Story 1: AITA for telling my dad the reason I don't respect him is cuz he's chronically p**sy-whipped? Story 2: 5:47 AITA for not giving my stepmom a heads up that my daughter was being named after my mom? Story 3: 8:48 AITA for telling my mom she needs to own her marriage failing and not blame me? Story 4: 12:08 AITA for screaming at my step mother that she doesn't care about us?

I read more of OP in Story 1’s replies on Reddit and it’s really heartbreaking. One example she gave is when their family was taking a trip to Disney World and she was dropped off at her grandparents house on-route. The problem from what it looks like with OP’s dad is that since his first wife died he’s been obsessed with the “happy family” bubble, which is why he’s allowed his SO’s to get away with so much. He wants to live in the illusion that he has a happy life, and doesn’t want any reminders that nothing is perfect. This is why I think he refuses to do therapy or acknowledge OP’s problems or concerns, because that doesn’t fit his ideal of family life. I also think OP’s dad doesn’t actually want OP around because they’re a reminder of the life that they once had. I’ve unfortunately read quite a few stories where this happens, where a widowed spouse tries to have a “do-over” family and phased out the children they had with their dead spouse because the children are just a reminder of everything they’ve lost.

And I wouldn't be surprised if spineless dope dad eventually comes crawling back begging for a second chance after finally realizing that his own daughter was right about that detestable womanchild stepmom. Depending on just *how long* it takes for him to finally realize this, he'll either start having the guilt heavily eating away at him a day or two later, or it'll have taken years before he finally grows a spine that would have grown far too late to apologize. He could try to make amends if this outcome happens, but it wouldn't change what happened thanks to his actions.

I grew up with a situation like story 1. My mom was alive and I lived with her, but my dad put his wife and her children (not his biologically) before his bio-children. She was awful to me as a child and he never did anything about it. It was so bad I didn’t want to visit him anymore and didn’t call him because she’d force him to put us on speaker so she could hear. He died when I was 13 and I don’t even remember what he looks like because of how little I saw him. I also made preparations for my death (I’m not sick, just like my wishes well known) and I specifically wrote that if my husband dates or marries a woman who treats our daughter with anything resembling abuse, my mother will have full custody of her until the woman is removed from the home. OP is NTA and is going through something difficult after losing her mother. If dad wants to be part of OP’s life when she’s an adult, he needs to stop.

Story #1: NTA. Sometimes it's the parent who needs to be told off by the kid. OP's loser father is inadvertently teaching her that it's okay for women to seek out weak men because they will never say no. OP's dad is so desperate for love that he's losing his kid's respect, and that's the biggest failure of them all. Story #2: NTA. Many step-parents have the delusion that they will replace a kid's bio-parent, and get mad when they're rejected. OP's mom has always been in her life, and OP isn't even close with the stepmom. This isn't the stepmom's baby, and she has no say in the naming. It isn't OP's fault that she imagined a relationship that doesn't exist.

A parent is LEGALLY REQUIRED to feed, clothe, hydrate, keep clean, give medical dental and vision attention, and enroll their MINOR CHILDREN WHOM CANNOT/HAVE TO DEPEND ON AN ADULT to take care of them. The child owes the parent absolutely nothing in return; they did not ask to be here, and none of those things are a bargaining chip for accepting abuse and a good judge will tell you that before jailing your ass for child neglect. Also, op’s wording was just fine.

Well, the mom who wants her daughter to apologize for not moving on as quickly as her mother did when she remarried less than a year after the girl's father died isn't quite as big an A-hole as the father in a true crime case I read about. He hired a hit man to murder his wife, the mother of his sons, then expected his sons to be happy for him when he announced his new girlfriend [yeah, the reason for the murder], while they were still processing the fact that their mom had been murdered. I don't know if that would make the OP feel better, though. (No, I don't remember the case. I read the book more than 20 years ago.)

With the third story I can see completely what's going on here. Mom either couldn't deal with being alone for a long period of time and focusing on her child and just married the first dude she's fine and she knew her daughter was never going to accept it. Or the mother cheated on her husband during the marriage and just married the affair partner. And instead of getting control to help to get her through the death of her father she pretty much told her daughter to suppress her feelings get over it and move on. My advice to the original poster is simple until your mother truly and fully apologizes for what she basically put you through and for basically blaming you for the downfall of her marriage then you need to go no contact with her sport least a couple of years and get yourself some counseling because let's be honest here she's got a lot of regret and guilt for not focusing on you when you were a child but she's also blaming you because she doesn't want to blame herself for how the relationship is between the two of you. Until she does that she has no place in your life plain and simple and it is not your fault and not even close.

I collect retro video games and video game consoles. They aren’t like Nintendo switches which are more durable. An NES is more old, expensive, the games are even MORE expensive, and if you break it or get the controllers sticky, you have to buy special equipment to fix it, or find some old professional to do it. The father refuses to understand why OP is mad and instead wants to keep his new gf happy pappy. OP has gotta run.

The "he puts a roof over your head" argument is so off base. That is literally required of him by law. Stop telling people to respect their parents for doing the absolute minimum that is required of them. That is the responsibility they willingly agreed to when they decided to have a child.

1st story - "Theyd complain about anything and he's end up handling it to please them so they'd stick around" .... so they'd stick around, yep, because there is a man that understands women. Quote "She who must be obeyed" Horace Rumpole Hopefully in seeing that, the daughter will not grow up to be yet another one of these women who dump at the drop of a hat when agreement is not forthcoming.

Mom's name. Wow! How incredibly rude that husband should want his child to have a family name in child's given names. Step mom is just plain wrong. Would she have been upset if OP had named the child Gertrude Marie, names that had nothing to do with either family? No her feelings were hurt because OP chose her real mom over her. I mean again how rude for a child to want to honor their own bio family. OP NTA. And don't feel obligated to use step mom's name or family name with the next child either.

