I too am very intrigued! As a Brit, we always look at food from the USA as "full of crap". Abbey is the first person I've actually heard counteract that. Very interested in the different regulation systems and would love to know why the EU choose to approach it this way compared to the USA. Especially from Abbey, as I trust what she says is based on sound science. The dose makes the poison but what if you eat these types of foods regularly, could that become a poisonous dose? Is that why the EU have a stricter policy? Ofc I am British so I am biased and naturally assume that the EU do it better haha sorry!
@LeapThroughTheSky
@LeapThroughTheSky Жыл бұрын
As an American who lives in Europe, it's basically equal. I would say that the US has far more variety of different products, so there is more "junk" food due to there being more brands in general. Also, Europe kind of will get scared of anything new. A decade ago everyone became afraid of tapioca due to reports of cancer and it basically shut down all bubble tea places. But in the last few years they've popped up again. I'd just say, Europe doesn't necessarily know anything more. They might have some stricter standards, but also just less likely to accept new things without a lot of testing first. And the public is just as likely to overreact as the American one.

Too good to be true? "What I eat in a day" hits me more as choosing the lowest calorie options that she eats on a regular basis for each meal. So her lowest calorie breakfast choice, lowest lunch, lowest dinner, and then not showing or eating that day any snacks. If I take Monday's breakfast, Tuesday's lunch, and Thursday's dinner and skip any snacks I can end up with 1200 calories too even though normally I'm at 1800. This reminds me of the guy who "ate nothing for years and survived on air". Riiiigght.

i had restrictive habits and I could exercise a lot more back then than I do now when I have a healthy relationship with food. The human body is capable of far more than you think with enough motivation, in some cases the motivation coming from body dysmorphia and self esteem issues.

Good lord… she eats exactly how I did when my orthorexia and fear of calories were both at their worst. All very clean, no oils, ESPECIALLY that low calorie but high protein vegetable soup (that was a staple on days I felt especially uncomfortable with food) and the fixation on all macros, protein being the only “safe” macro. Goodness I hope she’s okay. Also I’m not calling Daisy a liar about the ketchup but it seems strange to me that she’d not feel good after eating something that you usually only eat like, a tablespoon or two of. It could be psychosomatic if she believes that the ingredients are “bad”. Or just guilt/a feeling of impurity.

I still 100% prefer the hazard approach, might be because I've always lived in Europe. I think it triggers EDs a lot less, especially orthorexia, because if you know your food has already been meticulously regulated, you're naturally less inclined to hyper-check all the ingredients yourself. I've always taken it for granted that I could trust the food I ate, but thinking back about it, I'm grateful for that

@kennyb1588
@kennyb1588 Жыл бұрын
@@depressedcockroach4045 ppl are obese here because our nutritional education isn’t highly accessible and controlled by the food industry.also most of the unhealthy foods you see pushed have better options sitting right next to them in grocery stores. Plus things like food deserts exist here where in lower income communities they won’t put a grocery store but load it with fast food options and won’t have a grocery store for several towns and cities over. These communities are also less likely to have people who have cars to get to the far away grocery stores and often work more than 1 job making them more likely to choose to eat fast food due to its accessibility. Trust me as someone who grew up with parents who were athletes it’s easy to be healthy here when you have access and knowledge but there’s a lot of intentional choices made by higher powers that makes healthy eating not accessible for everyone.

Seed oils in all the studies have shown that they are bad for you. Companies use them because they are dirt cheap. US food regulations are in general profits over people (to a point). Don't buy into the marketing. Extra virgin olive oil is much higher quality. No you shouldn't be having high fructose corn syrup. While in ketchup it might be ok because you don't much of it, have you seen how much soda people consume? The reason for the insanely high obesity rate in the US is not "social media influencers". It's the lack of exercise and terrible food that is marketed in people's faces all day.

All of this extremely low calorie intake is a terrible idea. I know, I did this in my 20s. I have pcos. It wasn’t until I started tracking my meals and watched what really helped me with my weight that I found out I needed to eat a lot more than 1200 stupid calories. If I eat less than 1600 per day my body temperature goes down ( I feel very cold) and I feel exhausted all the time.

It scares me to think how just a few years ago I was eating 1300 calories a day... Like the amount I would need at a minimum if I was in a coma :/ I’m so glad I am no longer bound to food fear! I’m now eating about 2200+ calories (this probably varies day to day because I don’t actually track my caloric intake). My health has changed drastically, I am so much healthier now and I have maintained my weight at the lower end of a healthy BMI. I’m so thankful to no longer be bound by the chains of caloric restriction!

This takes me back to the days where I'd only use "unprocessed" Himalayan sea salt because of the miniscule, barely traceable amount of minerals it provided over regular table salt. But I don't know why it even mattered since I wasn't allowing myself to salt my food the way I wanted to anyway, because salt makes you retain every ounce of water on your body 😱🙄 Thank you, Abbey, you are a gem, and we need you now more than ever. Another reason ingredients in the same brand of a food are different in different countries is because for whatever reason they just use a different recipe. E.g. in the US things often have high fructose corn syrup because corn is such a huge (and subsidised for some reason) crop there, but in other countries like UK and NZ they use other sweeteners like good old sugar. I think they also change them based on what they perceive as the local palette.
