Im a big woman, like a BIG woman. I have big friends. When we ride in a traditional 5 seater (driver, shotgun, two back seats, and the hump seat) that become a 4 seater, no one can sit on the hump. If we were ordering an Uber and there was more of us, it makes sense we would need the clarification of adequate space. That's the reality of being this size. Yeah, it's our own faults, which is why it's our responsibility to source accommodations. The driver did nothing wrong.

As a rideshare driver myself, this is why I use a dashcam and document everything. Passengers do way too much to report drivers. Granted their are problematic drivers but passengers will try to get you fired for not giving them extra stops without paying, not giving your number to them, not letting them ride with a small kid without a car seat. I actually did get a passenger that was upset my car was too small for them. It’s a rough ride

I would disagree with you here, since she is talking about Twitter and the content people were consuming on the platform. Media literacy is in part understanding that just because all of the returns support your existing position doesn’t necessarily mean that that’s all the information out there. Also being mindful of the role we play when searching for information. She used the term media literacy in a case where she’s responding to a comment from someone who automatically just assumed she got the man fired without digging deeper to figure out if that were true or not.

I don't understand the problem with what the lyft driver said - he was clarifying the loading capacity of his vehicle on customer request. Will the car fit six people? It depends on the size of the people because that's how mass and space work. If it's six Amberlynns, no the car can't fit them. Simple answer.

In an ideal world, he would have said something like, "6 people if nobody requires any special accommodations/spacing." but a) if he was ESL that is some unlikely wording (I'm a native English speaker and it took ME awhile to settle on that wording, I can't imagine coming up with it when shooting off a quick text) and b) tbh she probably would have been pissed off about that, too. My parents had to sell our 5 seater Citroën and bought an 8 seater Nissan when my brother was born :D And in there you'd be very squished in the back. (no space for additional suitcases) People always interpret from their pov. For me it's height, for her (if she's plus size?) it's weight. Taking interpretation as the truth is always a bit dangerous in my opinion.

Yeah, I've noticed for a while that storytime-like stuff has changed. I think it's linked to the fact that we seem to use the internet differently. I've seen a lot of people overshare and blow out of proportion things that, before, would have been discussed with close friends at lunch. I think people forget that they're literally showing the entire world their dirty laundry in perpetuity. Why? I think it's because everyone can be tabloid-worthy now and mass validation is more enticing than that of a friend. Of course, the internet's thirst for drama and inherent nosiness doesn't help.
@BlueRoseFaery
@BlueRoseFaery 5 ай бұрын
Yeah I like that she brought up the fact that we need to think about our intentions when posting online, what are you hoping to get out of this? Cause yeah, social media has changed a lot pretty quickly. Posting on your Facebook or MySpace or whatever used to be seen mostly by your friends, maybe friends of friends, so posting minor grievances Was about the same as sharing them around a lunch table. But now with TikTok, Twitter, etc. you're shouting into the void of collective humanity, almost anyone can hear you (see your video or post) AND respond to you. The collective of humanity online are NOT your friends, they're not necessarily going to be nice or give you any benefit of the doubt and 99% of the time will do the opposite. My boyfriend was thinking about making an account to post his art & I asked him what he wanted to get out of it (having a dedicated art account instead of posting to his personal accounts) and warned him that he could get some very hateful messages very easily. I'm not against it, I didn't try to talk him out of it, I just don't want him getting discouraged in his creativity.
@AJanineBrett
@AJanineBrett 5 ай бұрын
@@BlueRoseFaery Yep, I miss the days of closed social networks. And yeah unfortunately having a dedicated art account is a very fast way to gain a following but it's not the only way. The art community is also relatively tame and drama free, unless you're on tiktok. If he's and artist who follows a lot of artists, he may already know the lay of the land. But you're right about cautioning him about intentions. Either way, I hope he finds success!

