I hope this video helps make sense of tipping when it comes to piercings and everything that goes into it. And I hope it relieves some of the pressure I know many folks can feel around tipping for these services. As a reminder we as piercers and artists should be grateful for the support of our clients. And if we need to rely on tips so much to make a wage we need to work on making changes in our industry to change that- not expecting clients to tip us more.

Thank you for covering this! Hearing about all the gifts and foods that were given instead of a tip made me think about how everybody has their own love language 😂 everyone shows their appreciation differently

Everyone TOTALLY has their own love language and it can for sure come through in tipping. I love writing and leaving beautiful and helpful reviews (along with tips), and when I was younger I was always baking treats for tips. 🥰

I had a client bring me a cute card she wrote a whole note on and 🥺🥺🥺 better than the usual $5 (average at my shop). That card lives happily displayed in my room permanently now, I love it.

My piercer has started not charging me his $10 fee for jewelry changes. So I usually buy a piece of jewelry or a sticker, or something with my debit card and have the opportunity to add a ten dollar tip electronicly. Because the one time I tried tipping in cash he wouldn't accept it. I also write a great review after each encounter. I have thirty piercings now and he has done two thirds of them for me.

Last piercing I got (conch) cost me $60. The piercer did an awesome job---didn't even feel it. I gave her a $15 tip, since I was so pleased with the service, and she was very pleasant to talk with. I always tip well for great service. Everyone should. (Jan Griffiths).

Great video. Thinking of the person and gifting is an awesome idea. I live in Australia and tipping isn't a thing here, so this was interesting. I'd like to see a vid of the weird and unique tips you've received.

Thanks for the info. Writing from Canada. I am new to piercing. At the studio I go to, for the piercings I have gotten, I tip. Even if something is a 'free' service like a back downsizing, I tip because time is not free and the piercer has been really helpful and I feel really comfortable emailing her if I have any concerns and I really do feel she has by best interest in mind.

When I hear Americans talk about tips, I always assume it's like $2, maybe $6. When I did the math of 20% on say a $76 dollar sale, my mouth dropped. How can people afford to do this, because isn't tipping necessary for every service like dining out as well? That's a full hours wage in just one tip. I think I've also seen that GST is also added at the end of the sale and is not included in the sale price that's advertised. Are prices lower in America to accommodate for this? I'm from Australia so this is mind blowingly confusing for me and I'm super interested to learn!

Oh yes. In dining out they can legally pay people only a few dollars an hour because the rest of their income is covered in “tips”. Similarly many studios have lower hourly rates counting on tips to make up the rest of their employees pay. 😬 At least at my studio GST is always included in the sale price given to clients so they know. But basically we just budget to tip. I don’t eat out if I can’t afford to tip well, and in the past if I couldn’t afford to tip an artist I still tried to give them something to show gratitude. It’s definitely difficult over here haha

I am from USA, born and raised, and no, prices are not that low for us to have to tip everywhere, and nowadays, they also give us a speech to try to get us to donate here and there. Ok, you don't have to tip, but it's considered rude if you don't tip. Some of my friends have directly told me, "I don't believe in tipping because no one else gets tipped, so why should they get tipped?" And about donations, I just wait for them to be done with their speech, wait for my receipt, and give them a blank stare and say no. No explanations because they will push more. I have however, on many occasions helped out the homeless with money or food, but only helped directly.

Thanks for all the information! Would you recommend tipping on check ups for piercings? My piercer is having me come in once a month to check in on healing, they have been free check ups so I didn’t even think to tip until recently. I have autism so social etiquette stuff doesn’t come naturally. Really appreciate content like this to help me navigate social situations, so thank you so much for creating it!

Tbh I tip my piercer I lot. Like for $60 I tipped $40. Buuuut I’m wondering if cash is better to tip? They have that debit card POS system & it has the 15%, 20% 25% and custom amount. But does the piercer get 100% of that tip? Do they prefer cash?

Tattoo artists sometimes do "tapout sessions" but is that a thing in the piercing industry as well? i know you only are supposed to have 4 healing piercings at MAX, but is there anything equal to that? i just love the piercing process so much
@Lynn_Loheide
@Lynn_Loheide 2 жыл бұрын
Nooooo. And depending on the client and the piercing 4 could be too many. Tap out sessions are a terrible idea for piercings and honestly can sometimes be a flawed system for tattoos as well. If someone enjoys the piercing sensation and process I would suggest play piercings!
