After seeing this guy get exposed, this feels like a textbook manic episode, but magnified by social media. Not trying to diagnose him, but I get strong flashbacks to a friend from college who started seeing departmental politics as a conspiracy against her, causing her to drop out weeks before graduation and start stalking and harassing professors for a few months until her parents found her help. I can only imagine what she would have done if the internet was like it is today.

As an Austinite, the lake has been full of bodies for years. Most of them happen to stumble drunkenly into it themselves. Or sadly, they're homeless and are unwell or a combination. The serial killers are under addressed alcoholism, homelessness and a mental health crisis far more than any individual. Allegedly. But we have people go missing in the lake every year simply from them going underwater and "never coming back up." There's massive tree branches that are underwater that have made body recovery a nightmare to ever undergo for rescue teams. The lake is muddy and hard to see in and full of underwater trees that will trap people, including rescue teams. And then sometimes they happen to resurface. Now, the kidnapping and human trafficking? Yes, I will give that point a genuine nod. I personally nearly got grabbed in fully lit streets due to how easy it is to be preyed on off 6th Street. That and again very unwell homeless attack people nowadays. But yeah, there was a huge trafficking ring that got taken down back in 2012ish. Definitely plausible that it's been ramping up again considering the displacement of asylum seekers from so many different places in the world right now.

The smiley face is always the same as well as far as I know. I mean that alone is a pretty big friggen coincidence. Forensics student here: If it was all linked, then there would be further evidence on the bodies. Same types of death, same injuries. But there's no way he would have access to it unless the state not only had a Freedom of Information Act, but also a statute of limitations that releases information out in a few weeks within the case creation. Match up of descriptions of a nearby person or match up of body description. He doesn't have anything. And, they weren't all in a general area. Majority of those maps cover different areas of the cities, meaning a serial killer would be going out of his comfort and familiarized zone. This has no pattern of a serial killer.
