In today’s video I take you step-by-step on the repair of a very common problem with the front Struts/springs on:
* 2014 Toyota FJ Cruisers (Ultimate Edition )
* 2015-2018 Toyota 4Runner TRD PRO
If intrested in all 4 corners, below i’m providing all the part numbers.
- TRD / Bilstein Suspension kit for the Toyota FJ CRUISER TRD ULTIMATE/TRAIL TEAM SUSPENSION KIT

2 Bilstein front shocks (6112's) -
With 2 red front coil springs • 14"x3"x600lbs
(1" taller than stock - WHICH LEVELS IT OUT)

Suspension components were fully torqued on the ground with the vehicles weight.

Believe it or not I have also seen the actual strut assembly fail/snap.

This is a great thing to let people know about, Paul. It's really important. Because my shocks were starting to go, the bushings were getting ugly and I was installing a bumper and winch, I replaced the ones on my 2016 4Runner TRD Pro before they completely failed with Elka 2.5 adjustable shocks and Eibach springs. Problem solved and it was a definite improvement. Thanks for showing how it's done.

You’re very welcome!! (Seems that some other viewers disagree) I don’t think people understand that at the end of the day I shot that video while working because I believe that the information was extremely valuable nonetheless. How am I spouse to do a completely detailed video of such while still making a living. This was most definitely a lesson learned for next time.

I have a 2021 4runner TRD off road and I'm wanting to upgrade the shocks. Would you recommend the oem TRD Fox shocks that come on the off road pro like you put on your 4runner or would you recommend bilstein shocks?

Either are good. But on the Fox Racing make sure you get the latest and greatest (which are updated) But at the end Bilstein puts out a superior product. 😅

Can you retro fit the current TRD Fox Shock version to these model years? Like the Front Right Spring and Shock PTR61-34190-RF? Would going that route be an upgrade?

2019 is when they switched to the Fox setup.

i bet u tighten the shock lower bushing when it is on the hoist. either a rookie mistake or a mechanic who doesn't give a shit.. u r winding up that bushing at curb position

@@VikingsGarage No sir. That lower bushing, if u tighten it at full rebound position then when the wheel goes on the ground what happens? The rubber wants to go back to the original tightened position, does that make sense? Which then introduces unwanted bushing effect. I have been working as a suspension engineer in one of big 3 company over a decade and this has been a big challenge during assembly process. U always want to tighten bushings at curb position. This includes control arms as well....
