Dust Extraction... M-Class, H-Class, HEPA, What Is The Difference and What Do I Need To Use??

I've spent three days thumbing through legislations and acts to source the most up-to-date and relevant info around this 'rabbit hole' of a topic and I believe this video will help clear the confusion... a little at least.
I will include some links below to the most relevant info regarding dust extraction, silica dust and airborne contaminants. Please refer to these documents and ask us questions if you are still unsure of what equipment you should be using, we will do our very best to answer each one or direct you to the right information.

Good mate , you explained pretty well, Few days ago I got a contract to chase in house for electrical conduit and wiring , that was a complete brick house. You saved me from slica dust, I quit that fucking contract to hear and watch this video, I went to buy H class vacuum and it was more expensive than I would earn from this contract.

Good vid, do you have any videos on actually using the Husqvarna H-class? Would be good to see it in action and the location of the Hepa filters, etc.

If the issue is filtration, why isn't upgrading the filter enough to make the vac perform better? Festool L and M class use the same bags and same filter cartridges. The only difference is the flow alarm on the M class. But in essence, if used correctly, the L class is not letting any more dust out the exhaust than the M class - because, darn-it, it has the same filter! So the whole thing seems like a scam.

M class in the Uk, is like HEPA filter in America.

@@spilleradam Unfortunately its not. HEPA is nice to have but is not equivalent to real ratings of L/M/H classes. In North America our legislators are way behind the health 8 ball, if they'd cared about us they would have L/M/H in in place like Europe long time ago. In North America, you will fined that most "decent" vacuums are only L class at best. And that is with or without HEPA!! It's your health, at least wear a face mask in addition to dust extractor.

@@spilleradam Forgot to add one important point to clear up my other (earlier) comment. European L/M/H class regards the complete machine for dust containment, including filters. In North America, HEPA is a standard applied to the FILTER ONLY, not the rest of vacuum. Yes HEPA is the best filter and if the complete machine is HEPA certified then IMO you really have something better than L/M/H class machines. I think only Festool offers a certificate with HEPA filter as a "HEPA compliant machine". That is something to consider!!!

I have a dry / wet hole drill machine with dry suction or water cooling. When using dry, is M class ok or do i need H class., Cause i need extraction and thru thé suction from thé vacuümcleaner thé hole drill gets aircooled also. Suggestions?( Im not a contractor live in thé EU, but have nose bleeds all day due to dust and fumes...

Who makes these certifications? I’ve tried to google for answers, and can’t find anything. Is it the companies themselves, or some independent body? I’m eyeballing a few l-class models for a hobby project, Makita, Metabo, Nilfisk, can’t afford m-class, but I guess l-class is better than nothing. But their specs and manuals never say anything about who actually rated their devices as l-class, so how can I know their products really are l-class and not just a regular house vac that someone put an l-class sticker on?
