Video Information: If you’ve ever watched an air show you can see pilots performing aerobatic performance. They showcase their technical skill and stamina with amazing feats every year in the skies. There are various categories of aerobatic maneuvers you’ll see at such shows. These include horizontal and vertical lines, loops, rolls, spins, stall turns and many more. Aerial performers combine these moves in complex, choreographed sequences. Of course supermaneuverable aircraft can do a lot of these stunts. Thrust-vectoring and Thrust-to-weight ratio plays an important role for these incredible maneuvers. This video presents the 8 incredible types of maneuvers.
They are:
Kulbit maneuver
Cobra maneuvers or Pugachev Cobra
Herbst manoeuvre
Falling leaf maneuver
Kvochur bell maneuver
Flat spin maneuver
Cuban 8 maneuver
Tailslide maneuver

Not really. The move had been known for decades before he made it famous at Le Bourget in 1989. It was only named after him because he put it in the minds of the public. The actual credit for the manoeuvre belongs to Swedish pilots who flew the Saab 35 Draken.

I had a friend with a Pitts S2-B and he took me up a few times. It's just awe-inspiring that those aerobatic planes- the "unlimited class" and their pilots can maintain spatial orientation while flipping all around, and the planes which can take the forces. THEN, we have these.... BILLION DOLLAR jet fighters doing nearly the same thing! I'm so amazed at this. It's like watching an R/C plane flip and turn, but it's a military jet fighter, not just a stunt plane (meaning, a plane that has a mission so far beyond a "circus act")!

I can see the value in such manoeuvres in avoiding a missile but I wonder about them in a dog fight. The best fighter pilots always speak of "energy". Coming out of a Cobra you would have zero energy and therefore be vulnerable to a second attack.
@AneriGS
@AneriGS Жыл бұрын
@@billthomas635 if you have zero energy you can't properly avoid a missile, and that doesn't help the fact that the people that use these planes will be fighting those with missiles that lock on before the pilot can see the target In a dogfight this would be great with the incredibly tight turning radius and all, but that probably won't happen often

Depends where you are and what you’re watching. I see American planes at air shows do these same maneuvers. Chicago air and water show for years is one example. And then driving through the state of Nebraska near an Air Force base seen two jets flying around out there back in 2009 doing maneuvers I didn’t even think were possible with a plane. Just happen to be at right place at right time. Pulled over and watched it for half hour. Insane stuff. Too cool. The way they fly is cool, but I really dig the sounds. Nothing like the sound of jets flying around to wake you up. Especially when they are coming right at you and you don’t hear anything but silence until they are damn near past you.

3:08 "Totally unrecoverable..." Pilot recovers and flies away
@kipweit9634
@kipweit9634 Жыл бұрын
I might be wrong but my explanation is that that plane was able to recover from it because it is an F-22 that uses thrust vectoring which allows it to push its nose downwards without the need for control surfaces, and I think the main reason is that this plane can produce an impressive amount of thrust which is really helpful to get out of a flat spin, other aircraft that do not have these abilities might not recover because the forces acting on the airplane are in equilibrium, while the engine and the control surfaces are completely ineffective. You can see in this video " kzfaq.info/get/bejne/nc6ohMmc083Je30.html " an f-14 that lacks any thrust vectoring capability and has relatively weak engines totally failing to recover and the pilot ejecting ultimately.

@@kipweit9634 it just depends on the aircraft like you said also if i'm not mistaken the f22 isn't in a flat spin but is doing a maneuver called a falling leaf
@zombieregime
@zombieregime Жыл бұрын
@@kipweit9634 Exiting a flat spin is part of every pilots flight training, not just fighter pilots. IIRC, the procedure is to apply full rudder against the direction of the spin and push the stick/yoke forward and to the side opposed the rudder. As I understand it, this basically 'cups' the airflow over the airframe resisting the rotation, and pushing the nose down. Hopefully there is enough altitude left to fully reestablish airflow over the wings and flight surfaces to stabilize the aircraft afterwards. Some aircraft can fall into flat spins easily(often its the loadout and weight distribution that affects how easily an aircraft can find itself heading towards a flat spin), many are perfectly recoverable(with enough altitude of course, sometimes there just isn't enough left and if you enter a flat spin too close to the ground its simply time to punch out), some airframes are even designed with aerodynamics that will 'auto-recover' into a nose downward angle from flat-spin-like airflow over the airframe. For sure, regardless of the aircraft a flat spin state certainly to be avoided. But 'totally unrecoverable'?! HA! The writers didnt even bother googling the recoverability from a flat spin before pushing the script to the VO booth.....Which really brings into question how well they research the rest of their content, or are the people in charge the type that just speak with authority and knowledge from pulpits built of ignorance and assumption.... ya know, like Inforgraphics does.

