This video is part of a complete audio upgrade in a 2010-2016 Toyota 4Runner. In this video SERIES we are adding our plug and play amplifiers to the stock Toyota head unit (stereo), upgrading the front and rear door speakers and adding a dual 10” downfire ported subwoofer box.
In this video we will show you how to install component speakers / tweeters in the front doors and dashboard of your Toyota 4Runner.
We will be mounting the plug and play amps under the driver side seat. Using our plug and play harnesses along with our plug and play amplifiers, we will take this stock vehicle system and boost the power from 18 watts to 70 watts RMS to each speaker. In addition, we will be adding a downfire subwoofer box loaded with two 10” subwoofers.

Excelent explanation on the wiring issue. This applies also to Highlander wiring issue of the front speakers.

Question. If the car already has component setup with woofer and tweeter, isnt it already setup to handle the different signals? I figured if I wanted to replace them its just plug and play without any additional components. Thx

What is the factory speaker wire AWG? What current/wattage would you suppose it can handle?

When you showed how to wire the tweeter harness adapter to the crossover, you had two channels (tweeter - & +) unused on the crossover. Are you supposed to use those channels to connect directly to the tweeter? I’m assuming so, because that makes logical sense but, without the clarification it left me a bit confused.

Where did you guys pull the wire from the door speakers to wire into the crossover? All I saw was a connection into the original adapter but I don’t understand how you routed the wire from the door speaker to connect it! Help please!

I love how he talked about making sure the wire on the speaker faces down, then he spins the speaker on the bracket and the wiring is facing up. Lol

so if im understanding this correctly. if i were to be installing a 2 channel amp. with your component set for the front doors. you dont even have to run wire through the door jam . it would just go to the tweeter and from there to the door speaker (front doors)

fyi, that white factory connector at the top comes out with a little work with a screw driver, avoiding running the speaker wire around through the plastic.

What if you don’t have the plug n play? Can’t you just cut your stock tweeter wires and extend them by adding more wires and running it that way to your crossovers and speakers?

is there a way to install the tweeter on the sail panel with this same kit ?
@tacotunes
@tacotunes 7 жыл бұрын
Sail panels won't support tweeters, there is not much room on the stock panels.

I think the sail panel may be a bit too small to hold the tweeter.

I’ve got a 5 channel on my 2010 4Runner. I can’t get sound outta my rear doors but the back hatch has sound. Do I need a splitter somewhere to get the signal to the those speakers?!
@tacotunes

the rear doors and hatch/cargo are tied into each other. i would check the wiring, and OHM as well on each set to make sure your presenting your amp with the correct impendence

Its easy to have swapped out the plastic 10mm screw mounts for metal ones, I also would have put sound dampening on the door skin, so easy to do and whybypu cut that corner I do not know. Overall I think you did a very minimal job of installing this at best.

Y’all spent the entire video explaining basic crossover wiring then in the end, added a completely unexplained step of splicing tweeters. (“B splices”, “tweeter jumper”) Because these speakers are wired in parallel and we are using existing factory connectors I’d say this is the most important and confusing step and y’all glossed right over it. Can you please clarify?

I think it helps to think of the signal flow in terms of inputs and outputs. This is why there are 4 wires (2 positive and 2 negatives) going to the tweeter and in the adapter he is using. So with the stock setup the speakers are running in parallel, you have one positive running into the tweeter (input) and the other positive connected to the tweeter is actually sending power to the mid range speaker. It is the “output”. So power is being sent from the amp, to the tweeter, and then from the tweeter to the mid range speaker. In connecting the adapter, the goal is to replace the tweeter in the signal flow with the crossover. So the positive from the amp runs straight into the crossover instead of the tweeter. The crossover then sends the signal to the separate speakers. This is why you connect the “number 3 wire” to the crossover, because it’s not sending power to the crossover, rather it’s sending power from the crossover to the mid range speaker (like the tweeter did originally). And then the tweeter would be connected without the adapter he is using. It would just be a positive and negative from the tweeter running straight to the last connections available on the crossover. So the signal flow will go as follows (I’m using the numbers he uses for each wire) 1&3 are from the amp straight into the crossover. 2&4 would then send power from the crossover to the mid range speakers. And then the last 2 connections on the crossover would be connected to the tweeter. Essentially by the end the speakers won’t be running parallel anymore. Meaning if you disconnect the mid range from the crossover the tweeter will still work and vise versa. I hope this makes sense. And I hope I answered the question you were asking.lol. Of course you posted this forever ago so you may have it figured out. If so hopefully this clears things up for people that have the same question. And hopefully I’m not way off the mark here. But that seems to be how he is running it.
