It works even better if you feed it against the direction the bit is spinning. So if your doing the outside of the piece, left to right(counterclockwise), if you’re doing an inside cut, clockwise.

I was sold on the Makita until NPS. That m18 looks nice! The features on the ridgid at the price point make me consider grabbing a starter kit just for the sweet router! This is the next tool next month to add to my Ridgid cordless arsenal. Great review. One thing you may want to consider: With my other routers and edge guides, I pick up a painting stick from Home Depot, cut it down to about 8 inches or your desired length, then screw it in to the two holes on the edge guide. Make sure you countersink you screws. Use a little paste wax on the piece of wood and you have a much more stable router that will not wobble. Also the wood will protect your work from scratches. Thanks for this excellent review.

I have this unit. The power button is designed to turn on and off with a one handed operation in my opinion. Just use your right hand and use your thumb to flip on and off. Push your thumb into cut out on th bottom and it turns on easily.

How good is the battery for long constant use and is it top heavy with battery? The looks cool for routing signs and such with more freedom and no cord in the way.
@ToolReviewZone
@ToolReviewZone 5 жыл бұрын
What's up Cleve's. Na buddy, not top heavy at all. I had this going straight for over 30 minutes the other day and still had battery power to go. Depends on a lot of different variables, but should get around 45 minutes of nice use on a 3.0

I have the gen 5 non octane. But I believe the other problem with this router is the light and the fact it has no dust collector to instal your vacum. The light just shines one side and create a dark shadow in the opposite side. Than the dust builds up and shoots out very quickly creating a mess in your station. I also had a 3amp octane battery and it almost die on me after 30min of use and my router heated up. All I did was route the inside of a wood. Not that large space, just 4 by 4 inches and that thing got HOT.

Ridgid has released an even better version of this now, Model R860444. It has a die cast body for reduced vibration. Also more power. It might be too heavy to use comfortably? I would love to see a review.

Very interesting. I would definitely check with Ridgid on the dust collector. Even the homedepot.com site lists it but the owner’s manual doesn’t mention it. That is the main reason I was waiting for this new one. Otherwise it still only has one led instead of adding more, still has the same power switch, same cumbersome (to install) edge guide, and looks like the same base plates that won’t accept guide bushings....correct? Thx for the review!
@ToolReviewZone
@ToolReviewZone 5 жыл бұрын
Hmmm, that's a great question about the bushings. Maybe Ridgid can help answer this, but if not I'll find out. Thanks for the comment Daniel
@bjt3833
@bjt3833 5 жыл бұрын
The base plates have a chamfered edge on the inside and flush on the outside. This is my first router but it’s my understanding is that type doesn’t accept any ready made bushing sets out there. I did get the milescraft circle cutting jig that comes with an offset baseplate that accepts at least their bushing types.

@danielc6779

Just a correction, the online manual I was looking my at was oh the HD site and they had the manual for the old one on the new one’s page so that explains it not mentioning the dust adapter. I expect Ridgid will send you one.

I also have the non octane version of this and it is great. I agree that the power button is the only thing I really don't like about it. If you aren't in the Ridgid battery system but are in the Ryobi battery system, check out their cordless router. It looks very similar and both routers are made by TTI. For a homeowner or light-duty hobby work, that maybe good enough for you and save you some money.

I didn't like that switch at first, but it grew on me, as I got accustomed to how easy it is to shut it off. No hunting for a rocker switch under a rubber cover somewhere and struggling to kill the power. Easy power-off is kinda important when there's an open-air razor-sharp piece of carbide whizzing around within inches of your hands.