There are only 5 fighters currently in service capable of pulling of such meneouver succesfuly J-20, F-22, Su-30M, S-35S and Su-57. Yeah other aircraft might be abble to recover for a flat spin with enough altitude but only those 5 fighters can use a flat spin like maneouver in combat intentionally.

@@JCCOOLDOWN Sorry, but so far F35 / 22 show only uselessness and cut the dough on government orders. I won’t say “but our planes are better in every way”, but I will note that when yours are advertised as another Lamborghini, ours simply work effectively. The new aircraft are comparable, and the old ones are being actively updated to modern standards (the most obvious example of the MiG 31 was the best interceptor (and still is), it also became a reconnaissance aircraft with a bunch of electronics and very serious arguments in armament) (and yes, the MiG seems to want to make a MiG 41, but when it will be and how much it will be a starship is not clear) By the way, I note that relatively recently the United States also wanted to adjust old fighters to modern standards, instead of completely replacing them with the 5th generation.

The F-22 has vertical differential thrust vectoring allowing for some crazy levels of roll authority even in flat spin situations, but newer jets are able to change the geometry of there outlets in a non-uniform fashion allowing them to point thrust any direction they want (to a few tens of degrees). That thrust vector management has lead to some insanely nimble jets capable of maneuvers that to any rational mind would be impossible. Its staggeringly impressive what modern high performance aircraft can achieve!

Да и в целом получается 2 лучшие авиашколы Российская и Американская, европейцы и проичие, монголоиды с негроидами так показать миру ничего впечатляющего и не могут сейчас.

Little correction: the tailslide and Kvochur’s bell are the same thing. The thing you thought was the bell is something completely different, the reason the bell got its name is because if the plane was flying perpendicular to you, it looks like half of a bell.

I don’t think F-22 pilots are allowed to pull some of these extreme maneuvers, although the plane itself can probably no doubt do all of them. Now the Russian pilots apparently are allowed to do whatever they want without any repercussions. Those guys are insane. They can perform aerial stunts that defy belief. Now if you’re a pilot in a American fighter jet and you’re superiors catch you doing crazy stuff like that, well you could lose your privilege to fly permanently, or put them in the Hack

Basically, in modern day if you and an enemy got into a dogfight- god forbid a guns only fight- both of you have fucked up massively multiple times Dogfighting theory has been the same basics since ww1, keep your speed, that's it. Speed allows you to dodge, stay out of your enemy's nose and use the vertical, so you can lose speed climbing, then gain it back falling The issue with these manouvers is that they can only be used in the context that you need to lose speed because an enemy behind you (very, very bad)didn't manage their distance well so you try to cause him to overshoot, that is, you go so slow that they can't slow down and fly in front of you And even then these manouvers kill your speed, by the time you recover you lost so much position and now the enemy knows what you might try pulling, if they are expecting that they will have a great big target basically being still

The scariest thing I've ever seen was an F4 doing a Dutch roll. It was impromptu, at lunchtime over RAAF base Amberley, Aus. A mate and I were walking from the mess and this aircraft was coming straight at us. It appeared to be wallowing, at low speed, it was nose high, nose low in a corkscrewing motion that would make you sea sick. I was convinced it was coming down - right on me. He then did another low speed dirty pass, raised the hook and gear and went vertical punching a hole in the cloud. The third was a high speed pass where he touched mach 1 and broke windows in the Adjutant's office and the service station outside the gate. That was 50 years ago, I have never seen video of anything like this and only recently learnt what it was called. I believe the pilot flew F4s in 'Nam so must have been on secondment to the USAF or may have been USAF here. I was a lowly mechanic, not privy to such matters.

IIRC, the F4 had a dry weight of 29,500lbs. The J-79 engine has a max thrust of 18,000lbs. The F4 Phantom has two J-79 engines totaling 36,000lbs at full reheat. A decommissioned, civilian owned F4 was sitting at the hold short line at a fly in airshow waiting for clearance. Tower, apparently unaware it was an F4 waiting at the line and not yet another C-172, was taking their sweet time and making the F4 wait for a string of slow planes on approach. After repeated calls requesting clearance, the tower fed up finally replied with, 'Look buddy, if you can get to 3000' by the middle of the runway, you can have it." Immediately the F4 pilot radios back, "Roger. Taking runway." Suddenly, before tower could realize their mistake, the air was filled with the roar of twin J-79s spooling up to full burner. As the F4 screamed down the first half of the runway, the pilot lifted off his gear, pulled them up, and yanked the stick back, seeming to explode off the ground in a vertical climb, leveling out at 3000'. F4 pilot, "Clear of runway." after a moment, with laughter heard in the background, tower sheepishly responded, "......Roger. Frequency change to departure approved." Moral of the story, dont give pilots ultimatums they can achieve. The McDonnell Douglas F4 Phantom II. Proof bricks can fly, with enough thrust.
