Hi Jane. I do cash envelopes, been doing it for about a year now. Everything like food, fuel, birthdays, Xmas, mots and service for the car, oil and wood for heating. It’s all budgeted for, and it’s working very well. We also have discretionary spending each of £50 a month. That’s clothes, takeaways, anything really that’s not covered elsewhere. Some months we do no spend, and don’t take any money for ourselves at all.

Many years ago we had an Airedale and he needed to be hand stripped and it was about £50 then (2000). My husband did a 2year city and guilds in dog grooming as an evening class and did all the grooming our Airedale needed and now also does our cockerpoo. It's saved an absolute fortune and everyone says how lovely he always looks. My husband is trying to teach me as well, but I'm a bit slow and although the poor dog is very patient, he'll only stick me practicing on him for so long

I'm a part time reseller on ebay sales were terrible but the last 2 months I've knuckled down to it and listed items more or less every day even if its been 2 items I try to do 5 and the results have been good . If you have stock to list keep going I had a buying ban until I had listed everything almost everything goes on offers so I add a little to allow for offers I'm not greedy but there is no point putting all the work in not to make something for myself . Don't give up on it yet but saying that I've given up on vinted I find ebay much more reliable. I will go back to vinted but we have to wait so long for the money I get my money daily from ebay and it really helps ❤

Cash envelopes are awesome! I get envelopes for free from my bank; I put a post it on the front of the envelope, specifying how much is in there and what it’s for. If I get money back from my taxes, I use it to pre-pay up coming bills…It’s been working really well for me!

Looks like you all had some fun at the village fare and garage sale, I don’t envelope stuff, but I do use cash for most things I have a certain amount that I withdraw and when it’s gone it’s gone, it almost stops you from spending it in the first place, I keep thinking I would like a new dresser for the kitchen, but I’ve not found what I like for the right price and the longer it’s gone on I just think I’m managing fine without so do I really need it, sometimes being indecisive saves me money too.

I started using cash in February for my groceries and miscellaneous stuff. It makes me more aware of what I am spending. And so far, I've had money left over every payday. I have a budget for gas but still use a card because it gives me 10 cents off a gallon.

Thank you for going through this it helps me sort myself out too. I have two dogs which I now groom myself. I bought a professional set of clippers. They are expensive but worth it. Buy once they last forever and will soon pay for themselves. The cheap clippers dont work well on poodle type coat and cloggs them quickly and pulls. There are really good professionals on youtube who show you what to do. I have slowly built up my professional tools. I can do the dogs when I want and in stages. No more matts. Grooming is expensive, the last time I took mine it cost me £45 for my girl the exact same size as Archie, and my Briard cost £70, because he is large and hairy breed, that is prices up North and back in 2019! I feel you, but for me, the dogs are family, and non negotiable in my life. Thank you for the tips today. We have to keep tweaking where we can.

Go Groomer, channel on youtube, she talks you through purchasing best clippers, she has videos on doodle type coats, step by step. I know the clippers are expensive I bought the whal, but as I said, it is cheaper in the long run then buying cheap inferior ones that dont work,, and better for you using them and better for the dog. Dont be nervous, I cut my girls hair with scissors to take the thick out, then brush through to make sure no matts then I shave her down. Doodle coats can matt so quickly, one day fine the next a lump, I know. I scissor her legs, etc. to tidy her up. It is only hair, a bad hair cut is only a couple of weeks, soon grows back. You will get better the more you do it. For other helpful tips I watch Girl with the Dogs on youtube, she does the youtube to pay for pets to be groomed, she explains a lot of why she is doing certain things and you pick up tips, she has a shop you can purchase from her and she has paid courses, but you can learn tips through following the videos. Shes based in Niagara Falls, Canada. Good luck.

A great video, Jane, it looked like fun at your garage sale. I bet your mum had a whale of a time despite the weather. It's the sort of thing my own mum would have loved. I use ebay to give me a little pocket money but nothing is selling. Very disappointing 😢 I hope you survived polling day yesterday. Our venue was manic! I barely had time to make a drink! It was lovely to see so many young voters for once. Today I'm absolutely shattered though. Not sure I can do it again as I'll be 75 in November 😱 Have a great weekend Jane. Angie x

Our taxes just came in at 25% more. Ugh! We have a sinking fund but still…We had to increase our deposit for it when our car insurance went up at the beginning of the year. It never ends!
