What I learned in this episode: 1) Joey gets triggered over okonomiyaki. 2) Garnt doesn't like sauces. 3) Connor gets triggered over hamburgers. 4) They all love tsukemen.

As someone who has actually been through survival courses and has had to pet rabbits (to calm them down) before legitimately clubbing them to death, I 100% understand where Garnt's distaste is coming from on the whole Abalone cooked alive situation. It's about the suffering, it's legit burning to death and trying to escape in front of you. Who the hell wants to see a creature's last death struggle while they're trying to have dinner?

@MonkeBrain07
@MonkeBrain07 Жыл бұрын
@@KlutzyNinjaKitty Okay, as a food science major, I'm gonna have to correct that real quick. It's not adrenaline. It's the lactic acid in the muscle. Lactic acid is that thing that makes you feel sore after a gym session. It makes meat tougher, less juicy, and taste quite a bit worse. Stress and struggle is the primary cause of this shit. And that's why you have to make sure the animal is calm when you kill them. And the murder needs to be done quick.

The Hawaiian dish you were looking for is called spam musubi. :) It's basically a spam nigiri. You can get it everywhere in the islands! And one of the regional McDonald's breakfasts is spam, eggs & rice. There's also a spam themed festival. Basically, Hawaii has a love affair with spam and has adopted it as a local food - though technically most foods people think of as Hawaiian are actually from other places. Macadamia nuts are Australian, pineapples are South American, etc. Since Hawaii is pretty far out into the ocean, there aren't a lot of truly native plants. Most plants got transported in from elsewhere.

Yes! The quality of meat in a McDonalds cheeseburger doesn’t matter because the rest of the items in said cheeseburger takes the focus away from the meat. The whole item is still enjoyable. It’s also why you slather low-quality cuts in something tastier like in a beef tips & gravy style dish. If I’m just having a slab of steak the focus is on the meat. So if that meat is shit quality (or if it’s cooked improperly) then it’s just shit. Though, I do have to agree with Joey. Steak is mid.

Cooking it alive for me would be like eating a cow while it is still alive. It doesn't need to suffer, no more than a person should suffer (and there's been cases of doctors keeping patients who were begging for death alive so they can be studied - look up Hisashi Ouchi as an example). There's a line to be drawn about making anything suffer verses a quick death. I love beef, pork, chicken and various seafoods, and hope whatever ends up on my plate has been ended humanely.

I've noticed from when you guys and Chris talking about prices of eating out in Japan, it's way more affordable than in the US for instance, eating out here is like 2x the cost of cooking at home, even cooking stuff that's pretty good quality. Like a pack of 4x 10oz steaks at the grocery store is $25-$45 depending on the cut of meat, a giant bag of broccoli is like $2/pound and a giant sack of potatoes is like $1-2/pound and at a restaurant a steak dinner with the sides is going to be $20-40 for one person and then you have to tip 15-20% of the bill on top. Even eating out at a fast food restaurant for a meal here is going to cost you like $7-12/person depending on where you go and how much you eat and for the most part they're not that great. For a midtier restaurant meal it's going to be $15-20/person, that's SO expensive when you can cook a great meal for your whole family for $20.

I just wanted to express how refreshing and entertaining this podcast is. When I need a break from life this podcast takes me away. There's something about the synergy of conversations with an injection of true expression between friends that makes me step back and feel that good-hearted social interaction I lack. Its so nice to hear more "light-hearted" (not saying they don't talk seriously about certain topics) discussions that really let me unwind from my own life. Not to look obsessively dependent on these videos, but these guys give that positive push when I get hopeless and depressed with my inadequate self. Im and older teen and I feel bleak af with no aim and at times I cannot find the emotions to do anything. This podcast has given me so much in terms of unwinding down support. This might sound pathetic, but watching this podcast lets me find enjoyment and with that gift of enjoyment I keep living. Their podcast is not the only thing that helps me, but they do contribute a good portion. This podcast is a little refreshment with attitude that really hits different. I hope everybody will find more little things they can think deeply or feel deeply about to make a more balanced life. Thank you for your time if you've read through my jumbled mess of a comment and I hope your day goes well.

1:08:29 having been in a different country & eating what i assumed was a pasta dish with funny tasting ham, then discovering it was in fact salmon, i must agree with Connor's take on Salmon as the pork of the sea.

I have to agree with Garnt on the lobster part: making sure the animal doesn't suffer before dying is not a vegan idea.

Yeah it was different thing between eating something that get killed before and eating somethhing that you cook alive. Sadly garnet don't bring comparison like "did you will eat chicken that you Burner alive in front of you or the one that you killed before and then cook it"

Yeah, I just freeze my lobsters before cooking. Death by cold is a way nicer death than boiling. I don't care if the noise is from steam escaping from the shell. I don't want my food to be tortured.

I'm absolutely on Garnt's side about the killing thing. Cows are usually killed by a single, swift impact that flips them from "alive" to "dead" before they can register the damage. You don't boil the cow alive. Garnt mentioned the lobster being killed with a swift knife to the spine... Versus being set, alive, on the grill, to burn. There's ABSOFUCKINGLUTELY a difference between a single swift strike that kills you and getting stabbed to death over the course of an hour or slowly cooked alive over extended time.

Also the "Lobsters cant feel pain" argument is not proven or disproven. We dont know since their nervous system isnt like ours so i would say we should give them the benefit of the doubt and so do countrys like Switzerland which banned boiling or grilling lobsters alive.If i wanna eat seafood i dont need to watch it die slowly in frot of me. They can show me the alive lobster and afterwards kill it fast.