Yeah, calling people "normal" and excluding specific groups is not good. Examples: it would be like saying "normal people vs. gay people" Or "POC vs. normal people." Or "autistic people vs. normal people." To imply a group of humans is "not normal" has inherently negative connotations. Think about how often you hear people pointedly say, "omg that is NOT normal" when trying to imply someone is being insane or stupid. There is usually a better word to use. Such as "typical" or "average." That is, if there isn't already a word specifically there to avoid otherizing entire groups.

Really and truly, even as a 28y/o here, you could say nothing and someone will cancel you for blinking. This is why I really only complain for other people if they want to, but not as much for myself. Why are younger generations also kind of just so entitled about these things… what was the reason behind dragging it out so much.

Can people please stop assuming that their biggest insecurity is everybody else’s most hated attribute, biggest pet peeve, or raison d’etre when it comes to passing judgement or just being an A-hole in general? Remember what they say about assuming things? The sad part is that this driver was very likely trying to SAVE himself from getting a bad review. Undoubtedly, he was worried about what might happen when he shows up and is unable to accommodate multiple passengers along with all their shit because he didn’t bother to specify under which circumstances he could/could not accommodate six people. Having said all the above, what bothers me the most about this “story time” (well, aside from how ridiculously silly the whole thing is) is the level of condescension with which the OP addresses her followers/reaseders. No, we are not supporting far phobia by default for speaking on behalf of the driver, nor are we fat phobic ourselves if we don’t support OP. What an absurd thing to say and the tone OP takes makes my blood curdle. Does she truly believe we are unable to comprehend the intricacies of such a subtle and politically nuanced situation? Obviously, OP completely missed that it’s not that we don’t comprehend…it’s that we don’t get why she thinks the situation deserves to be taken so seriously. Frankly, when the dust cloud of BS settles, OP is the only one with a problem. Her problem is unreasonably thinking everyone else is as focused on her weight and how it makes her feel as she is.

This is one of my biggest problems with the fat acceptance community. Everything is ALWAYS fatphobia when in reality, its not. Even if the guy said he didnt want obese people in his car, thats not even fatphobic. 6 obese people in a car can quite literally damage the car. For example, there is a creator here on KZfaq called Amberlynn reid. She is 500lbs+. 2 out of 3 of her exs had their cars totaled JUST from her riding shotgun. She literally ruined their cars. Totaled them. Not only did the dude not ever say anything about anyone being fat, but even if he did, theres totally logical reasons for it. Im disabled, so the "6 normal people" to me i honestly thought of disabled people with disability aids (wheelchairs, walkers, service animals, etc) like i dont get how they flip everything to ALWAYS be "fatphobic" its super frustrating.

Lifts have a weight limit, so if you put 12 average in there all is okay. Or maybe six average people with a lot of stuff. The issue is that when people are, ahum, "fluffy" average doesn't counts. For weight and size they count as TWO or more. So you can only put six "fluffy" people or less in the same lift. Same works with cars, with limited space.

My story probably sounded revenge oriented, but it was the only way I could say it now that I am neurodivergent without any professional help to navigate that. Even though I know it's better to give my experience and say my needs, it would only come out as an upset story and frustration. Will this driver look at me and think I'm over his normal limit? Is he annoyed? Am I a bad passenger? And other low self-esteem bs.

I think she tried to say "reading comprehension" but got it mixed with media literacy lol. And the information was not wrong, was it incomplete? Yes, but not wrong. Those literally where her own tweets. I feel like she's trying to paint a different story for her TikTok followers so she can make it seem like people are telling lies about her out of fatphobia. And I don't like how condescending she sounds every time she mentions the driver and his "imaginary" family and immigrant status, to me it makes it seem like she thinks we're trying to make the driver look like a victim just to get at her, as if the whole world is out to get her or something.

