Sincere, true, he looks so giddy talking about his music, the light is flowing from his very aura. Fucking king of all artists. >>I ended up crying it’s so emotional to see someone so passionate and open and honest I know exactly what you mean. I'm autistic with an autistic partner (but we're both allistic-passing sooomewhat-- if you don't know about autism you wouldn't clock us, but trying to deal with us in any kind of emotionally intimate capacity you'd find out quickly lol) and the overwhelming difference between most people having this huge self-limitation in everything vs. my partner fucking killing it with the joy of humaning genuinely does make me tear up at times. It can be a really fun and beautiful thing to be alive and just go have fun in ordinary settings, but almost no one is willing to do it even though we're all on limited time. To the point where when someone does do it, it's taken as either huge cringe or huge charisma (depending on how conventionally attractive they are etc).

I don't know whether James is Autistic or just has the same "special interest" passion that a lot of autistic people experience but I am autistic and I relate deeply to his "this is what I am meant to do. I don't care if people don't like it, because there are people who do like it and I want to share my passion with them" mindset. There was this kid at my highschool who absolutely loved Michael Jackson, he was Autistic and MJ was his special interest. He knew all his songs, all the moves, he could answer any question about MJ. He spent all of his free time practising his dance moves and he was REALLY good at it. By 16 he was running his own business as a Michael Jackson impersonator doing gigs at parties and such. He saved all of his money to buy really high quality replica MJ clothing and if there was a uniform free day you can bet he was dressed to the nines in his Thriller outfit or some other sequinned, tasseled, leather jacket, shiny shoes and of course, one white glove and a cool hat. He would spend recess and lunch every day practising his dancing. He did not care if people made fun of him for it and I think that his passion was so visible and so strong that no one did. Everyone thought it was neat and even people who were kind of mean were nice to this kid because he was just a super friendly guy who loved Michael Jackson and loved dancing so much and no one could even think it was weird or dumb because he was so passionate. It was actually really cool to see the respect he was given, because yes - it was strange, but he knew it was strange and didn't care. That was what he loved and everyone saw how much he loved it. I believe he is still doing MJ impersonator work to this day. I bring him up because James reminds me a lot of him, contagious joy because he is having a great time doing what he feels that he is meant to do. His raison d'être. Even if it's a little out of the ordinary it's hard for anyone to look at him and think it's silly because he exudes passion and love for what he does. MJ Kid was cool as heck and James is cool as heck. I love people who are passionate, whatever their passion is I love hearing about it, seeing it and just experiencing a bit of their joy for the thing they love so much. Feels good man.

Definitely agree, it's important to stick to what you want as a director. I did film production in college and during one of my group projects, the actors didn't want to wear wigs or style their hair for our medieval fantasy themed video, and I didn't push them on it. Then, during class, everyone in the class and the professor roasted us for the characters' hair not fitting the theme. I was so mad and kicked myself for not insisting on such an important detail. If you let things slide, people will notice.

I think James' genuine enthusiasm and passion for what he does, and the way goes for it free of self-doubt was contagious. It infected Kurtis Conner, and leaves me feeling hopeful as well. as an autistic woman who had been masking for 17 years of her life, i'd made it a full time job to look down upon and feel embarrassed for people being themselves, because i genuinely thought that everyone, like me, was pretending to be someone they weren't, that everyone was "weird" and that it wasn't proper to let people see that. i was diagnosed last year and have come to appreciate people who are, unapologetically, just who they are, because i know that, for me, that's the single hardest thing in the world. it genuinely brought me to tears seeing james be so passionate about what he does and so unapologetically himself. i still have a lot to learn from people like him, the people i admire the most

I’m 17 too and autistic and we are so similar in this sense. It took me a long time to realise I need to love myself or who I am, and that masking stops not only ME from loving the real person inside, but also everyone else around me. I also got diagnosed really late at around 15. I was still in school at the time and it came with bullying, misunderstandings and troublesome teachers. But it’s a journey and some say it will never end, but I can say I am so so proud of everyone with SD for just being able to live their lives and wake up in the morning

I'm honestly so glad that someone like him still exists in a "cringe culture" that shames everyone for every little thing they do. One of the reasons I miss before the internet and the early internet is because people were more like this. They created because they loved it. Happy people were free to be that way without being shoved into a box as much. He's got so much self confidence to put himself out there in a world that will tear him down. He seems lovely. It makes me really feel that I lost out on my own music career because I was too afraid of other people. This was a nice watch

Omg yes! This video honestly kind of opened my eyes towards what we say is "cringe" or "weird" or whatever. Because actually, cringe is often (not always) just people being who they are and enjoying themselves. It's refreshing to see someone give a shit about whether people like him or the way he is or not. Obviously not everyone will get along with you if you are just the way you are but that's fine because the people who do get along with you are exactly the people you really want to be around most of the time. It's amazing, he's really inspiring

James easily could've been a fairly successful musician in the 60s/70s/80s, I think. I say those time periods specifically because I could see him having more success when the music industry was different. He's naturally talented, eccentric, and passionate about music, and he has so many qualities for success.

Outside music was big back then!!! there was a lot of experimental artists in those times that were Abel to thrive in local niche scenes before livenation bought up all the venues killing independent underground scenes.

the admirable thing about james too is he isnt just an entertainer and creator, but he’s a teacher and a true leader, it’s obvious in the way he taught kurtis the dance and how he directed him to improve each take when they were recording

i love seeing somebody who makes art to simply make art. worrying about monetization can really stunt creativity. i want the world to be full of artists like james. edit: now that i’ve seen the entire video, i wanna say that james has made me feel so much better about not only my art, but about the world in general. thank you kurt, for making such a positive video and sharing this wonderful person. james is a pretty cool dude.

This video and the comments on it make me proud to be a fan of you. The positive, encouraging, unapologetically enthusiastic energy and kindness is beautiful. The internet is so often a toxic, critical, and hateful place, so a little beam of light like this means a lot.

I actually teared up at what Reggie was saying. He sound like an incredibly nice guy, supporting James because he sees how much passion for music he has. And it must be such an amazing feeling for both of them. For Reggie, because he can show someone that their passion is appreciated and for James, because he has someone who is this invested in something he loves doing so much.

Same. I love James’ unadulterated passion and ambition for his music but I absolutely adore Reggie’s support for that passion and his willingness, regardless of actual psychical pain, to show up and continue that support. I’ve actually broken my shoulder too (well, it’s called a slap lesion, where the muscles been torn off the broken bone) and the pain is blinding, you can’t even think straight. So for him to still be there and freaking dance in that condition was goddamn commendable.
