We've put back a lot of rice. I've started repacking my bulk rice into 1lb bags, vacuumed sealed, then storing in buckets. They'll be easier to share. Thanks AG REMEMBER Y'ALL TO PRAY, PLAN, PREP

@Alaska Granny. If your sugar ever gets hard, just take out a metal grater and grate it. Good as new!!! Just a trick from the humid South

Great video! I'd like to add that those Gamma lids are very strong! I bought a set a couple of years ago. They are not cheap. I had a hard time putting the ring on the bucket, but once they're on there--they're ON THERE! My thought was I would put basics in the buckets with Gamma lids--wheat berries, sugar, rice, beans, oats, flour--and keep a scoop (from $Tree) in each one. Easy enough to get what I need and close it up again. When it runs out, I'll empty another bucket inside of the empty one. The other great thing about Gamma lids is they're made in my home state of Ohio! I thought they were worth it.

Great long-term storage tips! 🤠 "Most" of my dry good storage (beans, rice, oats, pasta, etc.) is vacuum sealed in canning jars using a rechargeable battery-powered canning jar vacuum sealer.

Thank you AG. You inspire us all. Last week I bought more rice, beans and 24 packets pasta. It is in the freezer. Will take it out and then prepare it all. Excellent hints, thank you always!

Again, your basic advice is excellent and needed by more and more people every day. Many more people are finally seeing what is going on, or at least listening to the governments around the world who are telling their people to prepare, for at least 3 days, (which is ridiculously little time.). The U.S. government, (FEMA and the American Red Cross team-up), has upped OUR recommended preparedness for two weeks; I wish they would make it longer and I wish they would publicize it more. So far, I have only seen Germany tell their people to prepare long-term for themselves and others; have you seen the new guidelines? Scary stuff for their people, but we have known that we can do our best, and leave the rest to God.

Don't trust anything that Fema or Govt tells you. Fema can come in to take your supplies if needed , for the "common good" of community. Store for long term. I would do more if I had a bigger home.

If the government told everyone to prep for longer, we would have a run on the stores and the food supply would be depleted. My opinion!

If you’ve ALREADY vacuum sealed your rice, beans, flour, etc - you’ve taken most of the air/ oxygen out so weevils can’t live or hatch. Of course do your own research, but that’s my understanding.

I recently grabbed a bag of popping corn which will get repacked for long term storage. I have a variety of other grains and beans. when I repack salts and sugars I put moisture absorbers in there to keep them dry inside the containers

There are two things I've been meaning to tell you: I found out that we need to open the packets of ramen noodles and remove the seasoning packets and then re-package the noodles without them because we had some stored for quite awhile, and the noodles 'would' have been good, but the rancid seasonings made them smell bad. I tossed them. I always throw the packets away anyway, so from now on, I'll just do that right off the bat! I thought you'd like to know. I never dreamed it would be a problem!

I started vacuuming sealing my rice and beans years ago. At the time I hadn't heard of having to put them in the freezer first. Will I have to remove all of them and and start all over again" Also my flour etc.

Vacuum sealing removes air/ oxygen, so weevils can’t live or hatch. Your rice and beans are most likely fine. Please research this before undoing all your hard work. Best wishes! 🙏❤️

I never freeze first. Too dangerous getting all that moisture in the food, since I live in an EXTREMELY HUMID place. I vacuum seal in jars OR vacuum with oxygen absorbers in mylar bags. Never had any problem. The eggs cannot hatch without oxygen.

A good idea is to store it in jars with the amount needed per meal. A large family will use a big jar, A smaller family would use a smaller jar. It's perfect to make meals easier
