Hey everyone and welcome back to more Railroads Online! Today we are testing the new physics update with a load of heavy iron from the smelter! According to the new physics update we should be able to run this load with a theoretical tolerance so today ‪@DapperEcho‬ and I are going to try and see if the math works out!

Glad to see you made good use of the spreadsheet :) additionally, in talks with Keume, we have been considering adding a readout to the UI of how many pounds (or kg, toggleable as a menu setting) of train the locomotive can pull on it's current gradient with the totally attached weight behind, so without the spreadsheet you can know if things will work. Curious what folks think :) cheers, Hyce/Mark

I agree. I'm currently in the process of doing this with the few industries I've hit so far. I'm going to make a direct run from the logging camp to the sawmill (currently I have some funky loop from depot to logging to sawmill, then back to depot without switching) and that direct branch will hit a small interchange at sawmill with a loading track, a passing siding, and a few stub end sidings to store loaded cars or empties ahead of time. Same with logging camp, going to have a couple of 8 car sidings for the steak cars, a passing siding, and maybe link the two loading tracks back up to a stub end lead. Figuring once the logs are unloaded, I'll bring them back, load them back up, and stash them in the sidings until they're needed again. Sawmill will have loads staged directly for bringing down to the smelter for storage before heading up to the Iron mine. I'll bring cordwood down to the smelter with the other loaded cars just to maximize the downhill trip in what will probably be a 15 car consist. Dedicated storage for empty cordwood cars to be hauled back up.

Well done guys. I like the fact that one should/could plan the trips now. And now the caboose makes more sense, because if I understood Hyce correctly in the last vid, one should care about breaking the train downhills. This also adds to the multiplayer experience. One is the conveyor of the engine and another is the breaking guy at the back. And both have to work together.

I tried out the physics update the other day. My engine if choice was the Mogul pulling 10 full hopper cars with Iron Ore, plus a caboose. One of my bridges is on a 2 percent grade and I needed to get Betsy to push the Mogul the last little bit over the bridge. Empty the Mogul can handle it easily. the new physics make everything stand on it's own regarding what they were originally designed to do IRL. the Class 70 2-8-0 Consolidation was IRL the strongest early steam loco in use with 8 Driving wheels to grip the track. not fast, but then it wasn't meant to fly down the rails like the 4-4-0. it was built to move heavy trains with a sure footed grip. even with the math now accurately representing loads vs Grades. big trains are still fully doable by Doubleheading and combining the pulling power of two loco's into one train. guess you'll be doing some track realignment to ease some of the tight spots and actively look for areas to reduce Grades which is precisely what the Real Railroad Co's did. the eternal search for the best route to pull the most per train = bigger profits!
