TIG Welding F6/F4 | 6G Welding Test !
Pipe welding is considered one of the more difficult processes for welders to master.
Performing a TIG welding test on a 2" XX Heavy Wall pipe requires specific skills and knowledge. It is important to ensure that the TIG welding machine is set up correctly and that the tungsten electrode is sharpened properly. Additionally, the filler rod must be selected based on the composition of the base metal.
Stick welding on heavy wall pipe requires a skilled welder with experience in welding on heavy wall pipe. The process requires a high amperage setting to penetrate the thick wall and requires the use of the correct electrode size and type. The performance of the stick weld test on a 2" XX Heavy Wall pipe is also typically evaluated based on factors such as the quality of the weld bead, the penetration into the base metal, and the overall strength and integrity of the weld.
In both cases, the specific requirements for the weld will depend on the application and intended use of the pipe, as well as any applicable codes and standards that must be met. It is important to ensure that the weld meets all necessary requirements to ensure a strong, reliable weld.

I've always been great at stick, but only ever tig welded food grade tube. Years ago, I did pass one combo test after weeks of practice. I've been watching all of your heavy wall videos lately to wrap my head back around the root pass, as I need to get some weld certs so I can take welder calls I've been fitting pipe for the last decade, but every once in a while there are no pipefitter calls, but 10 welder calls. I'm going tomorrow to do a few test coupons, then hopefully I'll test on Saturday. Either way I dig your content, and appreciate your film angles as well as the little tips. With that said your stick cap is nothing to be ashamed of, it looks fine to me. Edit: the only thing I would have done different stick wise is stagger your stops a bit at the 12 oclock

Very interesting video, so many important points for welders to learn and compare. In the future i have to try crossing my hands like that, and put my head up side down, to try and see if i can weld the root like that by using my right hand for the torch from 6 to 3 o clock. 🤓 Also, that Hoddie rocks! 🎸💥 👍 I whish it was avaliable for ordering in the Balkans, is that possibile ?

*👀Another great video. I haven't tested to a Tig/Stick procedure for 20 years. I tested at at both Local 488 and Local 496 and at that time they only allowed you to run the root and the hot pass with Tig and then you had to switch to Stick for all Fills and the Cap. Did they change the procedure? Also, I am curious as to what the P Number range is on your ticket for this test. I called the Hall and was told this test will also qualify you for Chrome.. Back in the day to qualify for Chrome you had to test with 80 wire and Fill and Cap with 8018 which would also qualify you for Carbon. Recently I spoke with an Inspector and was told that this test will in fact now cover you for Chrome and the P Number range will be P 1-15 (Carbon is P-1 and Chrome is P 2-4 depending on percentage of Chromium). This seems odd to me as P 1 through P15 would include P8 which is the designation for Stainless. The P Numbers designate the base metal that you are qualified to weld on which is why I am very curious as to what P Number range is on your qualification card for this test. The last time I took this same test you were only qualified to weld P1 and that was the only P Number on the qualification card. As far as being able to do a couple fills with Tig, that is awesome. What is the maximum amount of weld metal that you can deposit with Tig wire before switching to Stick? Back in the day when I took my first F6/F5 (Stainless to Carbon) test the Inspector at an independent testing facility made me switch to Stick immediately after the root and hot pass with Stick. I Don't know why he did that as I have never seen that anywhere else. Looking to get back into Tig welding. Looking forward to your response.*

I'm not try to judge you but for UA test it's not allowing bridges tack, root inside thickens no more than 1/8, cover pass no more than 1/8 tall and with 1/16 cover pass over the bavel edge. I'm practicing on this, almost there to get done right. I suggest you to use 3/32 7018. Also UA test allows one pass tig root and only one tig pass for hot pass the rest all 7018 3/32. By the way I like your video when you weld big pipe you are good welder
@livepost6986
@livepost6986 Жыл бұрын
*Hello grecogiuseppevito. Good for you Brother, keep practicing, I am sure you will do well. So, at Local 488 they don't allow bridge tacks anymore you say? Like I said in my comment I have tested at Local 488 many times. They always allowed bridge tacks when I tested there but that was a long time ago. Things might have changed. Of course, I would think they still allow bridge tacks as in this video bridge tacks were used. After tacking up your coupons you have to call the inspector over to check out your coupons before proceeding. As far as only allowing to use Tig for the Root pass and Hot pass then having to switch to Stick, that is correct as far as I have experienced when I tested there. Actually, I checked my old qualification cards. On both Double Extra Heavy Wall and Max T (the test in the video) it shows that the maximum allowable deposited weld metal using the Tig process (F6) is 6mm. That is pretty well the thickness of the Root pass and Hot pass weld metal combined. After that you must switch to Stick. Keep practicing Brother and I wish you luck on your test. I don't believe in the saying "practice makes perfect" but, it definitely makes you better. Nobody is perfect.*
