do you mean a highly-flawed or problematic character with personality, or a character with personality in general? because I'm pretty sure everyone feels the same towards the latter, and most feel similarly towards both. nobody wants boring, flat characters lol. even with Mary Sues, if the character remains boring throughout, it's hard to amass consistent watchers.

Main characters like those guys are mainly written so the audience, mainly fanboys, can insert their personality in them. But the way I see it, they may be nothing more than walking commentaries/criticisms on anime fanboys or authors in general.

Like deadpan lolis? Yep, sound about right. Considering that they often say some of the damndest things with a bored look and a monotone voice, I think many harem mcs leave a lot to be desired.

those listed are so bland, they have less blood than ghosts, araki puts blood into his phantoms since has the battle tendency of a truly great character maker, making him a crusader made of stardust, going light-years ahead of the makers of those characters he has so much talent and creativity compared to said makers that he could have a story of a steel ball or an unbreakable diamond stone thrown into an ocean and it would generate a golden wind so great, it would turn a man, into a blessed man (or a jojolion) and make it legendary story im bored...

@@rimurutempest4945 probably i was bored so it felt like a short time (like 5-10 mins max) it probably took longer than that (had to search up what jojolion meant and edit it a bit to make it sound right), it was a spur of the moment kind of thing where it just came together in my mind and i wrote it down

Basic building block for a bland lead in an anime: Average height, short brown hair, Brown eyes, Average build and shy nice guy personality. That makes up like 80% of most harem leads.

ummm....it is true tho. A person can get amnesia, but their identity, the way they behave, their personality is already etched into their selves,so they shouldn't have forgotten that. Infact, something like that cannot be forgotten, no matter if they hit their head and got amnesia or were part of an experiment where their memory was wiped clean

Ikki Kurogane isn't a boring character. He is a person that does his best against adversity and creates inteligent strategies. Besides, those things and his love for Stella make him a very interesting protagonist.

In contrast here is a list of MC's with alot of personality and charisma: Luffy (One Piece), Eric (FMAB), Goku (Dragon Ball), Eren (AoT), Aang (Avatar...), Gon (HxH), Light (Death Note), Deku (MHA), Tanjiro (Demon Slayer), Gintoki (Gintama), Oga (Beelzebub)... PS: I could keep going for another 20 MC's but I forgot their names tho... For example: Krauser? (Detroit Metal City) and the MC in Clannad + After Story

@@depressionatitsfinest8494 Everyone is jaded about A1 Pictures version of Apocrypha, people assume that Sieg isn't a character but this is mainly due for the pacing of the story. They cut out all personal growth if the episode isn't an in-between arcs ep. Which doesn't work when your mc is you know A FUCKING NEWBORN, in the books you can see him see his thought process somewhat better and he goes from a piece of cardboard to your general ln protag++. He is not as developed as Mordred or Sisgou but he wasn't meant to be he was the embodiment of how forced heroism leads to a devaluation of life and morality (a bit like Kiritsugu) When he first got dead count shapeshifter he knew exactly what would happen if he used it once. He would be killed due to his body and Siegfrieds merging. He treats Magi, Humans, Servants & Homunculi as completely different entities which is why Jack broke him as he assumed that humanity was not as evil as mages (who do anything for personal gain). He even has a somewhat decent relationship with Mordred where he asks her about honor and kingship and why are kings important.

At least Siegfried has a personality which is a lot more then can be said for Hakuno the lead master protagonist of Fate/Extra: Last Encore. Seriously unlike the video game version of him the anime version of Hakuno literally has no personality, yes the anime version of Hakuno has no personality and why because he has amnesia. What were the writers thinking amnesia is no excuse for not having a personality. The only reason why I watched all of Extra: Last Encore was the likeable, and adorable sunflower that is Red Saber aka Nero.

