Bro I hear you. Dming can be hard and most ppl I know who dm don’t like running games with other dms as players (which I can get). This really scratches that itch for me. Also, yes! #homebreweverything

@@TBLReady I'm cool with that. But I noticed that once I got on the DM seat and then go play as a player, I tend to hold back and let the party go wild and will assist instead of doing something that will take the spotlight lol

That is an awesome skill. It’s one I’ve been working on. I love adding a good bit of flare to the table and want to start playing more background roles like cleric and rogue in the future to become more like you when I play.

Very cool, get after it. It’s a great way to start, especially if you get social nerves. There’s no pressure and unless you tell GPT to do so, no one is holding you to follow any rules but your own

@@TBLReady i will share my results when I begin. Socialization was an aspect I looked forward to. However, finding a group locally or free of charge can be troublesome. Understandable as DM requires effort, if good, can understand the exchange.

Yeah I always feel for people in those situations. I’ve been overly lucky. I live in a city with a lot of friends who play and my cousins have been into it for a long time so I’ve always had a group. That being said, the games I play in came to an end so I only DM now. GPT has helped me scratch the player itch big time. I hope it does the same for you. Looking forward to hearing about it.

@@TBLReady the dreaded curse of being a very experienced player mixed with fantastic storytelling. Who else would DM?! I can't blame them. Because of that we have received this wonderful channel. Perhaps, one of those friends/family will take it upon themselves to learn in order to free up you a place as a player in a group once again 🙌

Oh nice! I’d say go for it. Just be careful, it does make errors in character sheets on occasion. So just check it’s work beforehand

@@TBLReady I tried it and found GPT often conflated characters with one another, told me what my character was doing when I told it not to and even swapped my character with one of the NPCs in the middle of the story.

Yeah it’s been really odd lately and doing a lot more of this that it used to. If you are early enough in the story I’d restart. It’s easier to edit a hood chat sequence than to fox one that isn’t working for you. The first two I tried needed so much feedback, the third and fourth were near perfect and only needed minimal suggestions. The starting prompt is important to edit. If it’s swapping characters maybe include “prioritize continuity and remembering character and narrative details” I’ll try a couple things out in my end and see if i can replicate this issue and find a solution.

I’d start a new chat and start off telling it “You are an expert dungeon master with all the relevant knowledge to run a 5th (or whatever you’d like) edition campaign” then continue as you normally would. Also make sure you aren’t asking if it can do a thing, instead just tell it to

Yeah it get real picky for some people. It’s really a matter of trying to rephrase in a different way so it can reinterpret the input. A new chat might be worth it. Try something along the lines of “I will speak for and make all decisions for ____. Refer to me for all of ____’s dialog and decisions. You as the expert dungeon master will create, control and speak for everyone else in the world but never for ____.” Before combat I usually let it know we are about to enter combat saying [combat is about to begin. Use all of the 5e rules for combat. I will dictate to you all of _____’s turns and you will control all enemies, npcs and ally’s. Let’s roll initiative] it will allow you to stop the chat in its tracks if it start narrating combat away. You can even just hit the regenerate button. Sometime it will remember the rules the second go of it.

It has memory. You need to make an account so it’ll keep all your conversations. Each conversation is saved kind of like in a messaging app. It’s good to note that as of now you can’t cross reference your chats. So Thorogan doesn’t exist to the GPTDM in Rhys’s game.

That’s a great idea! I can do that. I’ll update the descriptions this weekend to have the command prompts so people can copy and paste them. Give me till the weekend as good and done though. I’ll start at the latest video and work my way backwards.

Yep that can happen. I find it helpful to give it prompt updates right before doing something I haven’t already described well. So when I’m going through a dungeon crawl I say something along the lines of. “[While in this area I want you to treat it like a dungeon crawl. Give me options of which directions I can go. Each selection should result in an encounter. Encounters can include: combat, social encounters, loot, puzzles or no encounter. Continue this until I reach ____.]”
