I don't think people have a clue how bad Tinnitus can be. I was an artillery guy my whole time in the army. my ears suffered almost from the first firing of the weapon. We wore absolutely no protection. We were told to keep our mouths wide open so as not to pop our eardrums from the concussion when firing. I currently get 10% for it. My tinnitus drives me crazy to the point sometimes I wish I were dead especially at night when I TRY to go to sleep. Please keep up the good work.

You, sir are absolutely correct. As a disabled navy veteran myself, I can attest to the facts you've stated. I'm service connected for tinnitus, and have been diagnosed with hearing loss and provided hearing aids as of last year. I also service connected knees, and was diagnosed with sleep apnea. The VA denied my sleep apnea claim despite the diagnosed and cpap machine. I'm currently filing a PTSD, insomnia and migraine headaches. As a native of Indiana myself I pronounce tinnitus the way as yourself lol. And thanks for the great presentation.

What about the 3” 50cal dual gun mounts on a ship? I also worked on the flight deck for Combat Cargo. I operated printing presses in the print shop for a few years. I’m rated at the max 10% for tinnitus, but I’m interested in secondary claims for insomnia, depression, irritability, among others.

For the VA to consider disability benefits for a secondary service connection, you must file a claim and be service connected for a primary disability. You can’t be granted the secondary condition until you’re granted the primary one. It's also important to remember that every veteran's case is different. We would be happy to discuss your case with you to see if we can help. You can reach us at 800-544-2108, or you can fill out our online contact form for a free case evaluation: www.woodslawyers.com/contact/

I just had a hearing test at the VA hospital and am picking up my hearing aids on the 6 of April, they ask if I knew when my tinnitus started and I told them may of 1981 on board the USS Nimitz CVN 68 when two bombs went off on the flight deck and I was right under neath the explosion on the deck below. I haven't seen the results of my test yet, I haven't filled a claim yet but plan on doing so after see the results of the test. I think I would have a valid claim. There's even a video of it on KZfaq but I can't watch it, afraid it might trigger some old memories of what happened on that day.

I am a Navy Vet. Served shore duty but my squadron deployed off the USS Theodore Roosevelt. When I wasn't in my rack or the shop, I was on the flight deck. My bird was the EA-6B Prowler; just about the loudest bird on the boat. While I was in, we always used our cranials (with the built in Mickey Mouse Ears); we were never given or had access to a second layer of hearing protection like spongies. Want to talk about loudness and hearing loss? Have a documented 35% hearing loss in both ears and the Navy won't acknowledge it. Tinnitus/10% was the only rating they would give me.

So I'm at 20% service connected and if I win my tinnitus claim I'm pretty sure that I'll still be at 20% because of VA math.20+10 doesn't equal 30 with the VA rating scale. So what do I expect to get out of this. I'm pretty sure nothing is going to change or should it ?????
@woodslawyers
@woodslawyers 2 жыл бұрын
In VA math, 20% + 10% = 28%, which rounds up to 30%. For 2022, that's a difference in monthly compensation of about $165. You can learn more about the potential impact of additional disability ratings using our combined ratings calculator here: www.woodslawyers.com/va-disability-benefits-rating-calculator-for-veterans/

Hello. I love listening to you. Thank you for your service. I have a question. So I have 10% for Tinnitus and after that I filed a new claim for Hearing loss and 2 secondary claims (Migraines & Hyperacusis) at my in person C& P exam for Hearing loss the Doc told me he was ruling I’m my favor for Hearing loss and Hyperacusis. I also had a plethora of paperwork to back it up, Nexus letters and whatnot. A few weeks later I was scheduled for a C& P exam over the telephone for Migraines. When the doc called me she barely asked me any questions and must’ve said 10 times that she needed to finish reading the documents and paperwork I submitted. The whole thing lasted 5 min and at the end she said again that she needs to go thru my paperwork. Is this normal? I will be submitting another secondary claim for Depression and Anxiety very soon. Should I wait until these claims are finished before submitting more ? Thank u for your time.

We always advise veterans to listen to their doctor and take their advice. If you need help finding a neurologist, we have a network of medical professionals we trust to get the evidence our clients need. We work with doctors who review medical records and write reports and work with psychologists and vocational experts who understand VA compensation.

Good question! You must file a claim for the secondary claim. After that, the VA will usually request a C&P exam. You can also use a Disability Benefits Questionnaire to help your claim. A DBQ allows you to address symptoms, severity, possible causes, and how the condition may be related to other disabilities. If you have more questions, you can reach us at 800-544-2108, or you can request a free consultation here: www.woodslawyers.com/contact/

I just filed for Tinnitus I was a Navy Seabee and suffered from Tinnitus for years. My problem is I have medical evidence from a private doctor but I don't have any evidence to support from when it happened, which was in 1990. I went to my Senior Chief back then and he told me not to report it because they would hold it against me blah blah blah. So I dealt with it for years until I learned from Woods that I can try to claim it. So I haven't even gone for VA Medical exam yet. The VA contacted me and said everything looks good and they will contact me regarding my exam when it's scheduled. Any thoughts ??

I was caught in an extremely loud aircraft engine explosion when I was stationed on active duty at Sewart AFB near Nashville in 1966. My appointment with our Flight surgeon warned me about problems with tinnitus in following years which VA in Dallas and Waco have refused to help me. Texas Senator has also refused twice to help me during the past 15+ years. Apparently my military health records where my injury was recorded was destroyed in a noted fire in the 1970 era. I have now spent $15,000 on hearing aids which are finally helping me through this Air Force injury our illustrious government will not recognize or help...
