always brought a big salad to these family dinners and will continue to do so. I also made Carolyn Ketchum's Pecan Pie Cheesecake last year and everyone said I could bring that again(!). I just remind my family that I didn't eat this stuff before I went keto.

Great advice, thanks so much. My first Keto Thanksgiving I brought a sugar free dessert because I knew that's where my weakness would be. I allowed myself 1/4 of my plate for 1-3 sm bites of carb items (mashed potato, stuffing, corn casserole, squash) and also brought carbmaster dinner rolls. Discovered that the carb stuff didn't taste like i remembered it, and did not want more. Having a strategy really worked, didnt feel deprived, and was able to do my regular keto choices the next day and stay on track.

Great video ladies. I usually don't overindulge over the holidays at all, but if I want a piece of pie, cake or a dessert, I am gonna have it. I never deny myself at all. Everything in moderation, but most of the time I stay under 20 carbs per day. It has worked well for me over the last 4 years and I intend to eat technically keto for the rest of my life and it is pretty easy to stick to.

Another comment… Emily is so right about feeling awful after Thanksgiving dinner. I gave up sugar in May 2021. I don’t eat dessert…if I did I would have such a sugar rush. I don’t miss dessert, except cheesecake or creme brûlée. At special meals, I allow a few bites. At a holiday meal, fill your plate with meat, veggies, salad, HB eggs - and maybe a small serving of mashed potatoes. Skip all servings that are wheat, corn and rice based. Don’t talk about how you eat. I have a holiday luncheon at a favorite restaurant… I’ll have a salad, shrimp, a veggie and a baked potato. Ok…one baked potato in the last 6 months. This will be my only meal of the day and the next day, I am back on low carb.

Great tips! They look like all would work for me, especially filling the gullet and I'll be having seconds. No issues with my family, but my one big social dinner. Every meeting there are comments about how thin I've become since reaching my goal, (I'm down over 50# in 9 months). I've started saying that I'm at my "fighting weight". That's especially fitting for me since I'm a USMC veteran and weigh exactly the same as I did 40+ years ago when I was serving.

I decided i didn't want to bring attention to myself by bringing a bunch of low carb sides and dessert to my son's house on Thanksgiving. I decided to have a taste of everything i wanted. I even ate a sample sliver of 5 different pies with real whipped cream. I went back to my regular eating routines the next day. I had been on a plateau and for 3 weeks the scale didn't budge. A week after Thanksgiving , on my weigh in day, i couldn't believe I lost 4 lbs!! I felt like going off Keto for 1 day actually "rebooted " my metabolism. Is that even possible?

I am off right now but trying to get my motivation to start back up but then I'm thinking oh it's only a couple weeks till Christmas I should wait till after. I have to figure out a way to stop yo-yo and you guys are great I like how real you are you don't sugar coat anything and you say exactly as it is when you feel you say it like we're a lot of these channels they only tell you the good stuff and they don't talk about the struggles. ❤

Great tips guys! We always make cheesecake every year for our family Thanksgiving. I made my keto version and didn't even feel deprived. I made mine the same flavor as theirs and it was easy! I always try to stay ahead, but sometimes get caught off guard and not prepared. That's when my strength has to come in!

Thank you, this is so helpful. It’s almost like I make myself a victim to no choice…. But eating ahead of time is definitely a game changer.

Thank you for a honest realistic approach to keto and the holidays. I watch all of your videos. For me, vegetarian keto is a bit more challenging. That said, I get lots of ideas from your channel and really appreciate your content. Thank you for keeping it real!

These are all great tips. Another great one is to remind myself that nothing tastes as good as being a normal weight feels!

You brought tears, more than once, thank you so so much. I had decided THIS MORNING to make those Christmas Cookies that have been in our family forever...so much of our memories are around food.

Thank you! Love all the tips! Will try the stuffing too! I bought a turkey before Thanksgiving when they were on sale, froze it because I went to visit my sister & her family and she loves to cook, but they fry their turkey and i wanted a stuffed baked turkey... So now I'll stuff it with your recipe! Thanks again! Going to watch that video now! Have a good one!!

When I go to family gatherings or to friends for a meal, I will have a small spoonful of the foods I usually do not eat ( carbs)- and I load on the meats and greens /veggies. I'll have that dessert but have just a spoonful of it... usually desserts are too sweet for me so that is no issue. But I have practice negotiating meals at friends and family since I had been vegetarian- vegan for almost 25 years and have eaten my share of carrots, celery, and green peppers! It's all good! Thank you for the pointers- people need assistance just like this!❤
