You missed the best part! Loki shapeshifted into a woman after Thor was in the dress. Loki could have made himself look like Freya from the beginning, but the idea of getting Thor to dress like a woman was too funny an idea for him to pass up.

The shapeshifting rules are not universal when it comes to these ancient stories. Thor also has the ability to shapeshift, but it's seldom used in the stories.

In the version i learned, when Thor discovered that his hammer was missing, he didn't cry out for Loki first thing because he needed his help, but because his first assumption was that Loki was the one who stole it.

Did he call Loki Thor's brother. Loki isn't Thor's brother he is instead his uncle, being a blood brother of Thor's father Odin the all father, no matter what marvel tells you Loki and Thor aren't siblings, and though love this series and channel. I'm glad they made Thor a ginger, and made him a really buff man but I bet everyone's heard this before.

That's right Loki was actually Odin's blood brother. But then again he and Thor were more like brothers so I guess it's easy to mistaken them for brothers.

I like how Gaiman put it: whenever there was trouble in Asgard, Thor would always seek out Loki first thing. Because either Loki would know how to solve it, or he’d caused it in the first place.

Loki is also Odins adopted son so he could be counted as the brother of Thor who is also Odins son. Not by blood but by adoption.

The only incorrect part of this is Thor's threat; Thor would rather use his own fingers to gouge out eyes. And he'd rather literally wring Loki like a wet towel and shatter all his bones, than gouge out his eyes. He was certainly strong enough to do it, too.

Loki's sassy poses in this episode killed me, especially 5:23 This is one of my favorite Norse myths (my parents are big classics nerds, so I grew up with tales of Greek and Norse mythology instead of the more typical fairy tales). As others have mentioned, Loki is a shapeshifter, so he easily could have disguised *himself* as Freya instead of Thor, or even cast an illusion over Thor, but instead, he put the burliest, most macho of the gods in a dress and just laughed his ass off as the Frost Giants failed to notice the extremely obvious ruse. Not often you get myths that are pretty much just straight comedies. Well, except for all the murder at the end. This *is* still a Norse myth, after all.

A mortal had the best horse the universe and was building a wall around Asgard as a (thought to be impossible) challenge. He had one week and the gods cheted on the 4th and 5th days without sucess ... then Loki shapeshifted into a "hot" mare ("fucking furries", I guess) to seduce the horse ... let's say he *seduced* a little too much

In the retelling I read: when Thor noticed his hammer had been stolen the first think he asked himself was if Loki was responsible. Then after decicing that not even Loki would steal his hammer, Thor did the secound thing he always did when something eas wrong. He went to Loki and ask for advice. I think it sums up their relationship pretty well

I would say it depends on the exact stories. You got to remember these stories weren't concrete like christianity eventually became. With how most of the stories are structured it would appear Loki is a brother, as he is treated as an equal peer to Thor. If your region didn't know or recognize the versions of the stories where Loki was Odin's brother not Thor's you might believe that instead the two are indeed brothers. We see this with Greek and Egyptian gods, one story two gods are siblings, others spouses, others unrelated, and still others they are parent and child or all of those at once.

My personal headcanon ever since being told this story as a child has always been that Loki was deliberately fucking with Thor by having him put on a dress, when he himself posseses the power to shapeshift at will

Maybe. But Loki would not have been able to escape with the hammer if he went alone. Loki could actually have been impregnated by the frost giant if he was forced to remain as a woman. One way or another Thor had to go to the Frost Giants and he had to be under a veil to diguise himself, which means Thor had to appear as Freya.

because Loki is Thor's adopted brother in some canons of Norse mythology; It's not exclusively in the depiction of the Marvel films. Norse myths are different depending on the origins and sources, and many myths were lost to time or by the Christianization of the Norse. In this myth specifically, Loki is normally described as being Thor's brother.

@@Pikazilla They've only ever been brothers in the MCU and media derived/getting their info from them. The sagas and the Eddas have never said that they were brothers. Loki is Odin's blood brother, not his son or adopted son.

I love the idea of Thor dressing up as freyja and forced to deal with a horny giant but it’s also sad that we didn’t get the other side of the story where freyja her self goes and when the giant gives her Thor’s hammer she does the exact same thing Thor did but with Thor’s hammer to set an example

One nitpick, Loki isn't Thor's brother, adopted or otherwise. He's Odin's brother by blood by oath.

Loki was not Thor's brother I have to say this. Loki was the blood brother of Odin (no blood relation). Upon their oath they promised each other never to drink or dine without the other, though that oath is almost always usually forgotten lol

Loki is not Thor's brother. Loki is the son of Farbauti and Laufey, and the brother of Helbindi and Byleistr. Thor is son of Odin and brother of Baldr, Vidarr and Vali.

In the version I read, Loki suggested the plan as a joke, and then Heimdall suggested it seriously. the Aesir were skeptical of the plan at first, but went along with it since Heimdall could see the future.

Personally, i prefer Neil Gaiman, especially how he does Freya’s words: Freya: “You may not have my cloak.” Loki: “Thor’s hammer is missing, I need to find it.” Freya; “I’ll get you the cloak” Absolute gold.

*sigh* Loki. Was not. Thor's. BROTHER. He was Odin's 'blood-brother' or 'bond-brother', someone brought into the family by an oath. Marvel comics are not the best of research sources.

@Suppertimepuss2 the norse gods are real. They've dug up actual statues from the ground from people who knew them centuries ago. There are people who worship the norse gods today. Just because Jack Kirby and Larry Lieber made up a comic book inspired by norse myths doesn't elevate the comic books to a "telling."

That was really awesome! Thor and Loki aren't brothers in the myths though. The idea that Thor and Loki are brothers is a Marvel's Thor exclusive. It is Odin and Loki that are blood brothers.

I do not mind that Marvel Comics rewrote the story. We do that with stories. I do mind that people do not know the difference. We should teach the history not the comic!

I hope you plan on covering another story about the time another giant lord used some illusions to make fools of Loki and Thor. Also, it's not surprising how frequently in these Norse legends we get an antagonist who would try to get the hand in marriage of the beautiful Frey twins only to fail (though there was that one time when they targeted the goddess in charge of the apples of youth)

Idk much about the Norse but this seems real similar to the assassins creed story, with Loki wearing the dress and “the builder” being the giants name, with the kiss and also the fasting part
