Sunrise Express (寝台特急サンライズ出雲瀬戸), a Japanese overnight train (夜行列車), is the only sleeper train that operates everyday in Japan. :) The train consists of 14 cars, they are called Sunrise Izumo (サンライズ出雲) or Sunrise Seto (サンライズ瀬戸) depending on the car number. Today I tried the cheapest seat called “Nobi Nobi seat (ノビノビ座席)” and traveled from Osaka Station to Tokyo Station for the first time. It’s a unique and clean reserved seat that you can lie down on. If you have a JR pass (All-you-can-ride ticket only for foreign travelers), you can take the Nobi Nobi seat without any additional charge, however you need to go to the ticket office and reserve a seat beforehand. This is what it was actually like! 行ってみたらホントはこんなトコだった! 【Sunrise Express 🇯🇵 サンライズ出雲編】 * There was a guy like Mr Bean * ミスタービーンみたいなおじさんがいる * When I turned off the lights, the night view from the train window looked even more beautiful. * ライトを消すと車窓からの夜景がより一層綺麗に見える * Why is there a pillowcase but no pillow itself? * 枕カバーはあるのに枕自体はないのはなぜ? * Sunrise Izumo's Nobi Nobi seats, restrooms and shower rooms are really clean * サンライズ瀬戸・出雲のノビノビ座席、トイレ、シャワールームはめちゃ清潔 * The first person to use the shower room can use the shower in the cleanest condition after cleaning. However, some of his or her precious 6-minute time limit is spent on the time it takes for water to turn into hot water. * シャワー室を最初に使う人は、清掃後の一番綺麗な状態のシャワーを使うことができるが、貴重な6分間の制限時間の一部が水がお湯に変わるまでの時間に割かれてしまう * I chose to name this phenomenon "the first shower room dilemma" * この現象を勝手に「最初のシャワーのジレンマ」と呼ぶことにする * I was about to die from the strong cleaning wind in the shower room * シャワー室の強すぎる洗浄風で死にかける * Overnight trip on sleeper train is so satisfying * 寝台特急での旅行は満足度高し

However, trains in india are cheap af compared to this, like, I travelled the same distance for like ₹120. Not a sleeper, but very affordable. 3rd class sleepers are actually not half bad. The beds are very comfy, and in the South, sanitation is being taken very strictly. The ticket costs arround ₹500, which is 16 times cheaper! And dont badmouth indian railways. Affordability and practicality trumps luxury.

This was REALLY cool. Thank you very much for posting this. I was really impressed at how clean and neat the whole train was, it makes me want to relocate to Japan. Unfortunately, just about ALL public facilities are never that clean here in the USA.

Well if you travel around the country you will see some states are managed better than others. For instance California is trashed everywhere but states like Utah and Wyoming are clean, have no graffiti and are downright relaxing - not to mention they have heated water and paper towels.
