A lot of the old line from Cookstown through Moneymore, Magherafelt, Castledawson, Toome, and Randalstown is still visible, including most of the old station buildings. Highlights of this route include the two station buildings in Cookstown and the magnificent Randalstown viaduct.

I’ve often delivered Hunky Dorys crisps to Kearney’s Costcutter shop right beside Randalstown station. I’ve often left the lorry to have a nosey at the building. Nice to see it’s survived. The walkway along the top of the viaduct is worth visiting!

Nice video. I was actually driving through Moneymore this week and spied that old building and thought "that has to be an old station".

The new footbridge in Randalstown was constructed in 1998 by a Tandragee firm. It was part of a project undertaken by the community development group Randalstown Arches. The footpath follows the line of the railway from near the bottom of the Station Road for about a third of a mile coming out on New Street. A nice walk. You can add on the riverside path which runs up the west bank from the road bridge to the weir.

I'm fairly sure the building you describe as "not very pretty" in the middle of Toome main street was once a public toilet. There remains a still-operational public toilet on the other side of the street which is similarly easy on the eye.

There was a station at Drumsough. You can see the old sign from the exiting Antrim line.

Was that the old Cookstown Junction station? I forgot to mention it…

@@eamonnca1 Yes it was also known as that. Hey you do a great job with this. Although it's not feasible to rebulld these lines exactly the way they were you can see there is green space nearby through which the line could go.

People built in the Old Line because UTA sold plots intention of making it impossible to restore the railway. Its why literally there are huge chunks of cuttings then a seemingly random house.

What kind of psychopath has the capacity to even consider ripping up a railway? The mind boggles - clearly the plans and actions of someone who once lost a Teddy bear on a train.

The Toome bridge was rotten and dangerous. Think it was merely a safety concern
