Original Top Gun was released in 1986 and I am 37 years old and big fan of the original to but I agree I felt the sequel was better and saw it in theaters with my wife on a date and we hadn’t been to a movie in a few years prior due lack of quality of movies, kids being so little at the time and Covid.

It's impressive how they flipped the script of the first movie. It's so well done. I don't know about the Tomcat that just happens to be in the hanger near where they bailed...I know they allude to it earlier in the film.

Nah It's the sequel is a totally unoriginal, unimaginative cash grab of a film. if you've watched a handful of movies in the past 10 years you could have easily pieced this film together ... even down to them playing a sport on the beach

You got that right. Captain Greg Woolridge. Served with him twice. Twice commanded the Blue Angels (1990 - 1992, 1996), second time was asked back after the current CO was relieved following two mishaps. He was already at the end of his career then. Then he came back to China Lake with VX-9 to fly FA-18E/F for Fleet Operational Evaluation in 1999, this was my last time working with him. One of the greatest, friendliest people I worked with in the Navy in my 30 years and one of the best seat of the pants tailhook pilots I witnessed during my career. I always believed he skirted promotion to the Admiral ranks because he wanted to fly. I think his call sign was "Boss" but don't hold me to that.

i think the issue is maverick is so highly decorated and distinguished based on what the admiral is saying that in addition to age it would make no sense for maverick not to have been promoted to flag rank at the bare minimum a 1 star admiral. flying is a young mans game. maverick could've still been pretty useful as a carrier task force commander or something.

The more promotions he gets, the sooner he is ousted from the cockpit, he does not get to pilot a plane anymore.

Nothing wrong per se, but he’s highly decorated and had an outstanding career. Given not only the length of his service but his accomplishments in those years, he should be higher ranking.

Most captains are 27 years old thru mid 30s.. not almost 50 like maverick here lol

@@208flatheads3 what are you on about captain is a senior Rank and are usually in command of ships or land bases most of them are in the fourties to 50s even maverick instructor in the previous film was a commander 1 rank less than captain and was at least in his fifties or a 27 year old would be a lieutenant commander which is equivalent to major at most

I get out of the military service as a second corporal and I’m not ashamed 😊