This video could have been titled: "Kids who are more mature than the adults in their lives." Dad in story 1 is mad his kid calls him out for doing what Dad shoulda done: standing up to stepbully Amanda. StepMom in story 2 is having a pity party because OP doesn't seem to understand how it hurts to have your unreasonable entitlement go unrewarded. Story 3: Mom tries to blame her epic failures as a mom and wife on a child, and a step mom is surprised now-grown stepdaughter want t be called BY HER OWN NAME! Oooooh, the entitlement of wanting to be called by your own name after only eight years!

Story 1. Normally I would favour the parents, however in this case NTA your father is not fulfilling his duties as a father. A continuous stream of women through his door since his wife died is not a stable environment for a growing young girl. The latest spoilt princess with two pieces of another mans baggage using her as an unpaid babysitter/tutor and housekeeper way to go dad! If there is another relative you could stay with that might be a good option. If not then sorry, but you will have to stick it out until you go to college, make it far away so you don't have to live at home. One last chance, get your dad away from the family and have a real heart to heart talk with him about your situation and what you need from him, if it works ok if not, then you know you can not rely on him for anything so must make it on your own, sorry for stating facts. Best of luck young lady hope life takes a turn for the better for you.

Twins: Step-mom is obviously doing it on purpose and their dad is useless. I'd be done with this. Even if they all dressed exactly the same and had the same hair styles, it's just not that difficult to tell twins (even identical) apart when you live with/around them a lot. One stands differently. One is 5 pounds lighter. One talks/breathes differently than the others. It's not hard. NTA. Since their dad is going to take his wife's side over his kids when she's clearly in the wrong, they should move out and go LC. Either their dad will get the message when he doesn't see them much anymore, or he won't care. Either way they'll get their answer and be able to move on.

First story, wow, OP's father's self-respect is somewhere between a snake's butthole and the ground. Unfortunately OP is in a losing battle there, he won't change, for the best case scenario, leave at 18 and don't look back. Especially giving the OP's step-mother views her as some kind of free labour and she'll probably expect that as long as OP lives there, if OP gets a job almost all of it will be demanded as rent/food/utilities anyway so why bother living under a tyrant and her footstool... father any longer than OP has to. Edit: Missed a word.

First story: I feel too much for the OP, she lost her mom and her father consider her as a baggage to carry around. But she will get better, I know she will. Second story: the entitlement of the step mother, LOL, I may see it as partly justified if she had some bad syndrome like PCOS that didn't allowed her to have kids, but even then, she should have talked with her stepdaughter if she wanted her to carry her name. Third story: "they were both 7 at that time, except mother never grow up" so funny and so (sadly) true at the same time. Some people have to grow before their time, others won't grow no matter what challenge Fourth story: the wife of their father try to make him get distant from his kids? Considering what OP said, that he isn't much of a father, her mission is successful, however, OP's father is the AH in the story.

Simple solution. Moving forward anytime you’re around and she calls you by your sisters name and not yours, simply don’t answer. Don’t acknowledge her and pretend you heard nothing and keep doing whatever you’re doing. You won’t be disrespectful because that’s not your name and since she didn’t call you by your name you have no reason to respond. After a while she will get the message and dad will as well. She’s disrespectful on purpose so show her you won’t tolerate her disrespect anymore.

The last one...yeah, everyone should be happy...but as a parent you ought to take into account when your child is going through some serious shit, because if you don't, it can and will fundamentally change your relationship and trust dynamic for the worse. The mother was busy trying to fill the void she had in order to heal (though...total bandaid fix there, like buying a puppy when your dog dies), and I don't think in this case she acknowledged through her grief process that her child was also going through one. Some people that have been in long term, or even short term relationships can have trouble with the feeling of rolling solo, partner-wise....but I think it's important that they do...before establishing any new relationships, get your head right, get your house right, and make sure all is well with your family...start from a good place...I think a lot of steps were missed there. 10 months is ridiculously short an amount of time to meet, establish a relationship, and marry someone at the best of times - definitely moreso when there's a death of a significant other involved. ...and how much more children can feel things like that...no doubt as a kid it DID look like a betrayal of sorts, as an adult I see 10 months from death to new marriage and think "what the fuck". The divorce is likely a result of over time things shifting because the relationship didn't start in a stable place with a person that was *actually* ready to have one. Fix things right or they fall apart.

In regards to "The triplet story" I have friends who were triplets, 2 brothers and a sister, they looked nothing alike. The brothers looked like they weren't even related (one was black haired the other sandy brown/blonde and looked nothing alike in the face), and the sister was a very attractive blonde. All that being said I would still call the brothers by each others name all the time. I've been friends with them for 14 years and still fuck up. It's not that I can't tell them apart it's just that I'm smooth brained.

I am reading the comments and wondering why anyone is basing their answers purely off the post of a 16 year old. I am not saying her father does not have faults - every parent does, but teenagers are notorious for exaggerating, blowing things out of proportion, and making mountains out of molehills. I think she is bitter, because of the death of her mother, and is projecting those feelings on to her father. I think the daughter secretly despises any woman that would dare to take the place of her deceased mother. Just the way she speaks to people tells me she is filled with bitterness, hurt, and resentment over the death of her mother, and her father replacing her mother with another woman. Her father needs to listen to her and seek individual counseling, as well as family counseling.

I really don't know where this notion came from that as an adult you don't have to admit the things you did wrong as a child. She guilt trip her mom for 5 years for moving on "too fast". That's understandable for a child to do but to reach adulthood is still think you did nothing wrong is just wow.
