I genuinely hate that so many folks get taken advantage of in this way, and it's incredibly heart breaking to hear how much money and time was lost out. Don't take shortcuts trying to learn something like this, it's worth learning the right way!

Would be amazing if piercing and tattooing were considered more similar to hairdressing or trades, where you can go to a technical college that includes a practicum. Then they could include more medical knowledge.

I’m a baby piercer, started my apprenticeship in the beginning of June and you’re actually one of my reasons for wanting to peruse piercing. I’ve always been super interested as I’m super inked and pierced up, and I always felt I really resonated with the community. I’ve followed you on tik tok for forever, and you make it seem like such an art form and you’re super educational. At first before I started I really just thought it was putting a needle through people but it is SOOOO much more than that. Now since starting my apprenticeship your platforms have been a huge source of information and knowledge for me, even my mentor will send me links your blogs 😂 I’m also a member of piercer babes and I love seeing you post on there as well. Thank you for taking the time to spread your knowledge, I always look forward to seeing you post. I aspire to be a piercer like you 🖤

There's an article from a piercer somewhere that gets posted on r/Legitpiercing a lot and he mentions that he would require an apprentice take one of those 2 week, $2500 classes before he'd even train you and this video made me realize that may be a red flag. Thank you Lynn! I'm also glad you mentioned the Fakir Intensives though, because that one seemed to stand out to me and was also mentioned frequently.

glad to hear fakir intensives is a good option, i'm looking to learn more about piercing (not even necessarily about piercing, I'm fascinated by the front counter and jewelry side of things) and i put myself on the waitlist.

A body piercer in my nearest city (Portsmouth, UK) openly says they never shadowed anyone and that they went to a school to become a licensed piercer. One of her most popular posts is of doing 8 piercings in one sitting

So true when have you ever seen "proof of apprenticeship" or "proof that they know about sterilisation and contamination" the current system is broken!

It would be interesting if piercing ever took a model like nursing or the medical field where you would take 1-2 years of classes and do shadowing and actually getting to do supervised piercings at studios. It would be logistically difficult especially since medical school and nursing school have a vast history and it took hundreds of years to get to where it is now, and I feel like piercing would even have a bigger issue than medical with a shortage of people who want to teach in comparison to how many people would want to attend.

God I think this kind of system eventually could be an ideal method for our industry but idk how we would implement it
@Nooorrriii
@Nooorrriii 2 жыл бұрын
@@Lynn_Loheide it would be so difficult, I can see it being extremely impacted just like nursing and not sure if you’d be bringing in more people who would want to learn proper piercing than the current apprenticeship model.

I agree. I’m looking to become a body piercer and have for ages however in my area there is no availability for any piercing apprentices i’ve asked pretty much all of the piercing studios in my area and have been unsuccessful for months, my last option would be to take a course as i see it as being my only way into the industry atm :/

It sucks when there’s nothing open locally. I was in that same situation early in my career. I actually worked night shifts at Walmart and networked online/went to conventions/saved up to travel and meet piercers. I ultimately found a good apprenticeship that way- but those courses were tempting! That’s how they get folks sadly. It was so much work to get an apprenticeship the right way and I wish it didn’t have to be, but I will say that I didn’t regret it one bit. I’m a much stronger, safer, educated piercer having done it this way.

thank you for addressing fakir i’ve been meaning to watch this video and when u mention that piercing school wasn’t good i almost cried because i saved up so much to go to fakir but i’m so happy u address it i’m going for the reason you said to expand my learning in hopes that it will show a mentor that i’m really committed this.

It's unfortunate! I recently paid a deposit to start a piercing course. It feels almost impossible to get an apprenticeship, so I feel I had no other option. Only to start finding out, it's a pretty frowned upon way to become a piercer.... but then no one wants to take you on as an apprentice 😔 it seems difficult to get into the industry 😭 and also sucks that I lost money paying this poopy deposit 😒

It’s very difficult to get an apprenticeship. I usually compare to to playing pro sports- there’s thousands of candidates but only a handful of spots. You have to set yourself apart from the rest and stand out to be selected! It took me four years to land my apprenticeship, and it was so worth the wait and effort.

I have wanted to be a piercers for most of my life. I called one in my area to ask about classes and they were very rude and off putting. So that was a big red flag and a no go for me! So I'm just waiting for an apprenticeship spot to come open with an actual shop in my town. I look and call around every month. Luckily I'm coming from a medical background so I'm very educated in all of the health side of this industry. Your video was A+ on informing people about this industry without being bias either! Amazing video and I always look forward to your new uploads! 🥰🥰🥰

Hey, I'm actually looking in to it all now and seriously getting frustrated! The "schools" near me give me huge doubts! The longest course is 3 days, 1st day is at home studying of the paperwork and health and safety then 2 days going over all the upper body piercings with the option of adding 1 day for dermal and the total cost was upwards of 1k! The problem is, where I live, there are only 7 piercing places and of them, only 1 that takes on apprenticeships but they literally just finished training someone so not taking on right now. Is just so frustrating trying to get in to the business right now 😔

In the Netherlands you also have short cursus. But the first thing you’ll learn is anatomy of the skin, medical condition of the skin. Sterilization but the most important part, customer communication. I feel like a lot of piercers lack this skill. Where I live you are not finished after those couple of weeks. You will still have to work an amount of hours as a apprenticeship before you are legally a piercer.

I am attending Master Tattoo Institute. It’s 10 weeks and goes through everything, we have to pass BBP test. They break down everything you listed like setup, cleaning, sterilization, angles, placements, health regulations etc. do you think this would be a good idea?

I found an online class that comes with a bbp certificate, it's a 10 week course. thats almost a year. its an online course from master tattoo institute. would this be a better option? I live on an Island and we have one tattoo artist and no piercers, so an apprenticeship is not an option for me.

@@onedirectioninfection5756 once you get your hands on good and bad jewellery to compare them, the differences are immediately apparent. you’re already on the nose, cheap jewellery is SO shiny and pale. once I realised this, it’s been so great avoiding all the catfish jewellery you see in stores. it’s so cheap and shiny and tempting but it’s never worth it for the 5 minutes you get before it falls apart and looks gross.
