Nha they're made for that. Use your engine as a brake and save your brakes for when you need them... You can burn your brakes down on 1 big hill. Then, not only do you not have brakes but, your hubs over heat and burn up the seals and bearings. Use the engine brake, its what it's made for.
@CS-qc7np
@CS-qc7np 2 жыл бұрын
WTF? Who wants to 🔥 out brakes and then can’t 🛑 at all?! Real drivers know to let the engine do a lot of the work! “So what is the point of engine braking for truck drivers? In most cases, it is an effective braking method, creating massive amounts of force. This can extend the life of friction brakes and help drivers maintain better control of their rig. For example, it might be an advantage when driving down a steep or long slope.” Some states consider it noise pollution, but in our state it is allowed.

if you drop a couple gears on your gear selector while going down a big hill it will keep you at a slower speed and you won’t have to use your brakes and wear them out
@mikeskoczylas1571
@mikeskoczylas1571 2 жыл бұрын
this is untrue. im guessing you have never pulled a heavy trailer before. when you go down a hill with weight behind you, you actually gain more speed the heavier you are. downshifting will help a little bit, no doubt. but its simple physics you will still gain speed in a low gear and/or you will over rev the piss out of your motor if you dont maintain the speed with your brakes. you can tell in his video by the sound of the motor he was in a low gear and it was probably at redline or higher. you still have to use your service brakes.
@cjeam9199
@cjeam9199 2 жыл бұрын
@@mikeskoczylas1571 All the exhaust brake does is increase the effectiveness of the engine braking, you’re still relying on it not mechanically over speeding the engine. It sounds to me like there was a way to go before redline.

@mikescott5320 2 жыл бұрын
@@cjeam9199 i can almost guarantee his truck was damn near redline and if it wasnt, he was heavy on his service brakes. Exhaust brake is just that- an exhaust/turbo brake. @cjeam9199
@cjeam9199 2 жыл бұрын
@@mikescott5320 an exhaust brake still is just increasing engine braking effectiveness by increasing back pressure. It might do that fantastically well but you could still conceptually redline the engine. You’re right though my vehicle is older, so when I’m using engine braking to descend a hill it’s waaaay noisier than this so maybe he’s closer to redline than I reckon.

I love how guys that never drove an 18-wheeler talk like engine brakes are the end all be all. You are taught how to gear down because there are times when you cannot use an engine brake. You definitely should not use it in slippery conditions or at least on a low setting. The brakes between the tractor and trailer have plenty of power to slow you down, but you do have one less axle so there is that.

Let me fill you in on something here bro. Being a hotshot driver for a long time.. Obviously your owner operator. Good pre-trip inspections and preventive maintenance are going to save your ass. I replace my brakes once a year, all the way around. Too cheap of a part not to service to be stuck on the side of the road with problems. They can get hot and glaze. Learn to do all your own work, as far as all maintenance and repairs on your rig. Brake fluid is hydroscopic meaning it absorbs water from the air. Don't eat out of the restaurants. Get an auxiliary tank. Keep your speed down. And get rid of that shitbox ford. Get something with a manual transmission. That thing sounds like it's not happy. I got an old 2006 ram 3500. Manual trans. She's got well over a half a million miles on her. Been nothing but loyal. Got a Hensley TS3 trailer saver hitch with overload brackets I made myself. 150 gallon per hour fass pump, fuel air separator system. you will need to look into one of those. With all the crappy gas stations that are out there. Along with the stock pump cannot supply the amount of pressure these diesels need over the longevity of your truck. You will end up burning up injector pumps and injectors before too long but the money. 105 gallon auxiliary tank, fill up on that cheap diesel when you can. Converted the back bench to a bed so I don't have to pay for hotel.

If you want to play trucker, get a CDL and use a use a commercial rig to haul, quit using a pick up to do the job of a commercial truck, especially an automatic I understand that a manual transmission is probably out of your league

32,000# and a truck and trailer like that lol, instead of calling them "hot shots" they need to name them "dipstick". I haul 30,000 and 56,000 in either dry van or cattle trailers.

Thanks for putting the public let alone your family at risk driving that load in those conditions with that equipment. Your why the Department of Transportation with their stringent safety rules exists because irresponsible people put profit over the lives of people..... I can see you driving that broken death rig without sleep for couple days and end up killing a large family along tje road changing a flat tire by running to them at full speed then claim it was an accident ... This whole video you know what the hazard your risking. and go with luck and chance as your safety guild......btw...your supposed to be professional..your license shouldn't need to be "dug up"..

It not design to haul all that weight!! You over load it yeah it’s going to break. I think it’s all that weight and spin it around on all weight tends to break springs 🛑 jackknifing it !! The weight should be equally distributed out through the trailer state of having one heavy spot for the truck probably drove like crap bunking the while way there !!
