Toyota 4Runner How to remove the stock stereo head unit radio

This video is part of a complete audio upgrade in a 2014 Toyota 4Runner. In this video series we are adding our plug and play amplifiers to the stock Toyota head unit (stereo), upgrading the front and rear door speakers and adding a dual 10” downfire ported subwoofer box.
In this video we will show you how to remove the stock head unit so we can install the plug and play harness that will allow you to add amplifiers to your stock head unit.. We will be mounting the plug and play amps under the driver side seat. Using our plug and play harnesses along with our plug and play amplifiers, we will take this stock vehicle system and boost the power from 18 watts to 70 watts RMS to each speaker. In addition, we will be adding a downfire subwoofer box loaded with two 10” subwoofers.

Thanks for this! A friend broke her touchscreen and Toyota wanted $5000 for a new radio. I found a new touchscreen for $130, and with this video and another (that showed how to disassemble the radio), I did the whole job in under two hours.

Here’s the video and screen supplier I used. I just googled replace touchscreen toyota 4runner. If you aren’t comfortable taking the radio apart, there were also a couple places that would replace it for you for maybe $300 if you ship them the radio. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/fbGDiJSZ2d_HqJs.html

The only thing you guys are missing is sound dampening lol. which is what im doing on mine. the vids are very good and helpful TYVM

Glad to see it's simple! Just recently bought a '14 4runner. Do you know of any head units that can utilize all of the stock controls and buttons? Or that replaces the ones it can't use? - I'd love to add Android auto to mine.

Removing all the wire harness tabs does that erase any codes that are originally installed through manufacturer or programs.

Do you know if the trim around the radio head unit itself is removable from the head unit or is the head unit and trim that comes out together all one piece?

I'm also wondering this :D I want to repaint it so it's not shining in my face :D I'm trying to find out, but I'm coming up short. Worst yet, I have a 2020 which is different. If you have a 2019 or earlier, you could at least get an overlay piece if you don't want to take it all apart. There are no overlay pieces for 2020 and newer yet.