To be fair most isekai only last one season and ppl watch them for the waifus and fanservice, the protagonist blandness helps make the waifus more interesting in comparison. They aren't even really characters but a plot device to bring the harem together and help move the "plot" 😂

Johan Liebert it's most of studios problem. They adapt every LN including shitty LN to keep their studio alive for each season. Compare the amount, of course LN is lot more than manga. And, The Goal of LN is fun to read/watch with comedy/waifu despite the reader/watcher didn't know where the plot is going

I tried to watch Wisemans Grandchild yesterday and my god I regret wasting my time. I had to quit the anime in the middle. The main character Shin Wolford is so boring and overpowered that I really felt to punch his goddamn face if I had the chance. I just wanted to know if others felt the same too and here I am watching this video. And boy am I glad.

Trust me mate, you’re not alone in that feeling. I even call Shin by the nickname Captain Smug-Pants, because he’s so passive aggressive in his smug behaviour when he does something OP (and he damn well knows he’s OP!). No one likes an overpowered character unless it’s for comedic effect like One Punch Man. But Shin is not funny or entertaining, he’s just an over privileged, over powered and smug little berk who gets everything he wants with NO adversity or struggle. That’s just stupid and absolutely BORING!!

I think Hakuno's Boring character case is THE POINT in the franchise. Though the anime is just.....

Hakuno actually had a personality in the original Fate/Extra video game his personality in the game was the noble kind-hearted hero who had a bit of a temper. Though granted his anger was understandable due to the fact he was getting sick and tired of him and Nero being forced to compete in what seemed like an endless Holy Grail War due to the Moon Cell. Anime Hakuno has no personality yeah he actually makes Siegfried, and Shirou look like interesting main protagonists due to the fact he literally has no personality and the reason for this was amnesia seriously what were the writers of Extra: Last Encore thinking amnesia as a plot point doesn't make it okay for your main character to have 0 personality. Why couldn't they give him the personality he had in the game.

well.. to be fair Hakuno Kishinami is supposed to be a silence game protag in Fate/Extra, where the players are the ones who makes choices of word, it could've been better in the anime adaptation, but i guess its pretty limited to adapt a silent game protag into an anime. Well... probably except for character like Red from Pokemon Origins.

He was praising Shirou and Siegfried by saying that while yes they're not interesting main protagonists they're certainly a lot better then the main protagonist of Fate Extra: Last Encore who was boring due to not only being uninteresting but also due to not having a personality, at least Shirou, and Siegfried had a personality. Seriously what were the writers of Fate Extra: Last Encore thinking that having amnesia would be a good excuse for why the main protagonist doesn't have a personality seriously the only reason why I like Fate Extra: Last Encore to an extent is due to the adorable sunflower that is Red Saber aka Nero.

The problem with these are their portrayal in anime and not the characters themselves, in the original source(Manga/WebNovel,LightNovel) they are quite good.Some of the most fun even.

Writers Hakuno having amnesia as a plot-point is no excuse for refusing to give him any semblance of a personality.

I think a character’s personality lies in the eyes of the watcher. For example, Toya Mochizuki has it all easy. But to me he’s a nice guy who wants to help. Sounds like a personality to me. For those who like some of these characters, take it to heart. They are who you define. If you like it, that’s alright. Don’t Ghostbuster people about it. And if anyone gets this joke, you are amazing.

*4 YEARS LATER* Yeah everyone on this list has personality alright. You actually cannot have no personality. They're not boring because they have no personality, they're boring because they HAVE a BLAND, UNINTERESTING personality. Toya's personality is all about being nice. BORING. You can say Naruto is nice and all to but a lot of people don't consider him boring. Well being "nice" isn't all he has. That's the deciding factor. Heck Guts is pretty nice too, but he has other personality traits, struggles and what not that make him interesting. Tl;dr: These peeps are not boring because they have no personality, they're boring because they have a boring personality.

Ikki wasn't boring due to the fact that even though he knew he was going through Puberty and Hormones, he was a badass once you pissed him off. Ask buddy who forced Stella to strip her clothes off.

Some of these I can guess suffer form being from visual novels which have next to no personality so the player can insert himself, then again that’s the case with anime too just not as extreme. In short they suffer from being much too like the slates they were during the adaptation process.
