liked all of your comments, I've grown lots of amanda orange tomatoes each year there one of our favorite ones, the one's you said where potato leaf hillbilly's, not..... there solid meaty and bi-color tomatoes normal slightly flattened and bigger then the one you showed . I usually get seeds from Tomato Growers, but we save a lot of seeds to. I've grown lots of different kinds over the years. normal have to have every year are: amanda orange, prudens purples, yellow brandywine, great white, opalka, rockys, ponazzo's, black krim, red rose, both hillbillys and marglobes. plus another 12-15 that vary each year. I can see you like to try lots of different ones too.

Great presentation. Thanks for showing the seed packets. What a really homey setting and delivery style. Really enjoyed you and your presentation! Several of the tomatoes you grew are some if my garden favorites. The Cour di Bue is indeed Italian. The pronunciation is close to French, and it is the same cognate, but totally Italian. We used to grow them in the rich soil of Naples.

I haven't read all the comments, but you might have Fusarium wilt where you grow tomatoes that is limiting your production. If that the case, you might be able to control it, and plan to work around it. Best of luck!

Hi Amin! Thanks for this suggestion. After looking at pictures online I don't think that's what it is because the spotting definitely looks like blight. But I am not going to rule it out. I am taking steps this year to bring it under control. Wish me luck!!

@@SharonsHomeGarden Do not grow tomatoes in same location for three years and clip lower leafs so as not to touch the ground. My issues with early blight ceased with rotation of planting site and several inches of wheet straw two feet out from the plant to avoid soil splashing on plants that may cary diseases.

Thanks for the review. Glad to hear it on so many. Would like to see them sliced across the middle for a cross view of the flesh. And show the tomato flesh closer. I did not like my German Lunchbox. They are one of the first 3 to ripen this year. Mine are mushy with blah, watered down flavor. Might be I'm watering too much, but I suspect different seeds are just inconsistent within a variety. What was the name of the cracked one after German Lunchbox? Sounded like a tasty one.

If you don't like Paul Robeson you won't like Carbon, Black Krim or Cherokee Chief. I find that hard to believe. I think you should give it another try. You're dealing with heirlooms and mother nature and both are never on the same page. I'm growing 6 carbon and 6 Paul Robeson this year. Great White, Lillian's yellow,old German on and on. I heard you say you get 2 inches of rain every two weeks? That's plenty. Too much maybe. I'm in CT and I water 2 times a year! But know how to water and I have a very deep raised bed.
@SharonsHomeGarden
@SharonsHomeGarden 5 жыл бұрын
I have yet to grow the black tomatoes successfully. I have another one I'm trying this year ... we'll see how it grows. We usually get a huge drought in the middle of summer, then a deluge of rain and that never helps. Some year I'm going to do all hybrids and see what happens. ;)

@@SharonsHomeGarden last year was a terrible year for most of us in 6b Bridgeport CT. We had a Seattle type spring then 20+ days over 90 and back to rain. My potted tomatoes were all heirlooms and basically stopped at 2'. The heat. I also had them on the asphalt. My raised bed did fine. Small yeilds. One in the early summer and a second in the late summer. This year I put plywood down on the asphalt to lesson the heat. I hope. I only have my raised bed planted by the way. Here we basically a month behind our historic planting dates. It's still cold at night. Tomatoes grow at night in a hot soil. I work in a garden center so naturally my garden is the last one I get to! Heirlooms are interesting. Like cats they do what they want to do. The other thing is they aren't consistent. I can pick two carbon off the same plant and they will taste different,but when you get it right wow! Worth every drop of sweat. I sell my tomatoes and have a following. Put a table spoon of Azomite in the planting hole, fertilize with a few tablespoons of fish juice in a watering can,don't touch the plant. I use manhaddan oil. Bunker juice. Twice a year. Sustaine 4-6-2. That's about it. I water when needed. But I flood the bed it takes hours. Only 2 times. My soil stays wet from about 6" to 3 feet.

@@SharonsHomeGarden I work at Ganims Garden Center in Fairfield Connecticut. He's been there for 50 years. 80 years all told. To be a family business that long is saying something. He only brings in products that he knows works. His name is on the building. Most of the product you won't find. He can get it because he has the connections and his sales reps will track down whatever he wants. I use Sustain 4-6-4 as well. My beds and pots are all Bumper Crop. A Coast of Maine product that Mr Ganim helped design. I believe we are the largest distributor of Coast of Maine. Crazy because we are less than 1 acre. We always have no less than 1500 roses. We used to sell 10,000 Christmas trees! We still make wreaths by hand,up to 10'. I go out tipping for that and ropping. Check out his website. He has a podcast now too.