I kinda think there’s a problem when you got girls who aren’t that big talking bout Fatphobia and people discriminating against them for it… when I think of people being fataphobic I’m thinking they are talking bout 600 plus… not no normal 200 under 300… like how tf is this woman that insecure to care what a Lyft driver thinks anyways?! She don’t look big!! And she’s pretty!! I’m like almost 200, idc!! Though, I’m pregnant lol I got an excuse. I’m just saying this girl… I’m just confused about. Who cares what someone thinks of you anyways, no matter what?? Like just live your life, that post probably didn’t need to even be made.

I’m fat and I agree with you. This is not something that should have been blown to the proportion. The victim ideology in the fat community became insufferable. If you had 6 people and one or more are BIG then it’s possible that the vehicle WOULDN’T fit everyone. FOR OBVIOUS REASONS.

Idk about this. As a disabled person...that message would have been off-putting if not offensive. Idk if there is a language barrier, but I definitely don't see the point of putting this whole situation online. As suggested, I would probably just have contacted Lyft separately and on the DL. IMO, a message like that is unintentionally hurtful. 🤷‍♀️

Whatever happened to just talking to someone about the thing you’re having an issue with? Why does it always have to end with someone being severely punished, without a full understanding of what the situation is? Do you really get offended because someone uses the word “normal“ In a general context?

@@Farcamp1 I find it a poor choice of words, personally I would probably ask for clarification of what they meant by "normal" or assume they meant average. @Farcamp1

@@averyhill615 we all should think we’re “normal”. I get your point, though…just not to the extent that someone would need to be fired. Normal = average. You know that and understand that, but instead you decide to take offense to "normal" even though you know its not some sort of dig. Its just to identify what the MAJORITY is. Being nitpicky about speech is really getting ridiculous, you're exchanging words that mean the same thing and get the same point across but somehow think one is "phobic" and the other is "affirming".

I think she has a point with the direction the repost account took with the comments on it. People did take that repost as an opportunity to go after all fat people and air their grievances out by holding up her tweet as an example of their personal issues with fat people. The fact that she deleted it and messaged that account to ask for it taken down was also a good step too. I DO think she should have clarified either under the tweet or on her own twitter after she deleted it that she never messaged Uber about it and doesn’t intend to. I know she made the TikTok but how would people on twitter know to look for that?

Micro aggressions are micro for a reason... that way they can talk down or abuse others without being held accountable for it. I usually like your vids but telling fat people to not make it all about fat phobia is wild to me. She's allowed to vent on the internet and it's not appropriate at all for people to send her death threats about it. The expectations for every single tik tok talking about a personal experience to be this perfectly scripted and have a perfectly planned out response is getting to be way too much.

I have worked in customer service and if at any given point I said something that upset a costumer, wether was my intention or not, the customer was within their rights to request a supervisor to complain and I would be reprimanded. It sucks and the few times that it happened it made me feel terrible, bc it was never my intention to make someone feel bad and the idea of losing my job wasn't a very pleasant one, but it was on me to be more mindful about my words and it's wild that everyone is piling on this girl for complaining about a comment that could easily be taken in a poor way

I don't think the driver was referring to her size. I had cabs before with a four-adult person limit. Now if those four people all weigh 500 about 40stones That will not work, an average weight of 250 lbs for four adults, is 1000 lbs which is the limit that a car can safely carry. Then along comes four people that are 500lbs each, Let's say ALR & three of her friends want to ride? That is more than double the weight, they cannot do it. The physics will not work, it is not safe. Just like when we were over the limit by one or two people. They called for a larger cab, and it took a few more minutes of waiting. Then we learned to always order two cabs. This young lady is beautiful, I couldn't see her body. I really don't understand her point, if she feels slighted By the answer to her question, it seems she assumed That he meant 6 regular people, no fatties. When he said, nothing like that, the average adult American is 250lbs That is 1500lbs that is not light. but you change it & three of those 6 are 300 or 500. Do you see not only would the whole ride be uncomfortable & dangerous? There are things like weight limits, they are not there to shame the fats*. Get over it & order two cabs, no big deal, we all need to suck it up once in a while. IMHO peace *I am a fat, I can say that...
