"You can sue anyone, at any time... for any reason." - Legal Eagle So, in the US, where you are required to pay legal fees regardless of the outcome of the lawsuit, coupled with social media and public opinion not believing in due process; has created an environment where wealthy people who are morally bankrupt have many incentives to sue people. Even if the judge dismisses the case, it often causes more financial damage to the target of the lawsuit than themselves. Thus, some could view this as a legally sanctioned form of extortion or bullying people... albiet with extra steps and often not very lucrative.

The best part is to sue someone for defamation you have to prove that what they said wasn't true so if it's found out that it is true in discovery that's a big problem for you and if it is true but you don't disclose it and discovery that's an even bigger problem

The issue is the legal fees you get hit with before you even get to that point, in the vid, it mentions this rattle guy is having trouble even getting a lawyer, and if that's the case, all it takes is 1 misstep in filing stuff with the court and it could easily hurt him big time, one of the reasons you pay a lawyer so much is because they know how to navigate the legal minefield to get you into the court to begin with

In most places, defamation requires both knowing that what you’re saying is untrue and saying it anyway with intent to cause harm. That’s why it’s hard to sue for defamation. Not to mention that a lot of states have anti-SLAPP laws. So I see this getting thrown out without supporting evidence to prove defamation is likely before they’ll take it.
